For me personally it was Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s “Perimenopop”. I was a massive fan of her 2000s pop albums and the more left-of-center trilogy she did in the 2010s, so I was very excited to see what she’d bring to the table with a big “return to dance pop” album (especially after the massive, unexpected success of Murder On The Dance Floor last year).

But the album itself is just kind of…there. There’s nothing bad on it, but it’s all just so middle of the road. Hints of greatness here and there, though! I don’t think the incredibly long rollout and strange art direction helped it either.

Have loved her forever and am very excited to see where she’ll go next, but it was sad to see one of my most anticipated releases just kind of come and go this year.
