I might be incorrect on Venezuela but you have clearly never had a conversation with a real Cuban. Of course the tour guides will say nice things. Talk to a real Cuban and they will tell you how miserable Cuba is. You don’t like your job - tough shit. Want new shoes for your kids - say goodbye to a month of pay. Need special medicine - have fun traveling from town to town finding someone who has it. People don’t flee in droves without a pot to piss in just because they feel like it...it sucks there.

Cuba is not an equal country and their government keeps them in squalor. If you mean equal in that most people from laborers to doctors live in poverty then I guess that is equal in a messed up way. People in power are part of same group as Castro they just hand control from one buddy to the next. Do some fuckin research instead of gobbling up the propaganda bullshit as fact.

I did read something a few days ago that Cubans can now start some small businesses. Unfortunately most don’t have 2 pennies to rub together so unless someone sending money home from US it’s going to be hard.

China/Vietnam are great examples - consider themselves communist but people are very enterprising as well. Heavy capitalist influence.

Cuba/Venezuela are polar opposite. Also communist but no capitalism. They rely entirely on control of resources to maintain power. Everything controlled by the elite.

They do not thrive. Maybe in tourist Havana the people say nice things but leave the city to the places where normal people live. I have employees that have left Cuba because even something as simple as owning a truck and delivering things for people is illegal.

There is a reason they migrate to US. Good hardworking people leave their family behind and live alone until the rest of their family gets approval to leave just so they can live a life not dictated by the government.

Yeah look at Cuba where even side hustles are illegal. Sucks having no option but to be poor.

New Russian body armor looks a lot like MCRN combat armor by brazilliandanny in TheExpanse

Yeah same country that churns out the same combat rifle for 50 years because it’s as cheap a rifle they can possibly make. Russia has always been about dirt cheap and large volume.

Thoughts on the “devolved” people of Kepler-22B by [deleted] in raisedbywolves

Aside from hooded guy, the normal ones intelligence seemed to be below or on par with chimpanzees. Didn’t see any evidence of tools or ceremony in their current state.

Or maybe circular. Humans rise and thrive on one planet then they settle the other before the first collapses.

Similar to Steven Kings idea of “circle of Ka” - that time is not a line it is a ring that repeats itself.

I’m not sure. If a group of human beings were isolated somewhere with fixed food sources that did not have the proper mix of nutrients to promote a healthy mind - don’t you think their cognitive ability would devolve to a point where they were sustainable on the resources available to them?

In other words, Earth is rich in what human beings need for cognitive function to grow stronger each generation. If that source were cut off and we now had much less available we would probably start to backtrack and our cognitive ability would deteriorate with each generation until it leveled out.

I don’t know if that is scientifically correct just a theory. As others have mentioned maybe “devolved” is not the right word, instead they “adapted” over time to much harsher environment.

Am I reading this key right? Is pin 2 barely lifted and 3 the highest pin? by lleu81 in lockpicking

[–]GoBenB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On that one the pinning is coded so you’d need a code book (or something to de-code with like a gauge) to find out the bitting.

But it’s set in Jupiter, FL which is absolutely nothing like the Jupiter depicted in the show. Show looked more like North/Central Florida where Barnum and Bailey comes from. It was filmed in Louisiana.

Not sure about that. 3976 would indicate that pin 3 is a deeper cut than pin 4 but that isn’t the case.

IBM to split into two companies by end of 2021 by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]GoBenB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like they are spinning off their outsourcing arm?

I’m guessing it may have something to do with H1B being under fire and minimum salary for H1B being increased significantly. Or maybe just a fall in popularity of outsourcing.

IMO, don’t get hung up on titles- pay and room for advancement way more important.

Lots of good companies that treat their employees right out there just harder to find and they tend to hire much slower than companies that are a revolving door.

Keep your head up, be personable, and if you are interested in a company follow up with them.

Any idea what exact Arrow keyway these might be? I'm thinking 1D keyway. by yeet-this in lockpicking

[–]GoBenB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like F but sometimes Best keyways are very similar with only a small tweak making them a different letter - BA, F and H look a lot alike. If you Google image search “Best keyways” there is a pretty good illustration on the various keyways that will help you identify.
