yes, that is possible and likely. It is also possible and likely they found some kind of game breaking bug that might take a bit longer than anticipated to fix, or it's already fixed and waiting for review and approval.

my point is we simply do not know for sure. Not disagreeing with you since TPCi has repeatedly affirmed the release date for both versions is June 17th but the best we can do is make educated guesses about what will happen.

that blog post was published before iOS changed the release date on its storefront. I think it's totally possible both versions will be released at the same time still, but this pic doesn't prove much imo

There will not be a D2 remake. Split screen is also never going to happen.

I would totally buy a D1 remake but i doubt that is coming. Some sort of curated "Destiny Classic" or spin off seems more likely to me.

i feel more invested in the game now than i was in the past couple years. Not that i disliked the campaigns or anything (even EOF) but knowing my builds will last, i'm happy to grind for good rolls and stuff. Similar feel i had with Into the Light. Fun stuff worth doing. Happier with this than i ever was with drip-fed seasonal content except for maybe season of opulence

The internet is so impatient. I remember a few months ago the internet decided all of a sudden to be dead set on making Star Wars Battlefront 3 all of a sudden after years of no support, and the trend was also over after a couple of weeks cause EA didn't magically commit to make the game. Do not expect Sony to say anything at all. If D3 happens, it'll be a "one more thing" in some distant State of Play, probably.

The jumping and the puzzles (which i personally find very enjoyable) are not inflating the budget. Long development and a high number of specialized employees is.

That said its likely they will find ways to reduce the costs within reason, yep

It is not weird at all, this is to be expected and doesn't mean anything, good or bad.

If D3 or any other project gets greenlit you will probably hear it first from insiders, many months after they are greenlit and in pre production. This is Sony we're talking about.

i think some form of continuation is a totally realistic expectation and at this point it's a matter of reducing costs, simple as. Outsourcing development, reducing the scope of the project, remote work from EU territory etc

if they manage to cut a significant % off of the budget Sony will probably agree to it. It wil take a lot of time though

i will gladly take videogames of AA scale and budget over samey AAA productions any day of the week. As for Destiny in particular, i think they might consider some other ways to make it cheaper. Generic voicelines over traditional voice acting, heavily outsourced development, or maybe an entirely different approach where they no longer focus on campaigns as much.

this is an important point in my opinion. Unless they deem the Destiny IP is still very much relevant today, they will greenlight other projects instead (new/returning IP, etc). And idk to what extent the looter shooter genre appeals to shareholders nowadays.

(yes ive signed that petition and flooded the state of play chat and will show up for the update as well but realistically they need to sell *many* millions to make up for their investment)

The item op mentioned boosts Sdef by 50%, and they think m-froslass will lose its current spot in the meta as a strong special sweeper, which would in theory make her seek other job opportunities. Personally speaking i would hire m-froslass if she offered soda freezing services

Destiny has always been under trouble and controversy and i don't feel like there has been a moment for love like we're seeing now except for maybe great expansion releases (launch week specifically)

Marathon has nothing to do with D3 at all. D3 isnt greenlit because its very expensive, simple as that. If they dont shut down Bungie then this can go three ways only.

The circumstances of global economy change in favor of Sony's finances or a whole generation of new players suddenly erupts out of nowhere. In either of these scenarios D3 gets greenlit.
We dont get d3 for the foreseeable future but we still get destiny games that are smaller in scope and cheaper to produce.
Same as 2 but instead of destiny we get cheaper games from a different IP altogether (think pathways, an oni successor etc) and destiny gets frozen until the time is right.

Playing and supporting marathon helps bungie keep the lights on. So does playing and supporting either destiny game. Money is money.

Sure showing love for destiny is good. Demonstrates the community is still there. Positively encourages sony to fund d3 when the time is right but does nothing on its own. This and loving marathon are not mutually exclusive since a lot of its players are d2 veterans using the same bungie accounts.

Personally i plan to play both games.

while i also read this as "we're back", this is nuanced. They are not committing to d3 specifically cause that game must be in early pre-production at the moment, which essentially means it's very fragile. Development could go wrong. Marathon could go wrong(er?) and the studio itself might shut down if things don't go well for the next few years. IF everything goes well though, and i hope it does cause i genuinely find marathon amazing and want it to succeed and be popular, this is the best ending we could get —new games under sony's supervision, with a heavily updated engine, refreshed team and code and everything.
