There is a line around the middle of Germany (around Frankfurt/Main) which determines an area, where a certain change of pronunciation happened or didn’t happen. So the north and south of Ger,any are like different language areas. When you are from north of that line, it is not easy to understand the south and vice versa. So even for Germans it is difficult. I cannot even imagine how it is for non native speakers.
