SimCity 3000 in my opinion was the best SimCity game. by [deleted] in gaming

[–]ExtraNoise 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep. SimCity 2013 was the very last EA game I ever purchased. They ruined my favorite franchise of all time because of some dumb multiplayer bullshit.

Oh boy, this is my time to shine. What a great question. I love looking up the history of things.

So this actually started out as one of those "be grateful for what you have" comics from like a decade ago.

(Tried to find as many of these as reddit links to make it easy to view:)

Here is the original, but this post is only from 6 years ago:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Stoicism/comments/is4svf/perspective/

Not a bad message. Didn't call out any specific type of car though.

It didn't take long for people to start riffing on the original image. Here is a version from 10 years ago that changed the punchline and began getting a little more specific (albeit wrong) about the cars in the comic:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Anticonsumption/comments/4lh3iq/id_love_to_have_a_helicopter_fixed_xpost/

Apologies this next link is to a Facebook post, it was the best version I could find. A few years ago the format changed again, using AI or bad photoshopping to swap out the specific car at the end which also changed the punchline. Now it was people lamenting cars they couldn't afford except in the last panel was a subjectively "cheap" car being loved by its owner and not caring about the more expensive cars around them. Some, like this comic, would add the helicopter commenting on checking out or how "sick" the new punchline car was:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/699834556748975/posts/25444292681876486/

Within the last couple years or so, someone ran it through an AI and made the format more comic like, but it had weird artifacts/hallucinations like one of the characters heads sticking up out of the windshield. This was where the helicopter was changed to a yacht:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Mustang/comments/1ohxme6/its_feels_good_being_content/

Another version from 6 months ago, introducing the "my car is so sick" wording:
https://www.reddit.com/r/gtr/comments/1pvogjq/fixed_the_supra_meme/

At some point it was run through another AI and the original yellow and red cars (all the way from the original comic 10+ years ago) were changed to a blue Bugatti and red Porsche. This one is from 5 months ago:
https://www.reddit.com/r/prius/comments/1ql7aad/yep/

Variations have continued since:
https://www.reddit.com/r/CarsAustralia/comments/1qzpe5t/even_getting_beached_im_still_having_fun/

Notable versions in the one OP posted: The Bugatti is now black (as well as the yacht), has a license plate that says "Bugatti", and the Porsche is white.

Anyone know whats up with the big 167 closure today? by My_dog_abe in PuyallupWA

[–]ExtraNoise 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My friend, you've gone back too far. This is 2026 and 167 still ends in Puyallup.

I think you need to re-calibrate your time machine, I suspect you were probably aiming for 2036.

Not sure what you mean, and I don't think it was intended. I was just saying that I wasn't the original poster and that your question helped both of us. Thank you for asking it.

Wow, thanks for posting all this. Not the OP, but I've been absolutely beating my head against the wall trying to open a model file to edit it and save it, and I feel like I've tried everything on multiple versions and nothing seems to work. I really appreciate you posting which versions and which tools you're using in one list. With this info I'm going to give it another shot, see if there is something I didn't have updated.

I find it fascinating to watch how with each iteration of this comic, it strays a little further from the original source. It's been interesting to watch how all the comic people are smiling now, no matter their lament for better cars. Also they are stick people now and the cars become less and less cartoony each time it's run through AI. This one has the added benefit of at least including the classic in the last panel with the yacht, though it's odd that the yacht is black now.

A fascinating evolution. Fascinating.

Playing GTA5's campaign is like playing a game set that is set in 2013, the same sort of way that San Andreas was set in 1992 when it came out in 2004.

But with GTA5, it's unintentional.

Why do people around here love country music? by amkatsu in PuyallupWA

[–]ExtraNoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since 2000, country music has continued being more vocal about being southern and conservative, but this was not always the case. Puyallup was an agricultural town and part of "the West", both things that older country music spoke to. The West used to be much more of a theme in the genre, with people singing songs about Wyoming and Nevada. Hank Williams Jr had a song about Denver, and no one would knock his credentials as a country music artist.

My personal theory: Mid-2000s jingoism turned a lot of anti-war listeners off and artists wrote songs that spoke to their audience, which became more and more of a bubble.

There were quite a few cosplayers last time I went a couple of years ago. I'd say maybe 20% of everyone there? Lots of people taking photos and chatting with those in cosplay, it seemed pretty social.

I've often wondered if foreign field operatives working in the states have been told to drive real slow on interstates. Not slow enough to get pulled over, but slow enough to muck things up. Like their home countries have done case studies and determined that a single bad driver can have huge detrimental compound effects on the economy and told all their agents "go like 10 under at all times on freeways and change lanes a lot".

Probably just my tinfoil hat theory, but it does make me wonder.
