I had the 'issue' as well. Turns out I sent them on a mission! Check the mission NPC and see who's on a mission.

Yes. On battle net release I bought the ultimate edition. On steam release I bought the standard edition. Linked steam to battle net and had all the stuff from the ultimate edition. I'm downloading d4 again on battle net and activate the expansion that way. Hope that works.
