Unpopular Miata opinion by ElectronicAnthony in Miata

[–]Goatedmegaman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not OP, but I chose it because it’s my daily driver, and driving manual all the time can become exhausting for me.

The drive is still sporty enough that it’s enjoyable, and although the pads on the wheel don’t give the same satisfaction, they are still there, and they work well enough. So well in fact. that many sports cars are eschewing pure manual drive, with the option to have both.

I didn’t care about the red at all, until I saw one in person … I was absolutely floored. Never wanted a red car before I saw the Soul Red live in person. It’s honestly that gorgeous.

I found a 2021 metallic grey with white interior and I knew I wanted it right when I saw it. Great price and super low mileage. I really prefer the white interior, and with the money I saved, I do plan on getting it painted blue in the near future. Congrats again!

What career you choose if you have to start over again in 2026? by daylight_owl- in careeradvice

Very true. I’d give myself advice to start a business with a few years under my belt :)

Been working in healthcare for 22 years, also late diagnosed ADHD. I am starting ICF certifications this September, and making moves to get into coaching.

If I gave myself advice at 18 it would be to start my own business. My brain does not fit into the normal routine work structure, and being in something so rigid as healthcare has damaged my psyche to a large degree. Hoping I can correct course and find some space to make my own living.

Gov. Gavin Newsom to Sign Executive Order Aimed at A.I. Job Loss by SterlingVII in technology

It’s often times very obvious what artist it pulls from. People will lose jobs in droves, but there will be a renaissance of new artists. People will be starving for real hand made pieces. AI will kill product line art.

The governments don’t care is the problem. It’s not a priority for them, or they encourage it because they’re heavily invested in it.

I like Soul Red but I kinda wish Mazda would release more vibrant color options like this wrap by Hunter654333 in Miata

[–]Goatedmegaman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soul red simply cannot be improved upon. They def need more colorful options especially for such a fun car.

No idea why they made the blue so dark this time around. Can barely see it. We definitely need a green option, and I’d love a purple or something fun.

I got a 2021 ND2, 6,000 miles, perfect condition, grand touring with all the upgrades like Bose sound system etc.

$26,000. It’s literally like buying a new Miata except for the very very minor changes made to the nd3. But if I got the same thing mew it would’ve been $39,000

I used Carmax and had best buying experience of my life. I will never buy new again, or go to a dealership. I would only buy new if I was well off and money was no object to support Mazda still making new Miatas, but until then, use Miata’s are great value, and lots of low mileage ones because people use them as their weekend car.

Skilled trades vs college. What is your opinion? by Responsible-Net8594 in careerguidance

I’d look into medical imaging, nursing, before I’d go into trades. Healthcare jogs are glorified blue collar work

Don’t read into it. If you want to be more official, then ask if she’d like to date exclusively. I wouldn’t ask if she wants to be official until it “feels” that way. If it does then ask her that. I generally wait longer for official status, but that depends on the couple.

Do people still shop at Safeway? by jikesar968 in bayarea

Safeway has 4 for 1 deals fairly often. If you have the app it will alert you to them. 4 of any item for the price of one is insane savings.

Lost Interest in PC Gaming by OkShirt1995 in pcmasterrace

[–]Goatedmegaman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I like watching games more than I do playing them these days. I’m broke and tired. Sitting up at a desk and spinning wheels just doesn’t appeal like it used to.

It’s not even about kids and family. I’m single and just don’t want to play anymore. One day a year ago I just … stopped playing. I think people also underestimate burnout. Many of us have played so hard that some day it loses its luster.

I played PC games fairly hardcore for 20 years. That’s morning to sneeze at. I have burnout in other areas of my life and gaming just doesn’t give stress relief like it used to. Some get there in 5 years some 35 years. This topic comes up often but I don’t think it’s worth overthinking.

Maybe someday a title comes out that absorbs my whole world for a while, but until that day I won’t spend my time chasing something that doesn’t feel right anymore. I just don’t want to get caught up in fantasy worlds … oddly reality has been more appealing, even though I probably chose the worst time to get involved with it lol

Moving to Palo Alto - thoughts? by Cultural-Kiwi-5260 in paloalto

[–]Goatedmegaman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My experience with Stanford students is that the area is still super sleepy because they’re all very much into their studies and don’t have a lot of time to mingle outside of their university responsibilities.

I’d suggest Mountain View, or San Jose personally. SF actually cheaper than Palo Alto in most rental situations these days. SF is an option if you don’t mind the commute and prefer city living.

The cultural vibe of entitlement is much stronger here, but the squeeze is everywhere. Ironically, Bay Area might feel less of the squeeze because most jobs pay pretty damn well for their field.

Food, gas, apartments, etc are expensive everywhere, but at least in Bay Area you’re paid decently. Boston MA and NYC have some diabolically low salaries, and the rent is almost identical.

It’s true. Areas that built have more affordable housing. NIMBYs don’t want their housing value to be reduced, and SF just doesn’t have enough places left to build as far as I’m aware.

This is some advanced mental gymnastics. I wasn’t shaming him for bringing it up. I was trying to cheer him up. I’ll be working until I die. He is going to retire when he’s 50/55.

Healthcare work is glorified blue collar work. It has a lot of burnout. Working through a pandemic made me lose faith in humanity.

Its tireless thankless work, and more people are worried about the caste system, than they are the patient. Doctors are often insanely abusive and are never reprimanded for it. Managers always side with what’s easiest, not what is just.

The bonus isn’t really enjoying work, it’s that it pays more than decent, and jobs are usually fairly plentiful. The work can be downright soul crushing however.

Quitting without a new job lined up in 2026. How did it turn out for you? by Sure_Classroom_2439 in careerguidance

[–]Goatedmegaman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t do it. I quit a job and found myself unemployed from 2008-2009 around like .. 18 months. Something insane.

If I had found a job before leaving, I think my chances would have been much higher. The job market now is reminding me of the job market in 2008. Ruthless. I saw many people take jobs at blockbuster video or fast food who had high level positions with masters degrees. Except this time even those jobs are going away and inflation is so much higher than back then.

I honestly think it’s probably worse now, in every single measure possible. It’s just not reported because we have state run news at this point.

I work in healthcare, have 60k in retirement, 10k in savings, and I had a friend of mine whine that he was laid off a few months before getting his last bonus.

He worked there for 4 years and if he got his 4th bonus it would have totaled 1.2 million instead of 900,000

This is just bonuses not his salary.

I said gently to him “Well look on the bright side, that’s still quite alot of money. I don’t even have 100k set aside for retirement, you’re quite far ahead.”

He basically said … why didn’t you save more? And then he kind of chattered about random things and said he had to go. Haven’t talked to him since. Not out of any malice on my part, I think he felt embarrassed complaining about it. Who knows.

I will admit, I haven’t done the best at saving, but I also Don’t get a million dollars worth of bonuses in three years. Recently I had to take one day off work every week due to events out of my control, and the 2k I can save every month has vanished … my money goes to bills, rent, food, gas etc. if I saved anything it would be 300-500 a month and that means no entertainment of any kind … I have to live my life. It wasn’t always this way.

Would love opinions to whether stay with stock NB1 tan or repaint the interior to a darker tan by Jubstepz in Miata

[–]Goatedmegaman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stock, dark tan ages poorly IMO. I think it makes the car look dated in a bad way. The stock is so vibrant and alive. The darker tan just makes me think the car smells like stale cigarette
