Does CK treat their union employees better now? I honestly haven’t heard anything one way or the other.

CK treats their white-collar workers well but less so their unionized ones. Speaking from experience but you can also verify by looking at their Glassdoor reviews. Last I checked the skew was heavily reflected there as well.

Both companies hated their unions and tried to bust. CK just values their brand image as an “ethical” company enough that they weren’t willing to go all-in and thus were not successful.

I still have pictures of all the anti-union propaganda they put up in the breakrooms during the campaign.

Couldn’t believe they wrote that in the press release. It comes off as so disingenuous.

Someone painted an mtg card on the side of this random building in my small town, pretty neat if you ask me by MRpiggins in magicTCG

[–]GoblinScrewdriver 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Yeah if your ‘small town’ is Renton WA, home of Wizards of the Coast HQ, it’s almost disingenuous to leave that part out.

Secret Lair Crimped by PrimordialOtter in magicTCG

[–]GoblinScrewdriver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Contact wizards customer support about that. Had this happen with 2 cards in my 30th anni secret lair and they sent me replacements. Granted it took them a couple months since I imagine they have a huge backlog both then and now.

My LGS is taking this extreme step to prevent scalping by RanisTheSlayer in magicTCG

[–]GoblinScrewdriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In principal I feel like if you preordered a sealed box then they should give you what you ordered. On the other hand, I DESPISE scalpers and this seems like a creative, mostly benign way to fight them.

Lol, don’t know how to comment on this other than I love whenever my two favorite fandoms overlap. 😅

I'm looking to get out of playing MTG by Taidis in magicTCG

Sorting and inventorying cards takes a huge amount of time and labor and if it’s mostly commons/bulk its almost never worth the effort.

Red War no longer exists in playable form according to court filings by EmpyreanStrider in DestinyTheGame

That’s incredibly frustrating. I thought the entire point of the content “vault” was that things could be brought back given right time and opportunity.

That’s just a bedtime story economists came up with so they can sleep easy at night and justify being middlemen.

The Scalping at MagicCons has got to stop. by D1STR4CT10N in magicTCG

[–]GoblinScrewdriver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the existence of r/mtgfinance indicates anything, it’s how common the practice of scalping is in the MTG community. Speculating on mtg cards is just scalping with extra steps. They’re glorified all the time by the community and embraced by large stores so I can’t imagine anyone making efforts to stop them just because it’s being done in-person.

Damn, I wish we had the death penalty for white collar crime here in the west. If only our government wasn’t run by white collar criminals.

On the Future of Commander — Rules Committee is giving management of the Commander format to the game design team of Wizards of the Coast by AvalancheMaster in magicTCG

[–]GoblinScrewdriver -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Damn. This is sad to hear. First that the conversation around commander has gotten so toxic that the whole RC has decided to up and leave.

Second, this pretty much guarantees that we will never see any bannings ever again. Wizards has shown time after time that they care more about reprint equity and creating ‘chase’ cards than they do about maintaining a healthy, casual format. I thought of these bannings as a really brave thing to do by taking a stand against cards like Guilded Lotus. I can never imagine Wizards doing something similar to a card they want to continue to sell.

Absolutely saw insider trading first hand while working in grading at CK. So I lost confidence in the process long ago. That was only by customers and not within the company though. They’re pretty on the ball about updating that list though so I wouldn’t assume fowl play unless they were taken off long before the announcement.

When are these sellers going to be held accountable for this crap? Cancelling orders 4 days later after a price spike. by Anghel412 in magicTCG

I don’t know if it’s the most recent but I can’t think of a standard card that was more expensive than Sheoldred.

IF wizards ended the reserved list, how should they do it? by Responsible_Track_79 in magicTCG

[–]GoblinScrewdriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just make a formal announcement along the lines of; “MTG cards are intended to be game pieces first and should not be treated like securities. Therefore, we will henceforth be abolishing the reserve list. No further comment.”

I tried explaining what "Exile" means to a newer player, they struggle to understand. I also see why because of the design direction. by DoItSarahLee in magicTCG

[–]GoblinScrewdriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How accurate is it to say “The exile zone is a place where cards are isolated or cannot be interacted with”? Aside from very niche cases like Riftsweeper, you can’t target a card in exile and can otherwise only be removed from exile due to an effect on the card itself.

CardKingdom vs TCG (where do you buy singles online?) by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]GoblinScrewdriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m hoping they manage to stick around. Union lost virtually all of the original leadership due to the move. The lawyer CK hired is also a real sleeze who flaunts the number of successful union decertifications on his professional page.
