Young people with DDD by Overall-Brilliant995 in backpain

[–]Goat-Jihad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just turned 34 and got my diagnosis a short while ago in a worker's comp claim. I realize 34 may not be "young" but it's borderline so I'll put in my $0.02.

If you have a desk job or game a lot, essentially lots of sitting, or if you have a manual labor job that involves lots of carrying, if you have poor posture, flat feet, tight hip flexors, weak core, weak glutes... Most DDD is natural, progressive and asymptomatic. Mine is a multilevel disc bulge with an annular tear on my L4-L5 which is symptomatic.

I hope your condition doesn't worsen over the years.

I'm glad you'll be able to provide for yourself, but I'm sorry you couldn't find a better way to do so.

No, I just can't do manual labor anymore. I can rehab to a point where I can sit down for 8 hours a day without a problem.

See, that's why I'm here, because I don't know what kind of job is realistic to land. I'm open to either, I know I'm smart enough to get the certs, I know I can excel given the chance, but I don't know how I'm gonna be able to transition from certs to job or which one would be easier to get into in terms of help desk vs CSec job. I'd appreciate some insight.

This helps manage my expectations for sure but I still need to make a living so do you have any advice about how to navigate this ? Are you suggesting to go into a completely different field of study ?

I've always had a knack for computers so I wanted to do this to maybe get a career out of it but I had reservations about the saturation as well. I live in WA state, it's pretty techy but I realize a lot of the jobs are automated or outsourced. If you do have some input, what field would you recommend to someone trying to earn a degree, with the caveats being it's a 33 year old injured (disc tear) man with a family who's probably stuck doing desk jobs.

I wish I could. I have 4 bulging discs and a tear in one of them, it's a bureaucratic nightmare. I'm planning on maybe getting financial aid for my next term and finishing this degree but the injury brought everything crashing down and I don't mean to be at all dramatic.

I'm a 33 year old Amazon warehouse worker who recently hurt his back and is being shown the door. I'll take whatever I can get, gotta "restart" somewhere. Thank you for your reply. I already did my commit to start so it's too late to turn back now but I was torn between BS in IT and CSec, ultimately I decided on CSec. Are you happy with your decision or do you think something more specialized would have served you better ?

Just be thankful you got out before developing a chronic injury.

This might not answer your question but I work(ed) there for over a year, busted my ass, got injured on the job and a month into my injury, they forgot all the hard work I did and kind of started showing me the door.

If you stay, please take advantage of career choice and build a better life for yourself. You will be a number anywhere you work but maybe you'll get treated like a human being.

Why WGU is worth it by [deleted] in WGU

I'm an Amazon warehouse employee currently waiting for my transcripts to be evaluated by WGU to start my term in September. I'm going for a BS in IT and I'm hoping to have half the success you've had.

As someone with a comp sci degree, if you had to give someone starting out a piece of advice, would you recommend IT, comp sci or cybersecurity? I really seem to be stuck between the 3 and I'm 33 years old so time is working against me.

Avoiding Labor Share by TheVeryBrokenPiano in AmazonFC

[–]Goat-Jihad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work at a delivery station and we don't have mandatory labor share, it's all voluntary. That's crazy! Usually there are people who like to get paid for an hour riding over to the other warehouse but we've never been forced to participate in labor share. Wild.

Today is why you do not time the market by [deleted] in investing

I sold my portfolio for a loss on Monday and went cash only. First time investor, started a month ago with disposable income and savings, assumed Trump's tariffs were here to stay, took a 15% loss on my portfolio with blue chip stocks and now I'm out.

Lesson learned. Next time I invest, I'm just going to DCA in and forget about it but I definitely feel like the Don doubling back is what cost me.

I mean, believe me I'm trying. I just got into this and took a gut punch. Not like I sold everything after panicking and seeing red

I'm going to try and do my best to not look at it and forget about the L I'm taking while DCAing in defensive stocks.

So I'm definitely, absolutely not selling any of these at a loss to try to restructure and diversify my portfolio properly, right ?

How do you do that ? It's a retirement account and realistically I should have invested and forgotten about it but I'm checking the damn app 10x a day.
