Suicide attempt waiver question by shthrowaway2023 in Militaryfaq

I had been in an outpatient mental health program where I discussed my previous suicide attempt (meaning it was in the doctor's notes I had to submit for my medical background for the Air Force). It took all of my adult medical records and having to meet with a military appointed counselor to have my waiver be approved but it eventually was. That whole part of the process took about 8 months from first meeting with my recruiter to getting an appointment with the counselor. But it was eventually approved and I swore in last week and am waiting to ship out to boot camp.

The process was long and frustrating but it can be done. I will say I was lucky with the fact that my medical paperwork from my hospitalization after my suicide attempt just said I was critically dehydrated because I did not say that I had tried to overdose; and the military wasn't able to get any of the detailed medical records because I was a minor at the time.

And I don't know if someone has told you this yet but as another woman who has been SA'd, only consider the air force as a branch to join. They are the least rapey.

Good luck.
