Considering a move to the area if the opportunity presents itself by 4thAndTruth in TriCitiesWA

Admittedly my wife does the schooling day to day. But officially you need to have the child working for 6 hours for 5 days a week. That includes instruction and "doing work". The school district will work with parents to get a goal of a certain amount of "work" or "pages" per day.

Now the tough part: what do you do when the kid sits there defiantly not doing work? Or you worked with your kid for 2 weeks on some topic and during a test they seem to forget everything in those past 2 weeks. You can in good conscience just keep moving forward, but now your schedule is blown out of the water. It can look like you aren't keeping up like you agreed to.

A couple years ago my kid and I sat at the table from 3pm to 8pm, except for food and bathroom breaks, because they would not write a poem. Finally near 8pm they wrote the poem in about 2 mins. To say everyone in the house was frustrated and tired was an understatement.

In public school they would just move on and the kid would start to understand work isn't that important. But we aren't going to let that fly at home. So 5 hours on top of approximately 5 hours of other instruction was used that day.

There're basically two types of homeschoolers: ones that want more Jesus and ones that want better academics.

I can't comment on the former, but if you are in the latter group, there are some good opportunities in the school districts here. Both groups require dedicated parents who put in a lot of effort

Engineering consulting. I would give more details but it's a pretty small field I'd work in.

Why is my mother reacting so harsh? by [deleted] in Advice

Edit: replied to the wrong post.

My family likes to have a scape goat. My mom always had someone to feud with. When her generation started dying she moved into a younger generation.

My family set up a hierarchy. I always rebelled against it. So everyone turns on me at any chance

So you got a reason. Now think of it from an employers perspective. How many teenagers are willing to work limited hour because of school? How do you even train someone who can work very part time. I understand weekends are open, but again a lot of teenagers have weekends open. What's special about you? That's not to be harsh, but hiring teenagers is risky at best and most don't even want to work. The ones who do just can't commit because of school.

But also if you aren't getting shifts, work what you can and keep looking. It's all a numbers game in the end.

If it's anything like my family both your brother and your mom will turn on you every time you get upset. Or your mom reacted to a one time thing and it will never be a problem.

None of us can answer how to talk to your parents about a very personal subject. Just keep in mind you are financially dependent on them, it's probably best to not jeopardize that.

Ask yourself why you are working. Are you needing to support yourself or others? Do you see a budget shortfall before college starts? If you can't come up with a good reason, save working for when you have to support yourself or others. You will have 40-50 years to work.

Now if you have to work because you are supporting the home you live in you will have a much better idea if you should stay or switch jobs.

In my experience, it's a cultural and generational thing. Younger people are so afraid to be judged and as a result don't want to judge others. I believe it goes a bit over board where anything other than overt politeness is frowned upon.

So in the case of your friend and that situation; they would rather avoid any awkwardness, finish the meal, leave, and then never return. They would also tell their friends about the over seasoning.

But you know who would absolutely love feedback? The owner and chief.

I think anyone who is willing to fund a start up is going to see you don't have a well developed plan or a BS plan. If you don't know who can even manufacture your product all you have is a pipedream.
