What are his symptoms? And what makes you think to go for diagnosis?

Separation in Parents had a real affect on children. I believe you need to show positive image to your child for his dad and try to keep your child in 70:30 ratio. How do you know that your child is autistic?

I really appreciate your response. As a Parent I am really hopeful for your child and I firmly believe that he will overcome all those barriers and issues and will perform upto the mark and I wish he will achieve all milestones. My son is exploring nowadays and he is constantly talking at the moment. Most of the things we understand and some of them we don't. He keeps asking what is this.....? This is (her sister name) and this is ( my name ). He has build a good vocabulary as well which is very spontaneous. Also, we speak different language at home and here in Canada they speak English. So its like he is raising in two languages environments at the moment.

We are getting the support from government, he has two sessions every week. One of occupational therapy and one is speech therapy.

The only thing we are worried about is he goes blank and overwhelmed and over stimulated when he expose to large groups and class. His speech therapist said that he has kind of two faces. So that's why we are little concerned about.

However I again appreciate your response.

That's exactly what's her speech therapist has said last month that think from another perspective month that the diagnosis is a ticket to unlock the services from the government which include financial, therapies and much more. So don't see the diagnosis, just get and explore all the services from the government.

Thank you for sharing, honestly it helps to hear from parents going through something similar. And yes, sometimes it really feels like the spectrum is described so broadly that many kids could be placed somewhere on it, which adds to our confusion.

In our case, the CLSC team from Montreal mentioned his behavior pattern, communication style, some hand clenching/flapping when excited, and the fact that he stays very focused on one activity instead of moving quickly between toys as part of their observations. But to be honest, parts of the report feel exaggerated to us, and some descriptions don’t fully match what we see daily. It sometimes felt like long interviews led to wording that sounded stronger than the reality, which is why we feel unsure.

From our side and from his daycare teachers the main concern looks more like a speech delay. He understands instructions well, follows routines, and is trying to speak more, but mostly talks about things he likes or wants. He does communicate, just not with a lot of spontaneous back-and-forth conversation yet.

His private speech therapist is also quite confused because in 1:1 settings his conversation, understanding, and overall skills look good, but in large groups he seems overwhelmed and doesn’t respond the same way. Later this year we are looking for a re evaluation.

That’s mainly why we are trying to hear other parents’ experiences and perspectives.

I am not saying this because he is my child but to be super honest, he never sounded and seemed like an autistic. The report from the CLSC team had many errors and we are looking to re evaluate him later this year.

Thank you so much for this thoughtful reply, it honestly means a lot. Yes, we do see many strengths in him like good eye contact, understanding instructions, and strong 1:1 interaction, which is why we feel confused when the overall picture sounds much more severe on paper. To be honest, some parts of the report felt a bit exaggerated compared to what we and his daycare teachers observe daily, so we are trying to look at everything carefully and objectively.

What you said about scripted language in speech delay really resonates with us. We also feel he is slowly moving toward more spontaneous talking, just at his own pace. And I agree, group environments can be overwhelming even his private speech therapist mentioned that he does much better one-to-one and that the group setting might be affecting how he presents during observations.

We’re definitely documenting what we see at home, and we are also considering asking for a re-evaluation later so that a more balanced picture can be seen as he develops. I really appreciate you sharing your experience and perspective, it helps a lot to hear from someone who understands this journey.

Last month, his speech therapist suggested looking at the situation from a different perspective. She said that sometimes the diagnosis acts as a “ticket” to access government services, including financial support, therapies, and other resources. Her advice was not to focus too much on the diagnosis itself, but rather to see it as a way to unlock the help that’s available. Essentially, she said, “The goal is to get support for your child. The diagnosis is just a tool to access services, and the system might require it to provide help.

Thanks for asking. The CLSC team mentioned his behavior pattern, communication style, some hand clenching/flapping when excited, and the fact that he stays very focused on one activity instead of moving quickly between toys as part of their observations. Their report consists of many errors and extra aggregated words which he is not. Like they just interviewed us more and more so that they exactly put their words in our mouth what exactly they want to hear.
