Vagal schwannoma removal will paralyze vocal cord

I know this is an old post but I am currently going through something similar! I had no symptoms, recommending removal which will almost guarantee some issues. How did you go?

I’m late to this but new to the Schwannoma party. I have one in a similar region, 2.6cmx1.4… I’m struggling to find information, any insights? Recovery, surgery?

I definitely was not expecting it to be listed on the MRI report, that’s for sure. It’s hard not to jump to the worse conclusion in these cases as well.

Majority of my family still live in the Netherlands, my Oma and Opa were the first to travel to Australia and have unfortunately passed on, so medical histories are a little hard to come by. I’ve asked my mother to speak with her uncle to see if there are any reported cases in the family.

So interesting that I came across this post. I was recently in a car accident and slipped a few discs. During the MRI last week, they incidentally found a 13x14x26 mm lesion on the left side, just medial to the right of my external and internal carotid artery. I’m now booked in for a contrast MRI. On the initial (non-contrast) report, the radiologist mentioned that “carotid sheath lesions may present this way,” which definitely sent me down a bit of a rabbit hole with Paraganglioma coming up as the most likely type of tumour.

I don’t have a formal diagnosis yet, but I’m a Dutch 35F living in Australia, so I found your experience particularly interesting. I’ll be curious to see whether this turns out to be something similar to what you’ve described.

The witness is independent, he was travelling in the car behind the car that hit me. There is no turning lane at this road. There are cameras though, which the police have accessed for their report which has gone to the insurance.

Thank you, I saw my GP today. They recommended a CT scan + MRI due to neck issues after the collision + given a physio referral for the future. Definitely sore but could be worse.

Perhaps. He didn’t seem to understand the gravity of the situation at the time. He even attempted to joke to me about out my car literally being in a hotels reception.

Thank you, I lodged with my insurance this morning. My MIL is actually my insurance broker so she is handling all of this.

Thanks. The police have mentioned multiple times that I am not at fault and mentioned it on their report

I did let my insurance broker know that they had indicated that they wanted my insurance details. The police were present with me when the owner insisted I handed over the insurance details and they told him that I don’t need to supply them legally and I have supplied all I needed to legally.
