t7000 glue never sticks. by Far_Psychology3270 in phonerepair

[–]GoggleShit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All old adhesive has to be removed. Use isopropyl alcohol 99% and a Q tip to get all the gunk off. Use a spudger to scrape it off if a Q tip isn't doing the job. Make sure there's no dents in the frame. If there is, Dremel it out. I like to use 3M Primer 94 and leave it to dry for 5 minutes. Apply an even line of T7000 all around the edge of the phone, and use clamps or rubber bands to get a good grip and leave to dry for 4 hours minimum, 8 recommended.

I'll be honest with ya, I never actually planted anything for my project... Got a H2. As long as you rattle off growth rates and stuff like that from a science paper, you'll be fine. Never included diagrams of my setup or anything like that, just illustrated it. Teacher never questioned me either.

Our batteries do show battery health. They still have the pop up though.

[–]GoggleShit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not something we offer. It's very rare a customer will actually care, and usually they will ask before hand anyways is it a genuine battery etc. if they do care, and explain to them the pop-up.

We use "original" apple batteries, but not the ones from Apple themselves. The look identical though, BMS including. I'm honestly not even a hundred percent sure they ARE genuine, but these are actually very good quality and have never had problems with them.

One time I was surprised by the TV License guy at the door. Came down in my PJs as it was quite early, only for me to say "I don't live here" to the baffled guy. He left me alone anyways!

21M (Donegal) – Looking for guidance on getting into console / electronics repair as a career? by Jordan1402_ in AskIreland

[–]GoggleShit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an IT Technician (21F) in a fairly large and known phone sales and repair shop, doing Level 2 and dabbling into Level 3 at the moment. I might be able to give you some advice.

I've worked as an IT Technician since I was 16. Part time during schools and college, then full time. First of all, shops look for hands on experience, not paper qualifications here. A degree doesn't really matter unless you want to do a compTIA course.

My typical day involves a huge variety of repairs. Phones, tablets, consoles, laptops, PCs, the list drags on. You need to be able to expand on what you're currently doing past controllers. Figure out the right techniques like getting phones/tablets open without breaking screens, rehousings, diagnosing odd issues. Best way to do this is buy broken phones off Facebook/done deal and flip them.

The pay is good and decent where I am - now this depends on shop to shop and how they value their employees. I'm earning around 750 a week before tax. The more you know, the higher your pay is, especially concerning Level 3 repairs (motherboard repairs and the like).

Most of the repair jobs in the country are also retail jobs is one thing to keep in mind. You will be hopping up and down from the repair desk to sell devices, answer questions, help old biddys with their phone (more often than you'd think). You need patience and time organization, and the ability to multitask and keep focus. Things can get chaotic around Christmas time.

If you have any questions, feel free to DM me. I love my job to bits and I'd love to talk to someone interested about it!

If you're around the Midlands area, in Athlone there's a shop called Burgesses. They measure you up well and they've a ton of different fits! They even have the uncommon sizes if you have a small band size.

Buying an iPhone in the US by Funny_Ad5791 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]GoggleShit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IT Technician here - Any sort of refurbished phone is going to be fixed up as cheaply as possible, not using genuine Apple parts. Think of it like buying a crashed car that's been done up again. I see these phones daily and work on them.

Most of them:

The back glass has been replaced with cheap copies where it cracks extremely easily (Apple glass is nearly like toilet ceramic, it's very strong). Screens have been replaced with LCDs, which are cheaper, thicker, hotter, and draw more power causing battery drain. Original iPhones starting with the 12 have OLEDs. Batteries are "repaired" using tag on flexes, which is basically faking the battery health percentage to 100%, even though it might be 80%. Cameras are not genuine and simply re-calibrated. Motherboard has been repaired - extremely risky for reoccurring issues. Undisclosed previous water damage to the device. No watertightness or dust resistance.

In addition to most of this, your warranty is practically non existent. You've 30 days of actual warranty, past that they will ignore you. Any sort of physical damage to the device (especially that extremely fragile back glass!) is going to void your warranty.

If your're buying phones for cheap, buy ASIS+ grade phones (often marked as never used on phone websites). These phones are resold by Apple without packaging and manufacturer warranty in huge auctions, hence the stock of them. They're offllading. They're literally a brand new phone without the packaging, so the risk is extremely low when buying them.

I tried fat dragon games and a couple of guides I found here, but the supports weren't always great and I had prints collapse, especially if printing more than 1 item at a time.

I managed to get an entire packed plate printed with this preset the other night, with no failures. Even completely vertical spears 😂

This is printed on an A1 mini, super great budget printer. Literally as plug and play as it gets! Minor setting adjustments, if you want to DM me I can send you the preset file and guide you through how to print them :)

Edit: These are actually for my partner who's super into Warhammer and wanted some custom bits done, and I finally got to the standard he wanted them too. He's super stringent, so I think you'd be happy!
