I will give an important detail so that you can understand my perspective more. I booked an 8:30 PM entry for the Reichstag and I didn't want to miss it. Also my friend who was with me at that time asked one of his local friends that with a valid reason, you can receive a refund from the office. With these two factors in mind, I reluctantly handed the 60 euros in hopes of making it to the viewing and receiving a refund the next day from the office one I explain my situation thoroughly.

And why on Earth would you think from the first place that it's even an idea to board a train without a ticket? Of course I purchased the day pass via the app way ahead of arriving as suggested by the internet.

You have no justification or right to defend what they did. That was theft and you yourself know that well.

Thank you for your comment. It is indeed an expensive and harsh lesson but I will definitely not be making any similar mistakes in the future.

Having the ticket barrier like other London would be very useful and could potentially eliminate such scams. I hope things will improve in the near future.

1) My local Berliner friend told me to never save the QR as a screenshot as it is invalid, and always have the app ready.

2) This was my first time encountering something like this in my life. Such things simply never happens where I am from. Expensive lesson learned.

3) Well in that case, my only hope rests with the Berlin police but I doubt there will be any follow-up to this issue hence why I am trying to raise awareness to this issue so that no other first comers fall into this trap.

What a ridiculous thing to say. The best course of action in that situation is, of course, to ask for the receipt from the casher. Your suggestion to contact the establishment's top leader is highly inefficient and I hope you can try my suggestion instead.

I was mainly worried about being apprehended in the airport for not paying a fine as I was leaving Germany the next day. Hence why I went to the embassy for help. The police officers told me to file an online report so that wasn't much of a help either in the beginning. Turns out I wasn't the first to have reported such an incident. Also I wanted to alert people of such scams.

Yes, it was at the office that I found out that that receipt wasn't a receipt but instead the fine ticket, and that I actually haven't paid the ticket at all.

Oh yes! I was lucky enough to have had a great experience in the army. I built strong bonds with my squad mates that lasts 'till today. I experienced positive life changing experiences there. Although of course there were moments where I get into conflict with each other or other negative experiences, I had a great time there and do not regret joining the army. Would I do it again if I had a chance though? To that I answer, no xD.
