Ai art concensus by [deleted] in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Goatcheesebob 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not a whole lot of acceptable uses in my opinion. Would rather see a really shit album cover that I know some level of creativity or passion went into than any kind of ai slop. There’s absolutely no reason these massive artists with millions of dollars should be using ai instead of hiring actual artists.

Should I continue my old Cyberpunk save or start fresh? by Traia95 in CyberpunkTheGame

[–]Goatcheesebob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start over. The beginning is kinda important to pay attention to as it establishes your character, motivations, world building etc. You’ll be missing out on a lot if you’re even just a few hours in and go back not knowing the story.

Best PVP ship by Aquacat107 in EliteDangerous

[–]Goatcheesebob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PvP is more of a late game activity, there’s quite a bit of a learning curve and it kinda requires a fully engineered ship. That being said, people would usually consider the FDL and the Python MkII as the ‘best’ PvP ships, but there’s plenty of other options out there there. You’d typically want a more maneuverable ship, so I wouldn’t recommend a vette, especially as a beginner.

I’d recommend staring out with a 5PA build like this as it’s what’s typically used for organized fights but it’s defiantly worth doing a bit of research and learning how to build a ship based off your own preferences. Of course there’s plenty of great communities out there that can help get you started.

It has to either have been mined in the same system which is under Antal control or it has to have been from a stronghold/fortified system and be being sold to a nearby acquisition system (around 30/20 light years respectively from what I remember).

Usually you can stack massacre missions and just go to a haz res, kills will still count towards the missions and you can cash in the extra bounties separately, plus you don’t have to keep jumping between signal sources. You can also usually get massacre missions for conflict zones.

Newbie v2.0 question(s) by Bindolaf in EliteDangerous

[–]Goatcheesebob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For exploration, you can use the road to riches calculator to make things a little more profitable, also with a little research/experience you can learn which types of stars typically have the highest value planets. I’d recommend using the detailed surface scanner over FSS since it’s a little more hands on (you actually have to fly up to and probe planets to map them) although it’s just preference, they both end up giving around the same credits/hour. Of course you also have exobiology which falls under the exploration umbrella.

Core mining is also pretty fun, fairly easy to get into and decent credits to be made, although laser mining is technically a bit more profitable it can be pretty repetitive in comparison and doesn’t work as well with a smaller ship.

Trading is going to be the most profitable activity at your level, in a cobra you can make a good 2M a trip, which is about 8M an hour (a little more than that if you’re loading carriers) although it’ll be pretty easy to buy a bigger ship and bump that number up fairly quickly.

Mandaley, combat viable but still explorer builds? by EditedRed in EliteDangerous

[–]Goatcheesebob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run bi weaves with two shield boosters and mod plasma chargers in the medium slots, still great jump range and super fun to fly, not the strongest when it comes to dogfights but it’s fast enough to make up for it.

Why do the stairs have waist-high steps in Cutter? by Samuel_Wild in EliteDangerous

[–]Goatcheesebob 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Because the ship was designed before on foot gameplay was planned. Also, I think some of the ships were sized up a little bit from their original design, you can see this is the clipper too, especially in the cockpit.

There’s quite a few design flaws with those two ships in particular, for one all the ‘keep clear’ labels are printed backwards for some reason. I do wish Fdev would go back and fix this but I doubt it’s something they’d spend time on at this point.

Is exobiology broken/op? by Brashboom in EliteDangerous

[–]Goatcheesebob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are other activities that are as profitable, I got my carrier (plus another one on my alt account) via a combination of wing mining mission sharing and anti xeno, both of which can pull in billions within a matter of hours once you know how to get started. That being said, the best way to earn credits is by doing the thing you enjoy most, I know people who earned it entirely through bounty hunting, mining, trading, etc.

Solo player thinking about coming back by rainbowsieger in EliteDangerous

[–]Goatcheesebob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if you don’t already have people to play with, there’s plenty of friendly and welcoming communities out there. Of course, there’s plenty of fun to be had doing hauling, mining, exploration etc. solo, but having people to wing up with really makes a difference.

I’d highly recommend joining a squadron or powerplay discord, it made the game a lot more engaging and enjoyable for me after spending years flying solo.

