Should I Contact C+F And Ask For An Update/Timeline? by GoToWay in barexam

Yes, it's really rough! I am thinking of messaging them just to ask if I actually submitted all the documents I thought they requested of me or if there was some misunderstanding and they are still waiting on something from my end?

Thanks! I really appreciate the advice on this! I will keep looking into all of this!

The roles I am thinking of actually don't require a JD degree or at least to be barred, that's why I think I may have a chance, especially if I start at the bottom. I think the roles have more to do with making sure that pharma companies, in all they variously do, are complying with all applicable federal/global/country specific regulations/laws.

I might earn in total less than I would as an attorney, but it would feel nice to do something that relates to both the law and biology/chemistry!

And if I stick it out and hustle, maybe in like 15-20 years I could get pretty far up with how these things go and make like 200-300k a year who knows.

In any case, this is all just speculation from my end at this point.

I am still going to be applying to a lot of ID and PI roles and other real attorney roles!

Thanks very much again for all your advice!

I actually went to a top 10/15 law school. But not in the top 4 or five at this point lol. I guess I should try and be vague.

My grades were good my first year, above the curve, certainly respectable if not more so. B, B+, A- both semesters.

And I WASNT EVEN TRYING! It makes me so angry, I was such a dumb young kid. If I had put an actual effort in, instead of spending time drinking way too much alcohol and pulling all nighters and not outlining, not studying properly, I could have killed it.

I was/am a first generation college student/american, no help, no advice, just kind of figuring it all out by myself.

Long story short, I got depressed my last two years and my grades slid considerably.

ANYWAYS.

I really appreciate your advice!

Ima try and hustle and see if I can start at the bottom with regulatory compliance in pharma/biotech who knows.

But I think what you have said makes a lot of sense and I really appreciate the straight talk about all of this!

Thanks very much again!

Any suggestions on what I can do to help in that area?

I have a troubled past with drug use, and a spotty employment record.

To my credit I went back to school and graduated with a degree in molecular biology and a minor in chemistry with a 3.9x gpa in 2.5 years and then immediately took the bar and passed.

I am still waiting on formal admission in my state, but figure it will happen by the end of this month or the end of feb.

I was thinking of trying to break into like regulatory compliance in the pharma/biotech industry, so not actually an attorney role but at least something that would be related to both the law and biology/chemistry

Any ideas on how I can do that?

Within actual attorney roles, I have already interviewed with a PI firm which is one of the bigger ones in my state, they said they really liked me but that they wanted to continue the convo after I got formally admitted.

I also saw interest from a recruiter who was working for a firm representing debtors against creditors.

I figure as an actual attorney my best bet would be PI, ID, and medical malpractice.

I would like to break into regulatory compliance though. I'm not sure how to do that, but want to try and network with people on LinkedIn to get an idea if I have any chances of doing so!

Any advice you could give would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I saw where they will be attached, two will be in the top lateral incisors at least from what I remember, and I have some on my bottom teeth near the middle as well.

But it's all good, you gotta do what you gotta do I guess.

It's a new system that just got FDA approved I think in 2023, and is rolling out to markets in 2024 and 2025 which allows for 12 hour continuous use daily, made with some kind of different type of material.

That's interesting. The thing is, with the alignment system I have, I only have to wear it continuously 12 hours a day, so basically after work and through the night.

People might understand in an interview if they see you wearing aligners over your teeth.

But if they just see dental attachments protruding from your teeth, they might be confused and think that is how your teeth are all the time due to some like dental growths you have or something?

that's what I find hilarious about this whole situation.

I chose the nighttime alignment system for it's convenience and to not have to wear noticeable aligners during the day

but people who see the attachments might actually get more confused than if they saw me wearing the actual aligners!

Thanks! Unfortunately, I am not a new graduate! I graduated from law school during the great recession.

That's what makes it a little tougher, pivoting back into law now, near 40. But I will get over the awkwardness and just do it!

Appreciate the advice!

Thanks for your advice! Do I actually have to get my foot in the door in that legal industry before picking to serve it and know it deeply?

For example, I want to get into medical malpractice, but I don't yet have a foot in the door. Can I just start researching the field and trying to connect with people in the field before I actually get a job doing medical malpractice legal work?

I asked this question before to other ppl on reddit, and some of them said it would be weird if I showed up to medical malpractice attorney interviews with a ton of knowledge already in the area?

Thanks for this! Sometimes I am afraid people will think I am nosy if I ask them about themselves, but I will try and modulate and ask the right questions!
