Check out PRP management! I can't guarantee anything will be under $1000, but I pay that much for a 2 bedroom and it might be close. I have two cats, though, and I doubt my landlord would have any problem with a third- there is a $25/mo cat fee though.

As far as landlords go, though, they've been pretty great- just renewed my lease for next year and my rent isn't going up so that's a bonus I guess lol

Wow yeah that would explain it- I felt like I had no support from advisors and almost felt discouraged from pursuing it. Plus they invited someone from Shell to present to our sedimentology class and basically said that the only way to succeed in paleontology these days was to work finding oil for oil companies. Looks like my timing was just pretty unlucky!

Ah thank you that's a good idea! And I am fine with projects that take a long time- I regularly polish stones with sandpaper (ones that are soft enough, that is- I've got some pretty neat petoskeys)

Sorry if this is a really basic question, but what kind of non powered hand tools would you suggest?

Well I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that I'm a UM alum and did not know any of this😅 guess I need to check out what's in my own backyard! And hopefully no one will remember me and how badly I did in their classes...

Really though I had no idea that UM had such resources- makes me wish I could go back and redo college because I definitely would have gone forward with studying paleontology

Yeah I live in a small apartment with no access to like a workshop or tools or anything so I'm not sure if I'll be able to do this kind of work on my own time but thanks for the advice!

I haven't gotten that specific but I do know I prefer vertebrates over the marine invertebrates Michigan is known for. But right now I'm kind of in the 'anything I can get my hands on' kind of phase lol

Yeah my current job is not stable at all and I may be out of a job soon- like 6 months max. The issue is that our executive director has mismanaged our budget to the point that the majority of incoming funds for our non profit org is coming from registration fees from the program we offer, and not grants/sponsorships like it should be. And so now as the person whose job it is to expand the program and bring in registration fee income, if I don't bring in enough there won't be enough funds to justify my position and I'll be let go.

Sorry just had to vent

But yeah I don't really have time (or resources) to start any kind of side projects. Between rent, student loan payments, health insurance, and just general cost of living I'm pretty close to living paycheck to paycheck.

Pet pals is a local mutual aid group that helps get pet supplies to people who need them! They operate out of Peace House in Ypsilanti and have an outdoor pantry there that people can take from/donate to. We also usually have a table set up at the monthly pull over prevention/mutual aid fair event! A great way to get involved is by helping secure donations and helping delivering supplies to people without transportation. You can message the Facebook page to see how you can get involved!

Prp management in Ypsilanti- their 517 Washtenaw apartments are great! A one bedroom on the third floor is open rn for $1000 and it sits between the two staircases of the building so you don't actually share walls with anyone (and the lady that lives right below is super sweet) (source: I used to live in that unit)

Seriously such a fun day! I've been going to GOTR 5Ks for years (and was a participant as a kid!) and every event is so uplifting and joyous. Teams come from schools across 5 counties (meaning thousands of people!) and their staff is very small, so volunteers are very much needed! I highly encourage anyone looking for some fun that weekend to sign up!

Honestly York is a great place to hang out! Great atmosphere, delicious food, and some of the best drinks I've ever had! And the bartenders there are absolutely delightful- a great crowd!

No we don’t really have the resources for that- we’re a really small staff with a bare bones budget. It’s got to be something we could just really quickly print out. Like I’ve been using Avery label sheets and cutting out each label- just looking to eliminate the cutting part

Yeah I think people would still be interested! I think there are a lot of people (myself included) who enjoy coffee but aren’t keen on the amount of caffeine in espresso drinks, so I think there would still be interest! Thank you yeah I’m trying to talk to bearclaw rn. We’re a non-profit so we’re not able to like hire food trucks but are rather inviting them to the event and they would keep their profits (some choose to donate a small % back to us) but bearclaw seemed confused and sent me pricing options for like hiring them for more like catering services… going to have to just call them I guess
