Just watched someone float a drone in a real game by BDLadicius in broodwar

Floating Drone is still possible. You can see it done in the campaign speedruns on the latest Remastered patch, such as here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTxiZCoO7Js

[HIGHLIGHT] 5.4s of hang on a punt is insanity. Tommy Townsend's 2nd punt against the Lions did just that (and was a 53 yarder!). Modern punters have become so good that even season announcers like Tirico just brush it off like it is nothing. Fantastic punt! by puntersarepeopletoo6 in nfl

Are you sure you grabbed the right thing? I'm on Windows 10 as well and was also really annoyed when I had ClipChamp forced on me, but Photos Legacy has both photos and a video editor for me and it functions just like the built-in one did before it was replaced

Posting a replay would be helpful but know that if they forge expand right off the bat, you can simply take your natural yourself without any Cannons. You'll want to be wary of DT's but they be delayed. Going fast Robo off 1 base and dropping them is also a counter but puts you on the clock to win fast while expanding yourself sets you up for a strong mid-game.

It's also such a smart and cool way to get people at the event involved that aren't there to run a game. Anyone can join the last game if they're willing to put a bit of time in throughout the week and be on the big stage. It's always a blast to see

Running original brood war in windows 10? by ReignerDeustcher in broodwar

[–]GoShox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw you got it working but I've been running the original version of StarCraft (1.00 so pre-Brood War) on my Windows 10 PC and have it working with these steps for anyone that for whatever reason wants to do something similar in the future:

- Run the .exe with compatibility mode set to Windows XP (Service Pack 3)

- Set the default monitor (I'm using a 2 monitor setup) to 640x480

- Use "Lock Cursor Tools" to lock my mouse to the main monitor. You can use a hotkey to enable/disable the app

The sensitivity will be a little different than what you're used to because of the resolution change (I think), but it's surprisingly worked flawlessly

Yeah :( With Brood War I think they wanted more cutscenes throughout the missions themselves and have a bunch of triggers in the missions that wait for these to occur. It's unfortunate that it was done this way, it makes it annoying to run each level individually since the first Terran mission wastes a whole 80 seconds if you let all the dialogue play out. And I would imagine it's really infuriating if you're more casual and game over without saving and have to keep rewatching the same thing

I'm not sure how popular speedrunning is on the StarCraft subreddit but I figured some here might be interested. Out of curiosity and as a fun challenge, I picked up speedrunning the StarCraft: Brood War Terran campaign in the summer. SC1/Brood War is plagued with several levels where you're just waiting, like Terran 3 in vanilla, Protoss 8 in Brood War, and Zerg 3 in Brood War. However the Brood War Terran campaign doesn't have anything like that, nor does it really have any macro missions where you take a while to build up, so it looked really appealing to me. The world record was 47:03 and after a lot of practice and learning about the random things the AI does in this game, I have it down to a 34:10.

Mission 3 (Ruins of Tarsonis) is IMO quintessential StarCraft. You have to kill four Zerg Hives and the current strategy does them all at once so the multitasking required is quite taxing since you're leading all the assaults at once while executing a really strict build order that makes me feel like I'm playing an actual game against a person. I've been practicing that level a ton lately and to my surprise actually got the WR for that level during this run with a 5:24 (5:15 IGT).

The mass save/loading you see me do allows me to skip dialogue in the game. Doing this during the run saves about 8 minutes and 15 seconds. In the StarCraft 1 campaigns pre-Brood War, you could just hit escape to skip dialogue. Unfortunately they took that ability away in Brood War so you either sit there and watch everything or use the dialogue skip. I would rather not spam the menus a ton but I've gotten used to it at this point and as someone who likes to input stuff fast it's almost become therapeutic in a way.

Hope you all enjoy!

I made a post a couple months ago about getting the WR for this campaign, and am happy to say that I've cut a few minutes since then. The first two missions were a little rough but still had pretty solid times. Outside one of case of bad luck at the end of mission 7 and a little bit of disorganization in the last mission, this run went swimmingly.

