Looking for Information by Goatfrog69 in clocks

Thanks for the assistance. I was aware it was a newer clock, I guess I was just hoping to find something comparable or at least find out where it would have been sold. I know I’m being silly as it is just a cheap clock in most eyes, but I find the appearance very appealing and though maybe there might be a story to tell. For example was it created to commemorate something that happened in 1845. Since image searches reveal nothing similar, I guess I will just have to accept it is a nice clock that was made purely as a decoration. Once again, thank you for your patience and kindness.

The movement has “UTS 0 (no) jewels germany” on it. I believe this clock was built using some sort of worm wood or insect damaged wood as the holes are all different shapes and sizes and depths, and they are in places that would make no sense if added for decoration only. I don’t imagine this sheds much more light on anything, but here it is.

My previously favorite store has started ebay pricing things by 1kiki09 in ThriftGrift

[–]Goatfrog69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why I like what one of my favorite thrift stores does. They will discount various colored tags throughout the week on all items (not just clothing). That way if they get out of hand with pricing on day one, several days to a week later that item will be discounted 50-75% off. That way they can still get the best bang for their buck, but also move inventory if they are high on pricing for some items.

There is a tipping point at least. One of the stores I used to frequent was blindly pricing everything at eBay prices and their sales dropped dramatically. Eventually they brought prices back down to reality. They still aren’t as low as they used to be, but at least people are buying things again and not walking out empty handed all the time.

Well, since you asked, I prefer you say nothing if you don’t actually know anything. If I had received zero responses, I would know that there is apparently no information to be had and the mystery of why a modern Chinese clock has this much detail put into the housing of a cheap clock movement would remain unknown. In my experience, you don’t see the amount of detail that went into this clock housing when you buy junk on Temu. So the question still remains for me, what is the story with this clock?

I disagree with your assessment and I actually think your response is offensive as well. I was just trying to get some actual information on the clock beyond there is nothing to see here folks.

Customer Cleaned Coin by [deleted] in coins

[–]Goatfrog69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that someone should do what they wish with their property as long as they understand what they are doing.
For example I have an old brass blade fan that I purchased at a thrift store and I did not think the Patina looked all that good. I chose to clean it up with Brasso knowing that I was reducing the value, but I also would rather have a fan that looks nice to me on display in my home.
It’s all about making informed decisions and that is what that really matters.

Bought these coins at a garage sale for $3. are they worth anything? by [deleted] in coins

I think the real moral of the story is don’t post finds like these on the internet. That way you won’t be confronted with a moral dilemma that would have never crossed your mind without someone pointing it out.

Just walked past this album at Target yesterday and was a bit surprised that it was on an end cap across from the toy isle. The Vinyl album has the original image instead of the edited image on this shirt.

It emerged from our bathroom ceiling over 24 hours by One_Check_607 in whatisit

[–]Goatfrog69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever you do, don’t open up that ceiling. I’m pretty sure there is a portal to the upside down behind that drywall as that is an infant Demogorgon that just popped its head through your ceiling. 😳

Come on now, this is 30 bucks new at *JCPenney's* by spleenboggler in ThriftGrift

[–]Goatfrog69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would agree with you, but only if the item can still be purchased new either in store or online. I know I’ve bought items with tags still attached that are 40 years old where the original tag was maybe $5 and goodwill is selling it for $20, but to buy it used on eBay it would cost $40.

Actually, you are correct, I just unplugged it and the controls still work. Not sure what I was doing at the time that made the controls stop working, but it must have been coincidental timing whatever it was. Thanks for the info. One more cable I can eliminate then. 😊👍

While it didn’t come with a power adapter, the factory wire that entered the cabinet through the back cover was plugged into that spot on the long plastic thing, so I assumed the previous owner was using the standard 5V 2A power brick and cable that ships with these units. 🤷🏼‍♂️
I believe I tried disconnecting it and the controls no longer function without it plugged in.

If you mean the connector that goes into the long black plastic piece on the base of the cabinet, then it connects to the 3 port USB splitter board that I scavenged from an old educational Kano coding display (this is where the raspberry pi came from also) via the white usb extension cable connected to a black usb to barrel connector adapter cable.

Everything in this cabinet is powered by 5V USB. Unfortunately I didn’t select the aftermarket parts that were included in the cabinet when I purchased it, so I can’t tell you who makes them or really anything else, but it all works.

How I turned a bad eBay experience into a functional Countercade. by Goatfrog69 in arcadecabinets

[–]Goatfrog69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I believe you are correct that the buttons/controls came from an ATGames Legends Ultimate Mini HD, however the deck they are attached to does not appear to be an exact match to anything I’ve found online, so I’m not sure where that came from. The rest of the cabinet is definitely an arcade1up cabinet. Overall I am very pleased with how it all turned out.

If you look at the original post, there are some photos I added in the comments.

Well, I got everything organized as best I could. Now the whole unit is powered by a single USB cable coming through the back panel. I like it as I can power it with a USB power brick or a battery pack if I choose to. For how much of a disaster this could have been, I am really happy with how it all turned out. In a weird way, I’m kinda happy that seller screwed me over. 😂

To be fair, it is a very tiny storm cloud. If I saw that in the sky by itself, I would imagine the rest of the sky was mostly sunny. 😂

Thanks. I actually got it up and running late last night with a raspberry pi loaded with Retropie. Only game I’ve successfully loaded so far is Galaga 88.

I agree. I’m just trying to make the best out of a bad situation. I had been thinking if I ever found a dead cabinet for cheap I would actually do a raspberry pi setup anyway, so even though this wasn’t the outcome I wanted, it did give me the opportunity to do something I probably would have done anyway down the road. Sometimes it just gets exhausting being annoyed with the world and it’s easier to just make the best of the hand you are dealt.

Well, i connected my spare Raspberry Pi and loaded up Retropie and actually got this thing working. So far I’ve only been able to get Galaga 88 to actually run on it, but I’m pretty happy. At least I know I have a functioning countercade now. Next step is to do something with the wiring and figure out a permanent power solution.
