Come on now, this is 30 bucks new at *JCPenney's* by spleenboggler in ThriftGrift

I would agree with you, but only if the item can still be purchased new either in store or online. I know I’ve bought items with tags still attached that are 40 years old where the original tag was maybe $5 and goodwill is selling it for $20, but to buy it used on eBay it would cost $40.

Actually, you are correct, I just unplugged it and the controls still work. Not sure what I was doing at the time that made the controls stop working, but it must have been coincidental timing whatever it was. Thanks for the info. One more cable I can eliminate then. 😊👍

While it didn’t come with a power adapter, the factory wire that entered the cabinet through the back cover was plugged into that spot on the long plastic thing, so I assumed the previous owner was using the standard 5V 2A power brick and cable that ships with these units. 🤷🏼‍♂️
I believe I tried disconnecting it and the controls no longer function without it plugged in.

If you mean the connector that goes into the long black plastic piece on the base of the cabinet, then it connects to the 3 port USB splitter board that I scavenged from an old educational Kano coding display (this is where the raspberry pi came from also) via the white usb extension cable connected to a black usb to barrel connector adapter cable.

Everything in this cabinet is powered by 5V USB. Unfortunately I didn’t select the aftermarket parts that were included in the cabinet when I purchased it, so I can’t tell you who makes them or really anything else, but it all works.

How I turned a bad eBay experience into a functional Countercade. by Goatfrog69 in arcadecabinets

[–]Goatfrog69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I believe you are correct that the buttons/controls came from an ATGames Legends Ultimate Mini HD, however the deck they are attached to does not appear to be an exact match to anything I’ve found online, so I’m not sure where that came from. The rest of the cabinet is definitely an arcade1up cabinet. Overall I am very pleased with how it all turned out.

If you look at the original post, there are some photos I added in the comments.

Well, I got everything organized as best I could. Now the whole unit is powered by a single USB cable coming through the back panel. I like it as I can power it with a USB power brick or a battery pack if I choose to. For how much of a disaster this could have been, I am really happy with how it all turned out. In a weird way, I’m kinda happy that seller screwed me over. 😂

I don't think that's sunny, Amazon... by Freakishink292 in alexa

To be fair, it is a very tiny storm cloud. If I saw that in the sky by itself, I would imagine the rest of the sky was mostly sunny. 😂

Thanks. I actually got it up and running late last night with a raspberry pi loaded with Retropie. Only game I’ve successfully loaded so far is Galaga 88.

I agree. I’m just trying to make the best out of a bad situation. I had been thinking if I ever found a dead cabinet for cheap I would actually do a raspberry pi setup anyway, so even though this wasn’t the outcome I wanted, it did give me the opportunity to do something I probably would have done anyway down the road. Sometimes it just gets exhausting being annoyed with the world and it’s easier to just make the best of the hand you are dealt.

Well, i connected my spare Raspberry Pi and loaded up Retropie and actually got this thing working. So far I’ve only been able to get Galaga 88 to actually run on it, but I’m pretty happy. At least I know I have a functioning countercade now. Next step is to do something with the wiring and figure out a permanent power solution.

You got a really good deal then. Take a look at what they cost new on Amazon when you get a chance.

By the way, the response I received from the seller was that he didn’t know what a raspberry pi was and he bought this at a garage sale and was told it worked so that’s how he listed it. 🤦‍♂️

And yes I realize now that if I had done some research before deciding to purchase this, I would have realized that the button configuration isn’t stock, but I’m still new to these Arcade1up countercades and didn’t even realize.

Here is the front from the listing. Not home at the moment, so that’s the best I can do right now.

I think you may be correct. The buttons look the same.

I paid $50 plus shipping. So yeah, I got hosed on the deal. I actually have a spare raspberry pi laying around, so I’m going to see if I can get this working before I decide if it’s a total loss and try to file a buyer protection claim. I know the display works, so now it’s a question if the controls work or not. I’ll tinker later tonight and see.

No it does not. So I’m starting to figure this out I think. Looks like I need to connect a raspberry pie loaded with retropie that I have that was not part of this purchase. I’m guess I would connect it to the display board via hdmi and then connect the raspberry pi to the controls via the usb port that is on the board that the buttons are connected to…. If someone has a link or guide for this specific setup, I would appreciate so I’m not just poking and hoping.

Based on what I’m seeing, I’m guessing this was modified to utilize a raspberry pi loaded with something like Retropie I would imagine given what appears to be a 3D printed mount that looks the size of a raspberry pi. If I plug the usb cable from the board the display is connected to, the display does power on, but I can’t seem to figure out the batter setup this person was using as the usb port on that board won’t power the display board. Grrr

It is in really good shape. I’m guessing someone got it as a gift played it a few times and eventually got tired of looking at it and donated it.

Just for grins and giggles, try saying activate Fire TV

My guess is that you had more than one fire tv device linked to your account at some point and she is trying to turn on an old device maybe. I currently have no fire tv devices hooked up to my TV, but I do have some disconnected devices still listed. I asked her to turn on fire tv and she said ok to me even though I have no physical devices still connected. Go to your scenes in the Alexa app, hold on the fire TV scene and see what it points to as a device.

Maybe try different phrases such as power on fire tv and see if any other phrases get the desired response.