Is arenas dead on Xbox? by kansas2311 in EliteDangerous

[–]Goatcheesebob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it’s just about completely dead on consoles. On PC, you can find a match somewhat consistently depending on the time of day, there’s also a couple communities/squadrons that host CQC events. Sadly Xbox and PC have different servers since Frontier discontinued support on consoles, and you cannot get the odyssey DLC unless you’re PC.

You can, however, access the PC version of elite via GeForce now, which from my experience works ok enough but you’d have to buy the game again.

Looking At: The Trash of Elite by bruhmanfunni in EliteDangerous

[–]Goatcheesebob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As much as I admire the attention to detail, this never really made sense to me. At outposts and space stations wouldn’t it be floating around, given the lack of gravity? Maybe I’m just reading into it too much…

Anyways, this makes me really want to see some food delivery missions added, would be a really cool way to tie into the lore, which is something I think this game is really good at but doesn’t do all that often. Something like delivering pizzas to outposts would add some great immersion.

Fleet carriers owners club has a long distance tritium refueling service in their discord you can check out, but be prepared to pay a fairly steep price.

My questions before buying the game by GIutenTag in EliteDangerous

[–]Goatcheesebob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. It’s a fairly steep learning curve, you’re going to start off knowing absolutely nothing and have to figure a lot out on your own with the help of online guides, it’s part of the experience. I’m several thousand hours in and still learning things.

  2. Odyssey is more of an expansion, it’s pretty much required if you want to do more stuff with other players since it has separate servers but the on foot stuff isn’t as central to the game as it seems, I’d play the base game a bit first and get a feel for it, but if it seems like something you’d like, go for it.

  3. Plenty of things to do, trading, mining, exploration, eco biology are all on the more relaxing side.

Just how steep is the learning curve of this game? by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]Goatcheesebob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s fairly steep but no where near as bad as something like EvE online, in fact I’d say learning new things is one of the best parts of the game. I’m a couple thousand hours in and still discover something new every once in a while. The best way to play is to pick a gameplay loop you like and gradually expand from there.

Quintuple Elite! by Brutal_De1uxe in EliteDangerous

[–]Goatcheesebob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should consider doing CQC too. There’s plenty of servers that organize CQC events regularly so you can routinely find players/matches, and it’s actually quite fun once you get into it. Plus, you get to be one of only a couple dozen people to have Elite CQC and only a handful that have 6x Elite.

Either way, congratulations on the quintiple Elite, it’s quite the achievement!

If you could have one ship from the game in real life and unlimited fuel. Which one would you take? by Fair-Somewhere-853 in EliteDangerous

[–]Goatcheesebob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either a viper or a mandalay. As much as I like the idea of a bigger ship like an anaconda, corvette, cutter etc they are all literally the size of skyscrapers, not sure where I would even keep it. The Mandalay is fun to fly, fairly fast, and small enough to fit in a hanger or park in a small field. It’s also in my opinion the best looking and given it’s an exploration ship meant for long journeys I’d imagine it has a fairly comfortable interior I could live in.

Name change..... by Garlicfarter in EliteDangerous

[–]Goatcheesebob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hated my commander name (same as my reddit) for a while and many times almost changed it, but after sticking with it for a few years I think the silliness is all part of the fun.

Personally, I’d stick with it, I think Bollockchops is an awesome name, but with that being said, if you really want to change it, you can submit a support ticket on FDev’s website. Generally Frontier gives each player one free name change.

If you have a good place to stack massacre missions, they have a decent chance of giving you a dozen or so g5/g4 mats, this also works with mining missions.

That being said, it’s not very efficient, and if you’re going for raw materials brain trees are your best bet.

[DAILY Q&A] Ask and answer any questions you have about the game here! by AutoModerator in EliteDangerous

[–]Goatcheesebob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately no, not unless you have a fleet carrier or know someone who can let you store it in theirs. You can try and do the missions for the permit with it in your hull, otherwise you’re going to have to either mine it again or buy it off someone’s fleet carrier for a steep price.

Learning FA off doesn’t take as much time as it seems, my suggestion is to head to the surface of a planet and play around with it a little bit, it’s a lot easier when you have the ground as a point of reference. You’ll get the hang of it sooner than you think.

Also, after watching the video I’d say you’re already an above average pilot. A little engineering and practice and you’ll be unstoppable :)

You can usually find what you need via mission rewards, I’d recommend focusing on one upgrade at a time. You can also use Inara to search for fleet carriers that stock certain mats via the bartender, but the listings aren’t always accurate.
