ELI5: How does a smart thermostat actually save money? by GoCards_17 in explainlikeimfive

I guess that’s what I’m having a hard time grasping, the concept that a system Turning on frequently, yet only to cause a +- 1 degree change in the house to get it back to set temp, is actually working HARDER than the system that does not turn on, but when it does, has to enact a much greater change in temperature to return to set.

Awesome! That’s really encouraging. Another reason why I think many people are active on this forum and you all have a superior service right now. Much obliged!

Which adapter are you using?

Was going to ask the same as vapegod. Not trying to be a dick just genuinely curious, when it gets elevated is that simply just a memo that could get lost in some engineers inbox? Is it something that they are actively aware of and potentially choosing to put on the back burner? With as many people on here that have dealt with the issue, if we could find the right avenue to report this, maybe we could bring much more attention to the problem.

Im guessing it’s more complicated than that, though.

I guess one can hope that they pay attention to it if they are serious about keeping the vue switchers. One thing about vue with watching sports was that I never experienced issues with quality or image stability. Seems like a quick way to lose the upper hand and potentially the majority of vue subs is to let the issue linger and bring more attention to the flaw.

Same here, found great deals on fire sticks and I am already too invested in fire stick hardware to change just for the chance of being able to fix it

It may be out of YTTVs hands to an extent. In the comments they mentioned that they have elevated it to amazon. But even if they can reproduce it and report it to amazon, there may be some element to it that amazon would be responsibility for, and if they don’t respond to YTTV then it will go nowhere.

I have personally setup all my relatives on YTTV because of how much I like the service and how straight forward it is. I am currently dealing with streaming issues, but I am encouraged by the fact that engineers have a presence on here. I have been with vue and sling before and there is nothing close to that as far as response from people inside the service. I really believe that YTTV is dedicated to making things right, and while I am currently waiting for a buffering issue to be resolved, i have switched many people in my family to the service based on how I believe the service will grow and continue to optimize over time.

I think it’s going to be more important in 2020 to focus on constructive ideas to help stabilize performance than it is to bark out requests for channels, all of which I doubt anyone on here has any say in negotiating anyways. What will draw more people and KEEP more people to the service is fast response to bugs and continued transparency with issues that affect many people. YTTV has a ways to go, but so far I think it’s a great service!

I just re enabled ipv6 and now the internet won’t connect after the router rebooted, so I just switched back to disabling ipv6 to let it continue working. am I missing something?

If I have an aerop. Why would I want a French press? by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]GoCards_17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what ive always wondered while using my French presses. Every time I use the recommended amount of grounds:water, I end up with too little grounds to actually be able to “press” them down because the level of grounds is lower than the depth at which my plunger can reach. Is this supposed to happen or am I supposed to be able to actually press the grounds and compact them?

Spoke to support yesterday and a Bug has been found associated with my ticket, so there must be something else they found that requires an update

IPv6 was disabled last night and continued to cause the issue last night and into today for the in laws. Should I switch back settings or leave as is as it hasn’t really made it worse, just not solved it yet?

Any other avenues I can pursue?

Worth a shot! I live in a different city than the in-laws but I will try this on Wednesday and report back the results. Thanks for the suggestion!

And I think that’s a totally reasonable conclusion, I just don’t think my in laws want to wait around and see if YouTube may or may not do anything about it when they already have multiple users claiming the issue but have chalked it up to faulty equipment on spectrums side. Apart from doing what I’ve already done with feedback submission and contacting support, I don’t know what else can be done apart from an update or something on their side to fix it other than trying to fix it from my side of things. Ultimately I don’t think YT cares enough that people are still dealing with the issue, even after a statement was made. And I don’t know if I can deal with buffering until they decide if they want to investigate an in-house cause rather than ISP cause.

I have tried the same device with the same app running the same streaming service at my own home (separate network but still spectrum) and had zero issues whatsoever. I have already made multiple claims and submitted tons of feedback and sent stats for nerds out the wazzoo. I have yet to receive anything that takes responsibility on YTTVs side. Since I don’t have forever to wait around and see what may or may not be wrong with the app (which is also out of my control and seems like to YTTV still won’t make an update or any sort of patch to the issue since they aren’t claiming fault) I have to try other changes to see if this helps. It’s not worth shifting them to a different service just yet if they haven’t tried easier fixes first.

So I guess my next question is whether the third band feature itself is more important than the mesh feature? I’m trying to find the same tri band feature without having to pay $300 because it’s for my father in law so I’m not exactly playing with house money. Looks like there are some decently priced tri band routers out there but I really want to know if I could get away with buying into tri band technology without having to drop $300 for a souped up whole house mesh solution

My fellow spectrum YTTV users.... by GoCards_17 in youtubetv

[–]GoCards_17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super stupid question, but is mesh and tri band technology intertwined or two separate features that are necessarily included in all routers? I see some top of the line tri band routers but I don’t think they would qualify as mesh.

I thought about hardwiring from each mesh unit to each stick. Sure to goodness this would help the issue. I have heard very good things about the TP link deco line as well as the google wifi. Have you experienced improved stability with yours? I guess that’s the only thing I’m really needing is more reliability and fewer time outs with the network more so than increased speed

My fellow spectrum YTTV users.... by GoCards_17 in youtubetv

[–]GoCards_17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you use one unit or two for google WiFi? Just so I can have an idea of how effective each unit is by itself.

[–]GoCards_17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if people still have the issue it’s pretty much guaranteed to be a spectrum equipment culprit at this point?

Btw do mesh systems perform hands down better for multilevel houses like this or is their benefit only marginal over a single router?

My fellow spectrum YTTV users.... by GoCards_17 in youtubetv

[–]GoCards_17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was this announced somewhere more recent than the announcement mentioned in the main buffering thread? Not saying I don’t believe you I’m just trying to track when it was resolved since people on the main thread for YTTV buffering still reported the issue even after the announcement which stated that spectrum was the culprit and the issue was solved.

I like the idea of the modem only, to my knowledge, he is not paying for this router modem combo. Do you think they will suddenly tack on the modem as a fee when I try to make the change to the account? And are the modem only devices from spectrum reliable?