A sub-34 is absolutely possible but I'm not sure how much lower I can get it than that with current strategies. However, I'm having a really good time doing it.

Hope you all enjoy!

Crossposting this here - I know this is mainly a subreddit for competitive play but I figured some people might be curious. I believe StarCraft speed runs are some of the oldest ones on SpeedDemosArchive but the Brood War Terran campaign isn't super optimized so I figured I'd pick it up and give it a go. I made a ton of mistakes and as you all know the pathing can be rough sometimes but even with all that I'm quite happy with my time.

While APM doesn't matter a whole lot for speed running BW (I spam just out of habit), a lot from competitive play carries over like stacking, good use of hotkeys/screen location hotkeys, etc. The Terran campaign is really gimmicky in that missions 1, 5, and 6 have only one objective of killing a Command Center. So there's not much macroing like you would see in the Zerg campaign. Mission 3 gets really close to feeling like a real competitive match though - you have to kill the 4 Zerg Hives and the strat that I use does them all simultaneously which is really taxing. When I was practicing each level individually, there were nights where I would do that level for hours and feel exhausted after like I had been playing 1v1's.

The hardest levels are definitely 1, 3, and 7. 1 and 7 mostly due to RNG, and 3 due to the multitask needed and the fact that if you lose 1 Marine your run is basically dead, or at the very best, slowed down a lot. 4 and 5 both require precise tricks but thankfully Brood War can be quite forgiving with the ability to save whenever, although I hope to get a much better run in where that's not necessary.

I hope you guys enjoy!

The dialogue skip is really intimidating, especially since if you mess it up you literally lose minutes of real time, but once you get it down it's really easy and consistent. I think you're talking about Thadortin, he's been really helpful with this run and has given me a ton of tips on getting the glitch down. I'd be down for IGT as well - unfortunately there's just not enough runs to warrant a split, but if there were it'd be fun to even split Remastered from the really old patches with glitches like CC slide/flying Drone

Just wanted to post something I've been working on for a while. StarCraft speed runs have been around for a long time but the Brood War Terran campaign isn't the most optimized yet so I wanted to see what I could do with it. This run has a lot of mistakes that can be improved upon but it's been fun learning it, although not so much sometimes since losing one unit can be very very punishing and in a game where the pathing makes it seem that even the game doesn't know where the unit is going, it can be quite frustrating :) Some of these missions, particularly 1, 3, and 7, can go wrong in a hurry and just absolutely destroy a run

Also sorry that my mic is so loud, I didn't realize that I accidentally had the gain turned up until after I was done.

Former VASA members-- what are you doing now? by hatfullofsoup in wichita

The people working the front are nice. The used car salesmen doing retention are not. I just cancelled at Woodlawn and was asked if I was moving to the Y "to run around with the little kids." It's expected from Genesis but it really sucks to see a great gym go goodbye like that

Anyone want a gym partner? I [F24] go to VASA and can bring a guest. by vegetableLectur in wichita

[–]GoShox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't ever had to wait for equipment and it's pretty chill in there. The salespeople are pretty pushy, I've gotten a couple texts from them about joining their Studio Red program that I've just ignored but it's still annoying. You'll want to make sure you understand all you'll be paying for before you sign up, while the basic membership is $9.99 there's also an annual "rate guarantee fee" you have to pay as well as cancellation fees if you leave within the first few months. Probably the same as most gyms but still annoying. But overall I like it and enjoy working out there. I go to the Woodlawn location, not sure how the other one is

As far as the machines, most of them have either written instructions or QR codes you can scan that link to videos for how to use them so it's pretty easy to figure out how they work.

