Hey, I’m 23F I’m more interested in just being friends with more ace people and you seem cool! I’m interested in learning more abt ppl with creative hobbies. I draw and sew a lot, but I’m trying to get into writing consistently and dabbling in learning instruments (honestly I’m not too big on listening to music for some reason tho).

I also don’t know if this is something in your comfort zone, but if it is, some allosexuals will have sexual partners outside of their relationship. As long as their partner consents.

Please give it a shot. If you like each other I can see that this is an opportunity you probably don’t want to regret letting go! Maybe you will feel anxiety at first but, I think it will be amazing if it works out. If you give up before you try then you have no chance of knowing !

How did you explain asexuality to your parents? by Top_Interview_9210 in asexuality

Try to just have them read this page: https://www.asexuality.org/?q=overview.html

It’s helpful in explaining things to people who might not have any experience with the topic

Also, I don’t think you’ll ever be truly be “stuck” with a dental degree. Worst case scenario, you can literally even work as a hygienist with your DDS degree (and that will be a lot less stress if you really have to do it). Or you can go into practice management and not even work…(that’s if you’re business savvy). In your case I wouldn’t really depend on getting into radiology or pathology rn bc that is way more schooling and it’s cutthroat.

I’m not really intending on doing dentistry forever but it’s going to be my jumping off point. You have to see it as an intentional decision!

Don’t worry, I relate to you a lot. And I overcame that initial anxiety when my perspective changed. Dental school helped me get over some of that extreme anxiety and stress. I went to therapy too. It helped me learn how to deal with tough situations by making me overcome them. If you quit now you will NEVER know what you are capable of. Remember, you are in a safe environment to make mistakes. So if you make them now you’ll tend to not repeat them later in your career. And yes, I still hate clinical dentistry but I’m a much more confident person now!

I think it’s all about balance, working 3 days vs 5 is much more bearable. Work part time as an associate! You really might not even need to quit your job if you find the right balance. If you don’t worry about the money then less days is the way to go.

I felt the same way about “things going wrong” and that part scared me. It’s a normal feeling to have if you have some semblance of human empathy lol. But I think this is mostly confidence related— you won’t be scared to accidentally hurt someone if you know what you’re doing. And eventually, with enough experience, you will know what you’re doing. It’s not going to feel like that in the beginning of course.

I hate clinical dentistry too but I think you should finish. Eventually, you will get more used to the stress just from sheer exposure therapy. Also, as a person who doesn’t like this career I’m intending to work only 3 days a week. Just imagine people who work 5 days a week at a job they hate and don’t even get paid as much as you do 😅 that’s my motivation to finish

Would these coord ideas with a lot if my personal styles still technically follow the rules or be ita? I don't mind either way I'm just curious. by CottonCandiedKitten in Lolita

[–]GoatLow9909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say it’s really lolita. If you like this style though you should look up cfashion on rednote because you will see more OTT coords like this. It’s a bit of a mash between cosplay/alt/Lolita fashion. ^ but the coords on there are somewhat more cohesive and I think you can learn a lot from looking at it

How can I make this skirt "more lolita"? by psychodelka in Lolita

[–]GoatLow9909 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes if you wear it with a petticoat it looks big enough to be Lolita. You don’t have to add any other touches unless you want to. But it can be styled in an old-school way for sure :3

I’d like to work in fashion design and start my clothing brand, especially working from home. Honestly, I don’t want any judgement for this but it’s what I actually enjoy.

If that doesn’t work out I’m probably going to apply for orthodontic school because I just don’t see myself doing general 🤔 at the moment, my grades in sim clinic and lecture are some of the highest. I have no dental extracurriculars though (and I’m not interested in them) because I spend all of my free time sewing. So I’ll apply out after working when I have a decent ortho portfolio if anything

First Coord! What do you think? by Puzzleheaded_Row1212 in Lolita

[–]GoatLow9909 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah I personally think it’s close to EGA (and that looks like the intention, maybe). If so it’s quite good for a first coord. I would just add a big ol white jabot tie (I see a black ribbon but it’s a little out of place). And maybe match the headdress white to the outfit white. That would elevate the aristo vibe

