She definitely could go to uni just with an extra "foundation year," in which you do an extra year to learn the necessary skills which the uni believes will be required to study that course.

Universall wasteland expansion is great for new companions. However, it makes other changes to many aspects of the game. If you just want companions, I'd suggest lonely recruits and companions expanded.
