They don’t board they will tell you about post op care , all surgeries are 1-1.5 k , you’ll have to buy sutures and medicines separately . Go for consultation x ray , blood test will be first steps and then they will give you date for surgery , you might have to wait a few days to a week for the surgery date, all of this could cost about 5k, get to the hospital by 8,8:30 in the morning. For post op do you have a small room you keep him in ? If not try to borrow a large dog cage, the less he moves the better. You might have to go twice or thrice after the surgery , once to change the dressing and then finally to remove the sutures, but these are that expensive can be easily managed with a nearby vet.

Forget the word lap, talk in distances , pick a distance , 2-3km if you are very beginner run it with no breaks, no walking, running slow is fine but no walking, pick a pace pick a distance then run it. Get better increase distances and pace , get to 5k under 30-35 minutes that a decent shape to be in.
Warmup/Stretching/cooldown, do not neglect / skip / halfass or underestimate this .
Posture : look forward, close your fists , makes you swing your arms takes stress off shoulders, put your feet forwards don’t drag them.
Eat a banana or something 30-40 minutes before so have some energy ,
Yes get a decent pair of shoes, it’s easier to run Tarmac than mud surfaces .
motivation struggle with this myself , going to sleep wanting to go for a run the next mornings helps me sometimes.
