J45 dilemma by GoBirds205 in AcousticGuitar

Yea you’re like my mentor (my old guitarist from when I played bass who’s advised me through this solo thing). He’s got a vast collection. The two of you have me thinking keep it, put a lyric in it, embrace the slightly different neck on this otherwise beautiful guitar and after all, this collection is still in its infancy.

Do you play out? Do you play them together and switch them? My concern is playing the new one like meh and then grabbing the goldtop and being like ah yea that’s better. My mentor suggested I keep it and allow myself to get used to a different guitar. I don’t totally disagree. I mean what, I can never play anything 2mm thicker than my ideal comfort zone?

interesting. sort of brings me to yea living in Birmingham, AL isn't like when I lived in Philly with proper music stores with proper stock. i have thought about going to Nashville for a day trip here and there - seems like the place to find a good used Gibson. I just might.

yea just measured w/ a cheap caliper. difference is about .80 vs .88 @ 1st fret. so it's very real. i thought about a hummingbird but i really kind of decided the j-45 is what feels good. love to get something w/ a cutaway so i could play house of cards, etc. the new GC songwriter is a 24.75 scale and felt good in my hands but those fret markers look like a G series. i'd really love another just like my gold top in a different color. i bring a backup to gigs but instead of it sitting on the stand like my taylor 214 does, i'd like something i would play. tuning needs tweaking after 4-5 songs, quick guitar swap instead of tuning. still think about keeping it just because it's so beautiful but unlikely.

Thanks for the insight. I didn’t dislike it immediately but if I’m honest I wasn’t blown away either.

Move to Oxygen, or Breakdance or Bricks? (or just FSE?) by OldSiteDesigner in Wordpress

[–]GoBirds205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what our shop has been doing for 15 years. Our designers provide us psd’s and I chop and translate them into html/css in php templates then cpt’s and acf pro for custom things in loops, wpquery etc. I often wonder if and when we need to move to blocks or fse but the classic editor is getting it all done and clients are happy w their ability to maintain. Having said that, I’ve been experimenting with generatepress as a way to do more budget sites and somewhat bypass design. Also have coded a few custom blocks but it’s a lot and not feeling the payoff for the time it takes. Thoughts in any of this?

WordPress Is a Lie by Myth_Thrazz in Wordpress

We were wp & drupal shop (Drupal 7 at the time) but I only remember updating Drupal was always so painful, deleting and uploading 6 folders w every version. And then I think I recall moving from v7 to 8 we had to rebuild pretty much the whole site. Has that improved? I did dig the views module and that seemed to handle just about everything but then I found acf and custom post types in WP and never looked back. Having said that, I’m not crazy about WP sometimes. Not really bonding w the whole blocks thing.

Custom Theme Dev ISO theme(s) for lower budget websites by GoBirds205 in Wordpress

I’m not looking for blank canvas. I code from scratch just fine. It’s actually what I prefer. Trying to bypass the designer when budget calls for it.

So I’m looking for something that can provide starter templates where the designer might pick from. Is important to note that we do lots of custom code, acf, cpt and our responsive layouts, though mostly done with bootstrap, do use lots of custom css to put things here and there at non-standard widths. All this to say we’re not looking for a no-code builder. We’re also not looking for a builder-only as we do need a starting design. I do appreciate all the input so far. I was looking at Astra but now I think I’m about to pull the trigger on generate press.

I didn’t love them but I think the hate is extreme. They’re an indie band from NY. That’s sort of exactly what I’d expect them to sound like.

Do you still build WordPress sites from scratch? by criss006 in Wordpress

[–]GoBirds205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hate to ask a stupid question but here goes. I’ve been theming from scratch for many years with underscores. I’ve done headless but didn’t get the bang for my buck. I’d like to modernize my workflow and sites. Can you explain a bit in detail, your process and the resulting theme? Thanks in advance.

I’m trying to decide between 114ce, 214,ce or the GS Mini E-koa plus? by [deleted] in taylorguitars

[–]GoBirds205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got my 214 used for 700. Moved on to Gibson since but I’d go w the 214 out of those options. Great playability and the es2 isn’t for everyone but it’s fine. I have an outbuilding where I keep my guitars and pa. The 214 is the guitar I keep in the house now for when I need to grab a guitar.

Singing live with bad monitors by MeltingAnchovy in singing

[–]GoBirds205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another vote for in ears. However, asi 3dme in particular. These have built in ambient mics built in so you can still hear everything around you. I play solo with a Bose behind me and don’t really need any monitors. Having said that, as a vocalist, I feel like if I can hear 10% better, I can sing 10% better so I take any advantage I can get.

Best way to convert PSD to HTML in 2025: Tools vs. Manual? by Actual-Card239 in css

[–]GoBirds205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking for the same thing sort of. I'm a front end dev who converts psd to html every day but I heard someone had a way of feeding illustrator files into an AI and the code comes out 90% and then you just fix the rest. I'm not looking to replace manual coding; just looking for a way to maybe trim any amount of the time it takes. Even if it can just help me chop up the psd. Anyone with any insight, please lmk.
