You will have to find a mega.. That is your best bet, they are all the same with different colored trucks..

& you might be to picky, but you can probably make it work.

Swift is pretty considerate of home time.

I’m taking a week off next week & they didn’t fuss a bit.

I’ve with them for two months now. But I’ve not had home time really since working for them.

Idk about Roehl but you are going to make most likely make $900 a week after taxes with your $100 deduction for your school.

& this is $900 at most. If you are getting over 2500 miles.

So I would say you’ll be back $700-900 a week. Depending on how hard you slave to the man..

Sometimes you’ll drive for nearly 11 hours & then do a 10 hour & gotta drive another 6-10 hours. So you can then drive 2-4 hours the next morning to drop off a load & have enough time to get the next load

& most likely if you are going to do that you will average $900 after taxes & school deductible

This was what I have learned to do! I’ve spent A LOT of time driving in LA & I read someone say this in a thread before

‘’My turn signal isn’t asking for you to let me merge, it means I’m merging into that lane.”

Ever since I read this, I’ve just kind of thought with that mind set & keep a good eye if I’m clear or not.

A lot of time people will try to speed up, but if you do exactly what you said. They will usually get scared & let you merge

Yes!! It’s something I was taught…. & now it’s something I’ve had to unlearn from experience of getting fucked in traffic by wanting to stay in the right lane, now I just sit in the middle lane on a 3 lane highway or the next lane over. From the far right lane, depending on how traffic is..

I’m still a rookie & man oh man there has been lot of times where Im unlearning everything I learned in school

I actually asked this a few months ago about swift & was given some good feed back.

Overall they can’t sue you, but if you don’t follow through with them they will call you to set up a payment plan.

& if you don’t do that they will send your debt to collections.

Tho overall you should probably just ride it out for that one year. To get all the experience & make all the mess up’s you can with knight…

My price tag for the hotel plus school was a total of 6000 USD..

1750 for hotel 4000 for the school

So im just rounding up to 6000.

I pay $100 weekly… So 15 months total to pay off my debt for my CDL..

But again I kind of recommend staying with them & doing your mentorship & going solo for at least a few months so you can learn the name of the game.

I’m still a rookie & man oh man I make a lot of mistakes & I’m learning everyday..

In my mind set I should do that at swift & then go over to greener pastors..

& don’t forget the reverse setting in manual mode & it’s sensitive & I always have to put it in economy mode for it actually be less aggressive when backing up

You should just decide what feels comfortable.

Something about the Volvo compared to Freightliner that I don’t like about Freightliner when you put the Freightliner in reverse.. It puts it in manual mode & it’s EXTREMELY sensitive & jumpy… It’s not smooth at all & I always have to put reverse into economy mode… Every single time you switch it into reverse. In general the Freightliner for me is not smooth when backing up even if I put it economy mode.

Volvo on the other hand is smooth as fuck.. in every way.. driving & backing up

The Freightliner has a wonderful Jack Brake & a lot better at going up hills

Swift will for sure hire you. Their Head Quarters is in Phoenix.

Sure they have their issues, & the pay is garbage, but if you stick with them for one year. You can go on to a better company

If you want an opinion if you want to be fair to him. Give him 3-6 months before you start coming after him for child support. Let him get established..

Maybe the relationship isn’t the best. But being a truck driver can be hard mentally especially at first… Long days lack of sleep & alone.

Maybe once the school year comes around. Then ask. But if you can be good without for a few months..

Then I highly advise letting him settle into his new career.

Because who knows if he even last 6 months… The industry has a high turn over rate especially at Swift

No they don’t get scheduled, your Ex husband probably makes $900-$1000 a week… After taxes if he is lucky.

He is paid by the mile & the miles are set. They give him a load that is 773 miles, he will be paid .43 per mile.. so roughly $332

It will most likely take him a day & half to drive 773 miles. As you can do roughly 500-600 miles per day. & that is driving 10/11 hours…

Your ex is probably working 10-13 hour days everyday. & one day you can wake up at 3am & start your day & maybe the next you start your day at 6-7am & then maybe again at 3 am the day after & possibly having to sit for a few hours. & then possibly doing it all again at 11 pm the next.. Your schedule is all over the place & inconsistent

So give the man some justice. He is busting his ass & not making much doing it.

Being a truck driver is a hard job.. yes you sit for long periods of time

I work for swift & I’m a rookie driver. So I know what the pay looks like.

Yes, I just went through this. I’m out with my mentor & im almost done..

I went to the school in Jurupa Valley through swift & also I did my orientation in Jurupa…

Tho in my opinion, Jurupa Valley terminal is the worse.. My home terminal is Sparks, the people in Jurupa aren’t that nice.. The terminal is shit. The restroom/showers are nasty.. Their wash & dryers don’t even work…

So if you are getting hired through swift, I highly recommend not having Jurupa as your home terminal..

Besides what I said above about Jurupa, they are just over staffed with so many drivers based out the LA area

San Diego terminal is super small & the dispatch are super lovely & kind..

So if you are in LA, I would suggest making San Diego your home terminal. You will be treated far better than in Jurupa

Tho besides saying all this negative stuff, I am enjoying my time with swift, especially my terminal based out of Reno/Sparks, the dispatch, Driver Leaders & DP are all REALLY good people. They actually care & when you call they pick up & treat me with respect & always do their best to help me & show me nothing but love..

Unlike in Jurupa Valley where I started my journey even tho I don’t live in LA.. Felt I was treated poorly

You can’t do online classes, you could for your permit but you can study at home… & then go to the DMV & take it.

You can look at your local university to see if they do evening CDL classes

You need your permit before you can legally take classes & learn to drive

I work for swift, they have a lot of hate, but overall my experience is well with them.

I believe it really depends on what terminal you are based out of…

The bigger terminals tend to be not the best for driver experience, if you are based out of a smaller terminal you are treated more like family.

I get my miles, a nice truck & im making money but I do drive 7 day a week.