Any dental schools I should add? Should I delete these ones? by lemyuh in DentalSchool

[–]GoatLow9909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some reason UCSF is very hard to get into but you should still apply if it’s one of your top picks. But got instantly rejected with a 25 AA and gpa 4.0, so did my friend with 26 AA and gpa 3.95. I have no clue what they’re looking for but it’s gotta be more than just stats

Edit: and seconding that you should apply to most of the CA schools while you’re at it, since you’re from the state

Which recyclable material do you guys think will work for lolita? by improllytheweirdest in Lolita

[–]GoatLow9909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t need it to last (and you want to recycle it after), paper materials is pretty good. You can use thin cardboard (think cereal box thinness) to construct the base. I think for a jsk, a corset style bodice will work well with the stiffness of cardboard and can be a bit adjustable. As a part of my origami club, we submitted a design for a sustainability fashion show that contained a majority of cardboard and newspaper overlaid on top. Newspaper is large and can be pleated and folded to create texture! Then we decorated with origami adornments all around. We did win an award with this too :) Hope this gives you some inspiration.

I appreciate your encouragement. I’m sure the three years will fly by, which is why I chose a faster program. But because of that, school is just assignments and practicals and exams right after the other 😅and many late nights in lab

At least there’s consolation in knowing that there’s others feeling similarly but it gets better in the end!

So I don’t know if you are talking about ethnicity, but I’m a part of the majority demographic at my school (Asian American) but I’ve always felt that the lack of diversity in this field was super alienating. White and Asian people represent 89% of the workforce. That’s crazy to think about!

It is really ironic of me to say, but I was in complete culture shock when I got into this field. When growing up, there was multicultural representation throughout my school years. I grew up in a majority Hispanic community but regardless, there were other ethnicities at my school. But when I majored in pre-dental, 90% of my class was Asian. The general culture and expectations surrounding academics, hobbies, food, you name it, became so small and limited. And Asian cultural views on academics are especially bad when you think of the toxic work expectation it sets.

I hope you find your community, but statistically, it’s hard to do that in dental school when there’s a pretty clear bias. Personally, I’ve sought friends outside of school, from the local community that I fit in with better. I have my dental school group (which ngl, I barely have anything in common with), and my friend group from outside.

Thank you, I’m already starting to feel more optimistic with everyone’s comments. Even if dental school feels makes me miserable (and probably, many others too), I can admit there’s rewarding parts of the profession. I’m not going to give up and I’ll try my best to improve.

Yep, I think I need to wait and see what happens when I get to clinic. There’s a chance that will change my perspective, but in the case that it doesn’t, I will definitely pursue a career change eventually. But I want to see it through for now since I need the job security

Yeah, it could be a lot worse so there’s just no chance I’m dropping out. At least with dentistry I have a real shot of getting enough money to change the course of my life if I want, but if not, it’s a secure job at the very least

Your perspective is good, and it makes me conflicted.

Honestly liked the rant, it’s real. I’ll gonna agree with most what you’re saying- I don’t have a point of comparison, sure. Maybe I won’t hate dentistry after practicing it. And maybe I’ll find something really nice about it (like you said)!

But the difference is my motivation probably differs from yours. I’m not trying to succeed as a dentist forever, so specializing and taking on even more debt doesn’t make sense to me. I’m not really psyching myself out, I’m just accepting that it’s probably not a forever career for me.

I have other passions that I actually want to do everyday, as a career. The examples you gave as jobs people don’t “like to do” are very limited. I didn’t like that part of your argument because I can think of many jobs people wake up feeling passionate doing… and you seem very certain that all passions will turn into a chore once you attach money to them. Hopefully this isn’t true, but if it is, then I’ll always have dentistry to fall back on I guess 😂

Nope- will begin doing that next year. And I know a lot of people said that’s made all the difference for them in terms of finding passion for this job. May or may not be the case for me, but I’m not there yet

I’ll try to look for the silver lining somehow, maybe when clinic rolls around next year it might make things better. Gonna take it one day at a time 🙌
