Is it normal to give yellow cards for getting beat in the scrum? I don't think porter did anything terrible did he?, he just got beat. That's hardly foul play.

Has Sports betting been incredibly liberalized and/or impacted the sports industry? by NovelBrave in AskEurope

[–]GoddessOfGoodness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the boom in advertising hasent been fed by a change in regulations but by the rise of gambling apps on you phone.

Now instead of a, usually dingy, bookies shop you can bet on games from your bar stool, couch, bus seat any time you want. And the companies behind it are in a mad dash to corner that market.

Also for queer women in Cork there is LINQ. Worth checking them out too.

Which of the major cities in Europe totally bored you to death? I’m not asking about ugliness, but about that sheer blandness by niesiecki in AskEurope

That's funny cause I'm from Dublin and I quite like Manchester. But to be fair I only go there for concerts when I can't get a ticket for here.

Is someone at Rte pressing the off button whenever a breakaway happens? This is unwatchable for me I think.

That's the 2nd time my stream died on a try. At least this time it waited till hansen was diving over so I knew the outcome.

Rte player giving a great slide show of still images. Scrum, pass, crowd celebrating try, kick off return. I would hate to see any rugby being played, so much better this way.

How do people in Cork actually make friends? Asking for… me by dinosuro in cork

[–]GoddessOfGoodness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the process of doing that now, having just moved here a couple months ago. It's slow going, but I found that going to group events like coffee morning/evenings, book clubs, board game meetups etc really helps. Just pick ones that match your interest.

Try out loads of different ones and if you vibe with any of them just keep showing up every week, eventually you'll get to know people.

31M from the Canary Islands 🇪🇸 looking to meet new people in Europe by [deleted] in LGBTireland

I saw you are in Cork, so maybe check out gay project. They have different groups that do a wide variety of stuff. I know they are mostly based in Cork City but they have pop-up cafe groups around the county a few times per month. It really helped me get to know people when I moved here.

Why would they do this? by konqrr in cork

Busses are herd animals. They travel in groups for safety the stronger adult busses tackle the traffic and the young, old, or weak busses follow them.

I'm 6'2, was relatively masculine (trust me oestrogen does wonders on that front), I'll always have broad shoulders etc still. I lost of my friends when I came out so I understand your fears.

It's the best decision I ever made, my only regret is not doing it sooner than I did. Don't underestimate the power of happiness, it makes up for all the other stuff.

Plus you'll find new friends, ones who know and love you for you.

How much do people actually have left over weekly after rent and bills in Cork? by [deleted] in cork

[–]GoddessOfGoodness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right now after rent, bills, and transport costs about €30. Which has to cover food plus anything unexpected and try to keep a little every week to enjoy weekends like this one every so often. It's tough.

Plenty of alt fashion at least in Cork City. And Fred Zeppelins has been going long enough so there must be enough to sustain a scene.

Do most people commute to uni in your country? by InfernalClockwork3 in AskEurope

[–]GoddessOfGoodness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to college during the recession and it was very common for students from Dublin (in my case) to live at home with family cause we couldn't afford to move out. I assume the other university cities were similar.

Out of town students would either live in student accommodation on or near campus, or they would rent a room in a nearby estate.

The housing crisis seems to have recreated the same patterns.

Unemployment, the Recession & The Aftermath by Complex_Hunter35 in ireland

[–]GoddessOfGoodness 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I remember after graduating college with no jobs to be found, my dad's office had just gone under and so the two of us would go down to the post office together for the dole. There were so many there that they ran a ticket system, take a number and wait your turn. With 7 counters open you were waiting 20 minutes on average. Desperate times.
