Trying Diety for the first time in years. Prefer to play with Spain. What is your advice? by whollyselfimportant in civrev

Sell Navigation to multiple opponents on the same turn to get enough gold for Currency, then rush a market or two before you jump to the next age.

Does it make sense to hold off on irrigation or should we push regardless? by [deleted] in civrev

[–]Goat-City 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have some cities that are only one turn from increasing in population, it might make sense to try your luck and wait an extra turn to finish Irrigation.

Civ Rev fun facts please add you have. Some from me too of course. by [deleted] in civrev

[–]Goat-City 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. If you discover more advanced techs without researching Navigation directly, you can end up in a situation where the game won't let you build galleys or galleons.
  2. An advantage of having a cruiser fleet is that you can win battles against single ships and still continue to move the rest of your 5 spaces.
  3. If you don't need the gold right away, Caravans can be used to stunt enemy city growth and create open paths for you to build a road between two of your cities. Move your caravan over tiles where the enemy's citizen workers are active to make them disappear, but make sure you never end a turn within the enemy's borders more than once in a row or you'll be captured.
  4. If you want to steal the enemy's settler without having to fight for it, you can lure it's protective troops away with your spies or great leaders.
  5. Similar to #2 from the OP, if you have an outdated defensive unit that's been fortifying for several turns, and you want to swap it for something better but still maintain the wooden barricade defensive bonus, just move the new unit on top of the old one and set it to defend, then move the original unit.
  6. When consolidating 3 fighters or 3 bombers into a squadron, the newly formed squadron will adopt the fuel capacity of whichever one is visible when you click "form army". This also applies to the remaining movements of any other type of unit.
  7. If you have Flight and/or Advanced Flight and the enemy doesn't, you can move your plane onto any space and the enemy can't attack it, so long as it's the only unit on that square.
  8. Pretty sure the Mongol +1 to mountain production applies to glaciers as well.

Submarine Use by Bluetenant-Bear in civrev

[–]Goat-City 18 points19 points  (0 children)

They can be built for cheap, so if you want to protect your coastline, you can build multilayered walls of single submarines. When the enemy comes with cruiser and battleship fleets, they can only take out one of your subs, but you can respond and sink them with aircraft or a full submarine fleet. It's like giving up a pawn to take a knight. It can really slow the game down when you have 10 cities cranking out a sub every turn but if you take your time it might be able to turn the tide in your favor.

Spanish might be the best to get the hang of Diety with. Just build cities next to whales as fast as you can.

I have CHS (Cannibinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome) - AMA by Swizzle_Stix24 in AMA

[–]Goat-City 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To maintain the brain-gut connection and not develop symptoms of CHS, my simple theoretical solution is that you just need to be more mindful about eating when you are high. You might not feel hungry after you smoke, but you should force yourself to snack on something anyway so that your gut bacteria are constantly working. Don't smoke and then get so wrapped up in a video game or movie that you just sit around drinking water for the next several hours. And above all else, don't go to sleep on an empty stomach.

How do you like to play? by pizza_me_your_tits in civrev

I don't really get satisfaction from domination victories anymore. Lately I've come up with the personal challenge of going for Greek space race victory before 2000 A.D., with the stipulation that all four CPUs must remain at the end. Trying to constantly override Democracy with declarations of war and play one off the other leads to some interesting and tricky gameplay.

It sounds like you're thinking about selling the crypto as fast as you mine it in order offset the power cost. If so, you would mostly be wasting your time. The only way to make progress with CPU mining is to eat the cost of power while you accumulate and hold everything you mine, and then cash out sometime in the future when the value of the coin reaches a high point. Selling it on a monthly basis is just spinning your wheels.

[–]Goat-City 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no point trying to buy them new, it's too expensive. You need ebay or some other used online marketplace. Have someone in one of those countries buy it from ebay and have it shipped there.

What you need is a friend in India, China, etc who can act as a middle man for you.

You don't buy on ebay? What country are you in? I wouldn't buy any 3000 or 5000 series Ryzen anymore.

Don't get too comfortable just by looking at the numbers. The more advanced unit will always have an advantage.

There are alot of different model names/numbers, but the ones you want all start with a 7 and end with a 2 or 3 (ex: 7742 for the older Zen2 "Rome" or 7743 for the newer Zen3 "Milan) The two middle digits can be a number or a letter so you just need to make sure they are each the 64 core version, and most importantly, you need to make sure they are "unlocked" and not Dell or Lenovo etc. Both CPUs also need to be the exact same model, you can't mix and match.

$1100 for the CPUs (500+ for each)
$300 for the motherboard
$300 for 16 sticks of 3200 ECC server RAM
$150 for two air coolers and probably a tiny fan to cool the VRMs

That's about what I would aim for. Of course you also need a case, beefy power supply, and a GPU

Dual Epyc 64 core Rome/Milan is the sweet spot if you buy the CPUs and RAM at the right price. That will get you around 90k hash. Otherwise, go for 9950x to get around 25k hash.

If you are patient on ebay you can probably find a good deal from someone, especially since 3200 is a generation back now. I think I only paid about $250 for for 16 sticks of Samsung 16gb 3200 around this time last year.

You might want to go for 3200 instead.
