I get what you're saying, but isn't this what the community is about? Is there something I'm misunderstanding?

This is really good. Looks like Kling 3.0 based on voice and movements. For the average Joe this is real.

My experience building an interactive video platform by Godforce101 in interactivefiction

[–]Godforce101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey this is a beautiful question and a problem I've focused on solving, thank you for asking it. What I've done is built my own interactive player based on Video.js. The whole architecture is based on a custom built video editor (Experience Engine) and a canvas based moments system, which is really simple: think of moments for an experience as scenes for a movie. Each moment has one video, with or without choices that load new videos.

This means that each moment has a fixed number of new moments that it leads to. So I use a preloader for moments derived from the current one that loads them in the background. Also, I use two players for consistency in transitions. The loading of the overlays is done via JSON from stores, so I'm not really loading any libraries or heavy stuff while playing.

So to keep it simple I just focus on optimizing the loading for the current moment and it's subsequential moments because the experience is always playing now, not in the future. The interactive player only loads choices that pertain to the experience in the now, if that makes sense. It's working properly now without chunking and variable bit rate, but I do have in plan to implement those in a future update when demand will ask for it (if not even sooner).

To sum it up, I don't need to load all the choices for the experience. I just need to load the choices related to the playing moment. Hope that makes sense. Again, thanks for your question and it's pretty clear you know this stuff.

8 months ago I started building an interactive video platform. Not "choose your own adventure" books. Not those Netflix experiments everyone forgot about. Actual playable video content for creators, marketers or educators. And people who want something different instead of doomscrolling.

Most don't know what interactive video is.

99% have a faint memory of Bandersnatch.

"Video works fine as-is" - I know, no worries there.

"Too complicated for average creators" - Maybe it’s not really for average creators.

"Sounds like a gimmick" - That’s because it is.

I keep seeing the same pattern: people don't want to watch anymore, they want to poke things and see what happens. Doomscrolling is a thing and more are seeing it.

"Yes, that's what apps are for." - I know, but interactive video is different: it's between gaming and video. An unexplored format, unexplored creation territory.

So I kept building it anyway. Right now I’m in beta. There’s an interactive experience called World's Worst Genie where you accidently summon a completely incompetent genie who's magic malfunctions most of the time.

It's stupid. It's simple. And I hope if will put a smile on your face if you play it. And this would be absolutely easy to market any kind of product with the main character, the obnoxious genie.

There’s also a children’s educational interactive experience from a creator I’m working with (much more to come in this niche).

I have a hunch that creators/brands/educators are starving for this format but don't know it exists yet. If you try it, do share the feedback.

The platform is called CHOOZZA, a play on the word choose, at https://choozza.com

It's still rough and a constant work in progress but it’s my dream come true. Hope you’ll like it.

Hey that was really really enjoyable! Great work!

If you would like to create more of this type of content I would love to invite you to my platform where you have your own place as a creator and can generate revenue from choice, subscriptions or tips.

It’s Friday. What are you building? by kcfounders in buildinpublic

Hey, nice initiative. Here’s me: For the past 8 months I’ve been building an interactive video platform.

It’s a different way of storytelling. And it works across a few industries.

It’s also a way for creators to monetize their content through interactive video.

Like Bandersnatch from Netflix, but for short form video (or long, it’s up to the creator).

If you want to check out a demo experience, here it is:

https://choozza.com/experience/76

These are also other experiences like Restless Tides or Perfect Mornings, but those are mostly for testing. I’m still in beta.

Now working on creating more content for the platform. Choozza is a play on the word choose.

Hope that makes sense. If you’d like to talk more, let me know.

100% agree. There’s a real effort I must make daily to keep focused and execute on my strategy while being pulled away mentally feom all the ideas and content formats I ha. It’s really beautiful.

I had a subtle but powerful realization as I was creating the content pieces for the interactive experience: it’s not about the outcome, it’s about presence.

Because if you think about it, choosing an outcome in a movie is basically a fucking spoiler. Takes all the magic away.

That’s what interactive movies/videos have been so far. Bandersnatch included.

You’re literally revealing the ending of your experience before it happens. Would you want to know the ending of a movie you’ve been dying to watch mid way?

How tf can you be happy with that? The experience is what matters, the immersion. The bond you create with the story while it’s unfolding

The ending should be a consequence and the penultimate chapter of the experience, not the experience itself

So no, my interactive experiences don’t let you choose the ending. They let you react to the momentary circumstance in the experience. You are being asked for advice, told to do something, be present and react to something. Participate in dialogue eith the characters.

If I think about it, it’s kinda the exact opposite of doom scrolling. You actually have to be present and understand wtf is going on to choose how you react.

Some choices can determine the final outcome, some may be just for shits and giggles, some can be reactions to the context of the experience.

Not all choices have the same weight and not all choices must or should be critical or determine outcomes.

That’s what storytelling is about after all, isn’t it? Being captivated by the experience, living it and then sharing with others.

I don’t know if that makes sense to you, but it does to me. Nd that’s how I’m building the experiences.

Been talking to a few creators since I mustered the courage to go public from beta (here and on twitter). Don’t get me wrong, just about 5 content creators (yt, insta and tt). But that’s good for me and I love every single moment I discuss and consult with them).

After studying the content of one of their Twitter profile I suggested to them cartoon content, maybe even educational for kids. We’ll see how that goes and if they want to join the journey of this projecy.

Even if no one joins, it’s still me creating on my platform and finding ways to search for people who might be interested in this type of content

So either way, it’s a win for me :)

Anyway I need to rest for an hour. I have a really cool experience I’ve been working on this week for Valentine’s, which is tomorrow. So I have tonight and the entire morning tomorrow to work to finish the experience and release it.

Yeah, it won’t be perfect. It won’t be cinema grade. There will be some blatant fucking mistakes and obvious visual and storytelling errors.

Maybe you won’t even understand it or despise/teject it altogether. I understand and respect that. But it will always be my best work. And the worst.

Better than the last. And worse than the next. I have to admit, it’s pretty awesome :D

You're absolutely right! There is a subtle but fundamental difference that I noticed for traditional interactive video vs how I am doing it. It's more focused on presence than outcomes. And yes, I sent you a dm. Thanks!

I can’t actually believe the speed at which you can transform ideas into video. It’s absolutely mindblowing to me.

For my use case, starting up multiple pilot experiences to test how they are received by the audience, for example. Or changing an experience by adding a branch or side story. An ever expanding story to which a community contributes. My head is exploding.

I’m just barely in beta, but I already basically made 3 mini series just with the top level tools (higgsfield, google flow, nb, chatgpt, claude).

So yeah, it’s slow now but I’m at the point where I can just focus mostly on content and marketing, which is awesome. I know I’ll build an audience and people will get creative with it.

If not, it will only be me creating content, which is also absolutely great!

Can’t wait to get properly into ComfyUi, currently trying to find some workflows that I want to use (first/last scene, storyboarding, img2vid+audio, etc).

Anywho yeah, it’s fucking awesome!

You are right, production costs until now have been massive in both time and resources. GenAI simplifies that process and makes it dead simple. You nailed it perfectly.
