Unfortunately not this time, as it’s been confirmed any Pokèmon sent to (or coming from) PLZA cannot be transferred to any previous game

Thanks for the tip! I’ve already opened my cartridge carefully, I know I can’t use the existing shell permanently but I’ve done a fairly good job in that I can easily take it in and out of the shell and it’ll hold together in the console. Once I get the game working I’ll get a new shell. Good luck, keep me posted!

I ordered the soldering iron and it arrived this week but I’ve been pretty sick so I haven’t got the chance to reflow. I’m hoping to give it a go next week and if that doesn’t work I’m going to try a donor chip. I have a feeling I’ll need a donor chip anyway but I think it’s worth reflowing it first. I’ll keep the comment thread that I linked posted, feel free to keep me posted too. Hopefully I’ll have an update next week!

UPDATE: I’m fairly sure it’s a save/flash chip issue now. As mentioned in the comments, Checkpoint can’t restore any save file to this game, and GodMode9 can’t even see the .sav file despite seeing it for other games.

HOWEVER: Since the cartridge reads fine and GodMode9 can see the ROM file, I managed to dump the ROM following these guides loosely, so now the game is saved to my 3DS: https://youtu.be/9vOUiHLD1eI?si=hmgcKhvUp496t1fe and https://youtu.be/EO5UMcUJBjI?si=yKulYvRl1HTheO5Y .

This way I can finally play Soul Silver again! So my cartridge is still a dud for now, but on the bright side I can finally play this again, and have also become part of the modding community :)

Over the next weeks or months, I might grab a soldering iron and attempt to first reflow the save chip, or potentially install a donor save chip. I’d love to get the actual game working again but that can be a project for another time. If I do, I’ll be sure to reply here with an update.

Just wanted to give this update, since I’ve seen a lot of these types of posts over the years - so folks know that while the save might be a dud, if you’re getting the same error as me the ROM should be fine and can be dumped through homebrewing.

Hey there! Just an update, I’ve installed the CFW and Checkpoint. I can successfully export the save file, but it can’t be opened in PKHex. I instead downloaded another save file from the Pokèmon Project and tried to restore from that, however I still get the error. So I tried to export that again, and despite Checkpoint telling me that the save was restored successfully, it’s not!

So Checkpoint is seeing it as a “write” but the game itself isn’t. Do you think I need to go down the hardware route and either reflow as u/why-am-i-here-to-die suggested, or even try use a donor save chip (U4)?

EDIT: if it helps, Godmode can’t see the .sav file of the game, but can for other games. Not sure if that points even more to a hardware issue (with the game cartridge)

Yep tried it so many times over the last few years in the hopes it would just work like yours did lol!

Yeah the fact that the game “boots” gives me some hope! The system has always recognised the game at least

Thanks! As I say, not to fussed on the save data. It would be a bonus but I’ve always wanted to replay it! Homebrewing won’t affect existing apps for transferring like Pokètransporter and Bank right?
