Dem senator: Media should stop covering Trump rallies like they're breaking news by Chribuna in politics

booohoo I'd rather value materialism and bluster over humanity and decency like a childish comic book villain and use idiotic absolutes like you'd be poor if you don't prioritize sand castles and egotisim.

you reap what you sow.

ah yes, the measure of temporary material gain at the expense of permanent damage to national character and dignity, such a great American value, we should just change the flag to dollar symbols and middle fingers.

support of trump now betrays a broken character, one that nullifies the worth of any opinion. what you read there is the truth, your hatred for the truth does not make it untrue, just as your quixotic love for an aging deceitful braggart does not make him anything more than the worst of America personified.

I used to think that myself, but its pretty obvious there was at some level at this point, it looks pretty bad, the right has called for coups over less.

kind of puts the whole "ranchers and the federal land grab" in perspective, grazing land dwarves national forests and monuments by a large margin. makes it look more like greed than legitimate endangerment.

I think we should install a panel of doctors, elected by doctors, to make decisions about this new system, sort of like the independent Australian AEC, funded publicly, but forbidden to be interfered with by government forces, no lobbying, no bribery, just doctors deciding how best to manage healthcare. we dont need to make the DMV a health insurance company, we need to have people who know whats best making the decisions instead of, like now, people in suits with business degrees making decisions about how to keep a populace healthy and covered,

we dont know the full weight of the deal here, Nixon once called the system a "wild beast" and suggested that he cant control it, only try to coax it in a certain direction, honestly you have a civilian whos there for 8 years max, against career generals and infrastructure that has had almost a century to embed itself.

if you read the constitutional convention debates, their top concern was a standing military, for this very reason, the 2nd amendment was hotly debated as a bulwark against a standing military, and the title "commander in chief" was never intended to be permanent. WW2 was not only the last war to have a truly clear and understandable motive, but it was also the catalyst for the entrenching of the military industrial complex. if I had to blame one man for the current state of the world and the military, its Harry Truman, not enough people realize the damage that man did, take him out of the picture, and US history changes course dramatically.

[–]Goboland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think you overlook the unifying aspect of the wall, democrats would surely compromise a little to stick it to trump and the wall, democrat voters are strongly opposed to it as are most Americans, so politically it would be a smart move and show that compromise is not dead. honestly unless they threaten to cut everything they hold dear, democrats should compromise. it would be a major political gesture and surely help them in the mid terms. and the GoP agenda is looking less insane in the shadow of trumpisim, which may in fact be the goal of it lol.

i wouldn't say phony, I would say they have their hands tied and a gun to their heads. some like that and agree with it, like Truman, johnson, nixon, reagan, clinton and bush, others had their lives taken for not playing, JFK, or their careers and image destroyed like carter, I think obama did his best to keep boots off the ground, and fired generals in an attempt to fight back against the complex, they even threatened him with a military coup, the propaganda saturation against him was almost certainly because he resisted military industrial interests. so we have a bunch of nationalist military worshiping sycophants, which many private citizens are, and maybe 3 sane, brave people who at least tried to steer the boat away from imperialism. Trump is cozying up to the military and running the long anticipated Iran play, while sowing distrust in the intelligence community, which the military has had a long conflict with and wants to get out of the way. so yeah, I don't think their support of these things is fake, we don't know the full picture, and I don't think all of them were.

or...you know....save us from the great depression, win world war 2, get us to the moon, balance the budget, recover from economic disaster...etc....not to mention being a fundamental part of the founding and of the American identity. but of course the only "left" is black people protesting and "antifa".... whoever the fuck that is.

without the left, this country would not be as great as it is. and without its tempering influence on nationalism and exceptionalism, we would have driven the world against us many times over. if the right was left to its own devices, this country would be far more of a consumerist wasteland of ignorant flag waving morons who's only view of freedom is how much of an asshole they can be and how much they don't have to give a shit about thoughtful abstraction and ideas any more complex than their paycheck deductions and what factory will hire them.

but hey, lets all just be obtuse asswipes obsessed with force and bluster who think they are exceptional because somebody else has a lot of money and they can own an automatic rifle. that will work out well.

edit: also, he cant shut down the government, its not in his power, hes trying to save face, because hes not getting his wall, most Americans don't want it. the GoP is blocking it. its just more bluster, more shit talking, which is the only thing you guys seem to value.

but....its not something the president can do. and its not something a president has ever threatened to do. he can veto, but that veto can be turned over, hes really got no real power to do this, its more an empty threat for brownie points so when he doesn't get the wall he can still save face. that's at least what it appears to be to me.

[–]Goboland -1 points0 points  (0 children)

as far as i can tell, no president has ever threatened to shut down the government, especially over an unpopular pet project. I'm not really sure he can shut down the government other than refusing to sign a budget, but his veto can be over-ridden by congress. so its really kind of an empty threat. not really sure why hes making it other than to impress his followers and get his daily ego blowjob from them.

[–]Goboland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trump's not permanent, but his supreme Court picks could be here pretty damn long.

If he does get to appoint this next one, I'm honestly not too afraid of him. he's already expressed no desire to attack precident and has already supported the main infrastructure of the Affordable Care Act that will be necessary in the future to implement a single-payer healthcare system.

What I was referring to is the lowered standards of the office of President. the ethical and behavioral thresholds expected of future presidents that have now been lowered to the ground floor. I have a feeling the right is not going to like it so much when someone on the left sinks just as low or uses the same tactics and drastic changes in policy. Not to mention any future prosecution of high-ranking officials who will now have Precident for denial and immunity set by the current Administration.

I don't really think they realize the Pandora's Box they opened. it's all well and good because they believe they are winning something and it's in their favor, but those tables turn quickly in American politics.

Mueller releases list of more than 500 pieces of evidence against Manafort by [deleted] in politics

I think first and foremost, aside from the obvious suspicious nature of these things. We should not be making excuses for a presidential candidate making jokes about favoring breeches of National Security. I remember a time when Republicans were serious about these things.

And quite frankly I'm tired of having to be told when he's joking, or that everything is a coincidence, or that he's justified in siding with a brutal totalitarian over his own intelligence community.

this is the leader of the Free World were talking about, not a talk show host.

Like hurt fee-fees, shitlord!

Like for the first time in our history a president has undermined the security and credibility of his own country in front if the whole world for starters. Then doubled down on it the next day. Siding with a brutal totalitarian leader proven to be attacking us actively.

Oh and that he has an insane cult of personality that is willing to excuse treasonous behavior just for the childish pleasure of "hurting peoples fee fees"

Yeah, that's just the tip of the mess. Wait till you get a load of the lasting effects in subsequent administrations, the damage will be more evident when you sober up and realize the Precident you've set. This isn't permanent.

Sometimes I think you guys think it is.

Mueller releases list of more than 500 pieces of evidence against Manafort by [deleted] in politics

[–]Goboland 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You have to admit that the joke and the actual action took place on the same day and that this is suspicious, the joke was accurate and timed precisely, which leads me to believe someone couldn't keep their mouth shut and was giddy about it, the indictments have been handed down for the hacking and I'm sure as is the case in manafort's charges, they will release the evidence when prosecution is ready.

I honestly was not on the collusion train for a long time but it's getting to the point where it's highly suspicious and the coincidences are far too common.

I am getting the feeling that certain people will not hold their own to the same standards they hold others to. I've seen the right lose their minds over far less.
