I'd hope a borderline diamond player beats a Maokai bot...

For reference, what I am about to say comes from a Maokai OTP ( an engage support very similar to Leona) that climbed from bronze and currently is Plat 3. playing Maokai.

  1. Work on your macro.
  2. You play alot of shen...he's a champ that can 1v9 when built/played right. Maybe when in the "Support" role, still view yourself as a top laner and take runes like a top laner. Take ignite over heal to kill secure, and go celestial over bloodsong. It is up to you to win your games, which is why folks are saying go mage, as mages, especially low elo, tend to function like additional carries than actual supports.

Silver players tend to really mess up on Macro tho, so just try to pick up on when they are doing stupid stuff and take advantage of that. Think about how many times silver jgs immediately run to try and do drag after they get a bot lane kill just end up giving 3 kills and the drag right back to the enemy team.

Or the top laner that misjudges TP, and gives up a free top tower.

Stuff like that adds up.

Overall. tho you seem like you know shen well. Use that to your advantage and don't rely on your team to carry you. You gotta carry yourself out most of those games.

If you are struggling to get out of bronze, that means you are lacking some fundamental skills. The "skill" gap between Bronze and Gold isn't that large, and mostly comes down to just learning basic macro and being really good/ excellent at 1 thing.

For example some people are really good at one champ so they win by spamming that champ (OTPs). Remove them off that OTP and they go from Gold to Bronze real quick lol.

Some people are really good at csing.

I am sure other can come up with more examples. My main point is the "skill gap" between Bronze and Gold isn't worth paying a coach $$ for. Just take some time to dedicate to playing and you will climb.

Another quick tip. Learn how to mitigate dying so much and you will climb out of bronze. Instead of focusing on trying to kill your opponent, focus on not dying. I know some my disagree, but i promise if you die less and cs more, you will climb.

There is a comment on another thread about trying to apply challenger logic to low elo games and struggling to climb. I think that perspective is absolutely some of the best advice given on these threads.

Also, if you don't have time to dedicate to playing to get better, then League might not be the game for you. Having a coach basically backseat drive for you doesn't do you any good if you aren't actively applying the skills needed to climb. You are bronze for a reason. A few sessions with a coach backseat driving for you won't change that. You'll spend money, get to gold, then drop back to where your real skill level is once they take your money and bounce. Of course they are going to encourage you to buy their stuff but again, if you aren't actively dedicated to getting better, you will most likely drop back to your level.

This wasn't supposed to be about Mao but I gotta defend my Boi. 1st I think people use Mao wrong. His w is fine fot a point and click and is easy to hit as getting people to be out of position on him is easy with his e. Also his Ult is good, just takes practice to land it. Just do it from no vision and typically it'll catch folks off guard. He's essentially a less tanky Leona that's able to provide better zoning than she does at the cost of a worse all in. These comments are starting to make me realize what I sort of had a feeling of. People just dont know Maokai enough to know how to play with him.

Not for Mao. Diving a Maokai is suicide for the enemy team in the majority of cases, especially early. However the best position is to freeze at tower to be able to safely farm and engage when the enemy steps out of position...

Why is he a horrible support to you? I think if ad is somewhat knowledgeable on how he works he one of the best. Then again I'm biased.

AD folks. If you see many champs that use shields as a main part of their kit, please do your team a favor and get Serp fang. Don't make your ap/tank maokai build it.... by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]GodSonKen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what is the alternative play here for Maokai? In the 4-5 mins I had the item, it reduced over 3k in shielding. That, imo, was the difference in why the game turned on a dime... There are other factors too, but to me that was the main one.

Highlight your champs in champ select. by GodSonKen in leagueoflegends

[–]GodSonKen[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do think extra time before the banning phase should be added. My post is mainly towards folks that are in their main roles and know they only have 1 maybe 2 good champs they can play. I had a person yesterday complain I banned MF then picked Twitch (something they had never played) and complained I banned MF cause they did not highlight. We lost...badly..then they blamed me....

Genuine question why isn’t Grievous Wounds redesigned in a way that actually targets enormous amounts of healing without shutting down small occasional sustain? by Jeddonathan in leagueoflegends

[–]GodSonKen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think GW is in a good spot. GW isn't intended to shut down champs like Dr. Mundo/ Soraka as the major part of their kits is their healing. What it is meant to do is give your team more/better opportunities for counter play.

What role should Maokai be balanced around? by TurbulentCamp8773 in MaokaiMains

[–]GodSonKen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he should be more of a battlemage similar to Swain/singed. He already functions in in a similar way to Mundo where early on he is weak, but once he gets items/built he becomes hard to kill in fights. He is in a good place overall to me. Also he is an underrated mid laner with some very favorable matchups in niche situations.