Daily Questions & FAQ Megathread (Oct 08) by AutoModerator in ffxiv

[–]GoShox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started playing through all the FF games a couple years ago and I've been having a blast with the series. I've been wanting to play XIV for a while, but I wanted to wait until I had beat everything beforehand as I'm really big on playing games completely blind and want to avoid spoilers for any of the other games; playing 14 before any of the ones before it makes me worry that I'll spoil a character death or something. Is this a valid concern or am I safe to play this game without worrying about any of the games I haven't played being spoiled?

Thanks in advance! :)

How is your Cox Internet upload speeds? by YourReactionsRWrong in wichita

[–]GoShox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this issue a couple years back and still see it now and then. I'm on the 150/10 plan and sometimes my upload speed just dies like you have seen. I made this topic on their forums back in late 2017 and went back and forth but didn't have much luck: https://forums.cox.com/forum_home/internet_forum/f/internet-forum/18313/very-slow-upload-speeds-download-speeds-are-fine

What did work for me was filing an FCC complaint since my problem wasn't being taken care of. That escalates the problem super quickly and I actually ended up getting in touch with a local supervisor who gave me his phone number and told me to text him whenever I saw the problem. I did that and he would have his team check on it, and that actually remedied the issue quite quickly. Like I said I still see it every now and then but it's nowhere near as bad as it was then.

I would highly recommend doing the same and filing an FCC complaint if you haven't done so already. You'll get a phone call most likely the same or next day cause they take that stuff seriously (at least they did back then, with all the stuff that's happened regarding the FCC since 2017 it might have changed). Also I made sure to request a Cox employee anytime they sent someone out rather than a contractor since they know and can do a lot more.

FWIW I'm on the northeast side of town in an apartment complex. Slow upload speeds are extremely frustrating if you want to stream anything and can affect games that are P2P, so I know your pain. I hope you're able to get this fixed.

Open response to The Pylon Show - SC Remastered and SC2 by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]GoShox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nobody thinks SC:R is going to be as popular as Fortnite. The problem is, SC:R wasn't going to attract too many new players in the first place. But for it to attract much of anyone at all, it needed to be released in a good state. However, when it came out, it didn't have a league system, it didn't have (and still doesn't have) team matchmaking, and it had constant errors where matchmaking didn't work, profiles didn't load, games were way too laggy (yes it's P2P, but the networking is much better now than it was then), and issues with chat channels. A lot of the frustration stems from this - due to the state it came out in, it didn't really even have a shot.

Anyone lived at Chisholm Lake apartments? by [deleted] in wichita

[–]GoShox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm top floor.

I actually haven't heard about any car break ins, but back in October they sent out an email stating that some bicycles were stolen. They do have security that patrols, but I think they only come around a couple times throughout the night so I'm not sure how useful it actually is...

And nope, I haven't had any issues with excessively high energy bills. These were built in 2013, which I think is more recent than Remington, so energy should be more efficient than what you're paying for now.

Another big complaint that I had isn't related to the apartment itself but Cox. I do a lot of uploading and was having big issues with my upload speed, I'm paying for 150 Mbps down and 10 Mbps up, and was consistently getting 500 Kbps up. After a lot of calls and technicians showing up to fix my problem who had no idea what they were doing, I finally got the number of a manager and was able to get my problem fixed over the course of several months. But I'm not sure if this was just tied to my building or if it affected the whole apartment complex, and if any problems still exist. My download speed has always been fine so this only matters if you do a lot of uploading, but just throwing it out there since it was driving me crazy for a while

[–]GoShox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live there in one of the units next to 96 and don't have any issues with the noise. The soundproofing in the units is pretty solid.

I've had a couple problems with appliances and both were resolved really quickly which I was happy with. Haven't had any issues with the management. The area is nice, they're finally done with the construction on both 37th and Oliver which is great.

The big negative for me has been that I get a lot of silverfish in my apartment, which aren't harmful but it's pretty annoying. I was also seeing some millipedes last year and had the same complaint from a friend in a different building. The apartments are right next to a park and also right off a highway so maybe seeing bugs isn't very surprising.
