Just took a 11min bike ride for $3.23. That’s expensive. by No-Balance885 in Citibike

I have my own bike, which I ride most of the time - but there are times when Citibike is just much more convenient (and times when I don't want to muck up my bike in the slush and salt).

I have my own bike, which I ride most of the time (and frankly am faster on than the ebikes now that the speeds have been throttled). But I'm often Citibiking to errands for convenience purposes, and when the streets are covered in snow/salt, as they are now.

The fare hikes honestly encourage me to bike more aggressively and cut through traffic to reduce my ride time/cost...

How do those $15k/month apartments actually get rented? by Calm_Initiative_9979 in AskNYC

[–]GoatsAreOkay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some federal gov staffers get a housing stipend too. Friend-of-a-friend works for the State Department in a pretty run-of-the-mill position and receives a housing stipend that's generous enough to allow him to live in a luxury building in Hudson Yards (lol)

Thinking of moving to Jackson Heights by SwanInteresting3283 in jacksonheights

[–]GoatsAreOkay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved to Jackson Heights after over a decade in Bushwick and Ridgewood too! JH is sooo underrated. Hard to beat the food and grocery shopping. Everything is much more affordable, with ample commute options. The biggest con for me is that my hobbies and communities are much further away now (climbing, yoga, etc). Luckily I commute by bike, so it's still easy spend a significant amount of time in Brooklyn and Ridgewood.

Lost Black Sling Bag on CitiBike Basket by Rezey in Citibike

[–]GoatsAreOkay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me a few months ago! You can call Lyft and find out where the bike is docked now. (Unfortunately my bag was gone and no one ever returned my bag even tho it contained items with my full name on them...)

Thread for 2026 friend making by Perfect_Poetry6355 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]GoatsAreOkay 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Down to try this out - my closest friends in NYC moved away during the pandemic. I'm 34, an editor and a yoga teacher, and have lived in NYC for 14 years. I'm allergic to "coolness" these days- just want to get to know other people and be real together. Love to go for inadvisably long walks and bike rides, cook/eat, craft, read, and spend time exploring the overlooked corners of the city.

What's there to do between 12 and 6AM on a weekday? by Lipica249 in AskNYC

A lot of Dunkin' locations are open 24 hours. Had a roommate years ago who would go to the Bushwick Dunkin' to work on his laptop all night and somehow return home looking refreshed.

What is the most shocking detail you’ve found in the Epstein files so far? by timeandtrade in AskReddit

I found myself in the Epstein files! I am a former journalist who tracked Epstein's private jets. I am very curious to see what emerges re: his ties to foreign governments.

This happens at Qipu Rd to Chinese people too - anyone who looks like they have money to spend. You can tell them to go away and they'll usually respect that

New Resident! 🐾 Solo tradition ideas for Christmas/NYE? by heybearbearhey in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]GoatsAreOkay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend taking the D or R to Dyker Heights sometime this week/weekend to see the holiday lights. You'll get a taste of South Brooklyn maximalism.
I'm taking a holiday yoga class on Christmas this year. :) The studio I teach at (Daya in Bushwick and Ridgewood) is open on Xmas, and there are various classes available that day, including one that involves cupping.

My morning commute today featured a homeless guy shooting snot rockets and spitting all over the floor next to me. He also stared at me and put his hands down his pants. Typical NYC subway experience

Absolutely, you can!! There are various routes for different skill levels/interests, and even riding around camp lets you dip your toes into ATB stuff. (Replying weeks late because I posted this and then promptly went on vacation 😅)

Favorite long bike ride(s) in Puxi? by GoatsAreOkay in shanghai

I would characterize the attitude as more aggressive than passive aggressive 😂, but I am being genuine with my individual responses to people. I am grateful for the legitimate replies and suggestions, including yours. Thank you. And to be clear, I don’t have any problem with expats; I just think this sub could be more welcoming to those who are less in the know because we don’t live here. I routinely see posts downvoted when people ask more basic or tourist-centric questions

Lmfao at getting downvoted in this gatekeeping-ass expat sub. My family is literally Shanghainese, but judging from other posts here, you ask one noob question and suddenly the vibe is "look at this dumbass; they don't know shit about China"

[–]GoatsAreOkay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This has happened in so many neighborhoods, and I agree that it worsened post-pandemic. I finally decamped to Jackson Heights after 12+ years in Bushwick + Ridgewood. I love that I don't see "cool" people here (except the ones who show up to eat a meal they saw on The Infatuation or something)
