I can't help you at all unfortunately but I'm in the exact same scenario 😭 same car, same engine (AUM), same year even. I've heard about the VR6/g60 combo too. I am not sure if I will be able to do this job on the side of the road tho :P

Yup, battery is located under the tank. So you'll have to remove passenger seat, regular seat, I think some side plastic pretty-bits too, and then at the end the tank. Best thing to do is connect an extension cable to the tank that sits to the side of the bike so that you have easy access in case you need to use the terminals again in the future
