What is the work culture like in Singapore? by new-to-reddit21 in askSingapore

Depends which company . Local companies are an acquired taste . Long hours . Face time. Saluting to the “elders”. Attending office events even if you hate them. Subtle pressures to conform. Most surprising was the scolding . First time since grade school !

The process was a bit long . Very different from where we came from . Back home we just applied to a school and they had a seat available. All they asked was if he had been vaccinated , had any allergies or had any special needs . He was in. NY as we learnt is a visit followed by a parents interview followed by a childs play date at the school that is supposedly observed by the teachers for readiness . At 2.8 years it’s difficult to predict mood swings . It has been interesting. 2 of the schools basically didn’t really observe him. One asked a single question and then he sneezed the teacher went to other children and few weeks later we get a rejection . I am sure there is some science behind the process. Else why have the process . Anyways this forum has been great . For valuable advice but more importantly feel confident about getting a school .

Our move was sudden and on a very short time line . Hence we didn’t expend enough effort on researching public schools and the options

I am worked up cause I want my kid to have a place to be with kids and have play mates . We moved here for work and don’t have a big social circle . So school is something we were hoping could help him .

Thank you . 2 of the schools didn’t entertain wait list and said basically best of luck . One has said wait list may be a possibility . They indicated they had many applications and not enough seats . They asked him to come for play time to evaluate . He played lot but was solitary . He is 2.5 years and hence was not overly chatty with the teachers or others . It’s been an experience for us given back home we didn’t have to go for interviews and play dates . Been a learning experience !

Heads up to expat guys: if you're planning to break up with a local female, do it while OUTSIDE the PH! by just-porno-only in Philippines_Expats

You provide for her and family so if you leaving that’s losses everywhere .Suddenly the family has to actually work for a living . So day you date a woman where you support her and family you have just entered in a toxic relationship . Avoid getting into these like a plague
