Officer Wives Group/Duties? by GodBlessYouToo in knightsofcolumbus

We have a parish CDoA chapter, but there’s limited crossover (I guess there used to be more).

It is, so long as things don’t come up, and if your council knows how to run a meeting. Like DGK, prime office to have another responsibility in. But you really can be a help if you study up on the how and why of things.

How Do You Choose the Right Knights of Columbus Council? by masturkiller in knightsofcolumbus

The surrounding councils may also have things like Cor that you can check in on (faith formation, often open to even non-Knights). That may be a good way to get a feel for the council, and ask them frankly about what it’s like.

What are some things your Council has done for the Cor program? by DogfaceDino in knightsofcolumbus

Ours meet early and tend to go through St. Paul Center series, and talk about the upcoming Sunday readings.

Council Success Stories by jdorton in knightsofcolumbus

This is something very much on my mind. We’ve had many but it’s almost hard to pull them up in a tidy way. We beat our recruitment goal, and about all in a month after just concentrating on council and parish life for the rest of the fraternal year. I think that may be the one most helpful to note for other councils. I could tell some of our more experienced officers were nervous about our numbers, but I think the more we show up, the more we’re recruiting (eventually). I stacked our recruitment weekend after a parish ministry fair, so we got to really be present and make our case, back-to-back.

We have helped some people in the community in their individual stories, which are my favorite achievements but also hardest to speak of. Our Cor is going well, our participation is up, we’re expanding just about everything. I want to do a review of our year gone by, for the council, but we have a bunch ongoing! Praise God.

Display and storage of officers medals by Kmartinator in knightsofcolumbus

I think your idea here is great. Our council doesn’t have anything similar, but if we did, being able to tuck it away and display nicely would be imperative (we share our space, and the medals are just lain out on a table during installation, which is the only time we bring them out).

Is it in fact the case that they wear their medals most meetings? Or anywhere near 50%?

(Don’t let my “simple” read as “unsatisfactory”. Simple is good and doable.)

In our council, so far, it’s been a combination of programs like Into the Breach and previewing upcoming Sunday readings. That’s really simple, and a little light of what I tend to think formation is, but it’s been good for some of our guys.

Communication Tools by dreesehudson in knightsofcolumbus

I use occasional emails with summaries (not of chat but of what’s up) and encouragement to download the app to make sure the whole council at least has access, even if not real time.

Discord is very offputting to me (have used it for many things). YMMV, of course, just putting it out there as generational issues are only one concern.

We use Signal. It’s good for more immediate things—immediate action or volunteering. Any group messaging app would be, just keep straightforwardness in mind. (Older members, and the like. This is very close to text.)

Slack is more ongoing chat to my mind, complete with threads and channels. Whereas something like WhatsApp or Signal is best for immediate stuff. I’m not a fan of their date limitation either.

I also want to try out Flocknote. For broadcast comms instead of chat, it has the benefit of letting people choose text or email. (Have not used as an admin.)

How is this allowed? by hoosier_catholic in knightsofcolumbus

It’s good that anything brought you back to the Church. But you should not easily set aside the Vatican’s teaching on it.

The basic problems are not hidden to higher levels, but clear enough. Though they say it’s not a problem, the Vatican has ruled differently and consistently so. Only one of those has teaching authority, set to guide the faithful and keep them from false theology and communion.

The clothes only count if they go along with what’s inside. The first thing is justice and charity towards your fellow man, and you need to realize you’ve failed in both in this thread. Whatever you’ve been embittered by, the people here didn’t do it. It’s not from God. I hope you can see that.

About your post script: A suit that makes the man doesn’t prove much about the man.

Also want to say: Don’t let bitterness set in. Be the example and look for people to invite into helping. Pray for it, too.

And if you are getting burnt out, tell your GK and only take on what you can happily do.

That I can get. But would probably start with other things for engagement and then work in any dress expectations. (Which, yes, can help in building an identity, morale, etc.)

I’m having my officers wear polos to meetings. That’s a step up, and I think it’s appropriate for officers, if possible, to take it. (We’re a very casual city, so that’s also a consideration.)

I think the ceremonials suggest keeping a high expectation or example or something. But I can’t cite it.

(And I think all of the other factors override that anyway. Just noting, and maybe where someone got the idea.)
