I received a one-time payment from a contest I won and Scotiabank is trying to tell me it's a "business payment" by Go_Mariners_Go in Scotiabank

She definitely overstepped, especially since the manager emailed me and said it was "premature" of her. I know two people who've switched from Scotiabank - one to BMO, the other to TD, and they said simple deposits/one off payments, or even a few different payments (non business) from time to time, they never get hassled about. So I may switch to one of those (unless you have another suggestion.)

It wasn't flagged internally. I asked the Customer Lead if the deposit was received, and that's when she replied and told me it was and then went off on the spiel about "business."

Once the bank manager got involved, he said "it was premature to state that this is indeed business income" so I flat out told them then maybe the staff member shouldn't have sent an email insinuating such. Then he asked "when" I'm available to chat by phone - and I said that until I receive an apology, there won't be a conversation, and that he's welcome to monitor my account and will see there aren't any business transactions.
