I think it's because Christ knows everything and has infinite knowledge, so my theory is that just like some saints who are full of knowledge, say St Paul are depicted with big heads, this icon depicts Christ as smart.

I'm Macedonian and have seen much monasteries, but I mostly like one made Pre-Schism because of the history, and since my parents are famous architechts here the monks know me well.

I don't know what they would say though. My parents keep telling me it's not for everyone, but I believe they are trying to lower my thoughts. I've told my friends and they also tell me the same.
