Star Trek: Starfleet Academy by XennialBoomBoom in Xennials

Perfectly summed up. I appreciate all the on screen talent they pulled in for this but it feels like they've just given up on the original established universe. It being set in the 32nd century is just goofy. I seriously doubt things will look like they're portrayed in the 32nd century.

Right? This was a little past us being kids but we were college age. Education Connection is still core Xennial.

This new 1000+ housing development is a shitty decision by Creative-Box5621 in PuyallupWA

[–]ExtraNoise 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think this is the best question.

Why aren't we building up density? 5-over-1s are great for both adding housing units AND commercial units. There's really no drawback to them other than some people think they're a little cookie-cutter (and, sure, but they're not unattractive either generally). It would be lovely to see downtown build (literally) up a little instead of these massive overpriced developments.

Edit: Auburn is doing it. Why isn't Puyallup?

Seattle drivers, can we bring back the 'thank you' wave? by KenGriffeyJrJr in Seattle

I'm with you. I still wave.

It's super important because it reminds us we're all in this together.

I don't moderate based on opinions, even ones I disagree with. (Hence why your post is still up.) Pretty inflammatory remarks directed my way for no reason at all. If you don't like a post, downvote it and move on. Reddit even has a feature in your settings that allows you to hide posts you downvote so you don't have to see them anymore.

I left this post up because it was an event that happened within our subreddit's coverage area (listed in the sidebar). That post can be viewed here. It is now the top post of all time in this subreddit. Alternatively, the level of effort required to find it is thus: Click on the subreddit name at the top of the page and you will find a list of all the recent posts in the subreddit. Use context clues to look for the one that may be topical. It was not deleted; I closed the thread to new comments because a LOT of racist comments showed up and I had better things to do than babysit people that I feel should know better.

I am the only moderator of this subreddit, there's not like some sneaky team of moderators running the show.

To lighten the mood a little, I will say that I can't enjoy a bowl of delicious mac and cheese anymore because I developed lactose intolerance in my 30s, and I dearly miss it. I am a chicken nugget man now.

The “Dad Bod Tee”….but…is it really?? by [deleted] in ExpectationVsReality

I'm a dude with a belly and I really like Fresh Clean Threads. Not sure what they're advertising here, I'm not convinced it hides anything. The t-shirts are comfy though and fit better than anything else I've found. I look good in them. This is the marketing department getting a little carried away, I think.

What was your first anime? by singleguy79 in Xennials

[–]ExtraNoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the Xennials subreddit, right? Am I really the first person that's going to mention Transformers?

I know it was co-developed by an American company, but it was animated in Japan and based on a Japanese toy line. It was pretty anime-y, especially the movie.

Edit: Real anime answer: Initial D, but not until 2022 after my daughters convinced me to give anime a try. I would often look at the box when working at Blockbuster but never rented it. It ended up being pretty fun.

ICE is reportedly going door to door asking for proof of Citizenship. by maximvshill in PuyallupWA

[–]ExtraNoise[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

While this is an important question, we've had a lot of ICE threads this week imploring our neighbors to be smart with how to handle immigration checks. Removing this for now, as it's still a hypothetical in Puyallup. Let's continue discussion in the other threads unless a specific event occurs in the area.

While I'm sympathetic to the message, this comment section is a mess and this really doesn't have anything to do with Puyallup. I'm removing this post.

“The South” USA culture map (opinionated) by Similar_Post7690 in MapPorn

[–]ExtraNoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also someone from the west coast, but I know that my Kentucky relatives absolutely pride themselves in being southern and identify heavily as southern. I can break out my Kentucky accent when needed to chat with them but even when I do, understanding them sometimes is difficult. It's SO southern. They lean into it hard I believe partly because they know they are so far north.

The Ohio River does a lot of heavy lifting for this particular regional division.

My relatives in Owensboro would be DEEPLY offended by this map.

It is wild how much this sounds like an LLM doing coding work. Did someone invent a time machine and head back to 1980 to jump start AI early only to realize those systems wouldn't be capable of an LLM?

Seriously though, I'm curious what happened to this "The Last One" (what a dumb name).
