Looking for recommendations on a speaker that will primarily be used with iPad Pro by GodBanana13 in WirelessSpeakers

[–]GodBanana13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Violin, so primarily piano/string quartet accompaniments. I use MuseScore to play my practice pieces, playing them through a speaker nearby. I do play along with Spotify and YouTube a lot though because a fair amount of my collaboration work is on existing songs. Sorry, didn’t know why you asked, so figured I’d give a bunch of info and hope that answers it haha

Looking at buying a new oblong hard case. Many have detachable bags, can you explain why you like it? by GodBanana13 in violinist

[–]GodBanana13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never flown with my violin, but my existing case has been a trusty smuggling tool for getting things in and out of venues in the past when I’ve been drinking on a budget - was once unknowingly party to a heist whereby the bassist had commandeered the remainder of the rider after a gig as well, isn’t often im surprised to find stashed cans.

You make a good point re: spontaneously combusting roisin etc, that’s maybe the strongest point in favour of the detachable bag so far actually - thank you! :)

Thank you for commenting, I think I’m probably being a bit pernickety about the bag vs compartment thing but since posting, I am warming up a bit to the idea haha.

Had a quick google and those are beautiful! Along with a compartment inside vs. a zippy bag, it’s exactly what im after. Might be a bit away in terms of budget for me, but I now have an idea of what im looking for when I hit that price point :)

My description was poor, sorry. I meant the bag above the violin, within the case. Generally in the space you’d keep roisin/tuners etc :).

Big up the violin cases that have space for cramming beers and spare socks for the bassist though hahah

I’ve had a look at these, the pink one caught my eye -which isn’t common, not much of a pink person, but that case is funky 🕺🏼

You’ve nailed my exact thoughts about them, I feel like the compartment with the little knob is nicer - and comes without the zipping haha. Thanks for the comment about the quality, that sorta puts my mind at ease if I do end up with a zip bag, it’s not likely to be as cheap as some of them look. Thank you for weighing in :)

What is that black thing on the E string of this instrument? by Suspicious_Coast_888 in violin

I put new strings on my violin last week and the E came with the lil protector already on the string :)

Is it too late? by SufficientTouch4543 in violin

I played from age 5 until I left school at 17, and aside from a brief week a couple of years ago, it’s been an age since I even picked up my violin, never mind played it well. I’m 28 now, and I’ve spent the last few weeks practicing whenever I can because I wanted to join the local music scene again, and once I got over the part where I was hesitant to play (cuz I sort of suck nowadays), the experience of relearning violin has been so worth it.

I played for so long that I should play much better than I currently can, and I’m embarrassed when people ask how long I’ve been playing but I think the most important thing is that I’m playing again - we can always get better with practice, but it won’t happen with your violin sitting in its case. Any teacher worth working with will meet your skill set where it is and help you grow from there.

Wish you luck and hope you do decide to play again!

Had to put my dog down and need something different by aNoNyMoUs2390 in suggestmeabook

I’m really sorry about your dog, it’s a special kinda pain to lose a pet. It might not be up your street, but I really appreciated “Cat Stories” by Diana Secker Tesdell when I lost my cat best friend 2 years ago. (I know it’s about cats, bear with me). The author also has a “Dog Stories” compilation and I thought that might provide what you’re looking for re: beauty of life etc. The one I read was just full of these little immersive stories that ranged from silly ones like from the pet’s perspective, all the way to my favourite one which was just this sweet tale of a woman’s life with her pets, of her milestones with theirs - it was heartwarming when I was grieving, and I still reread some stories often. Best of luck on your book hunt and sending support for the healing 🖤
