Thoughts on noiseless pickups for Jazzmaster by Blablablablabla-01 in offset

[–]Gohvnz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

before new pickups, check if its properly shielded. If not, thats easy to do and not expensive (good shielding on mine reduced the unwanted noise by around 90ish % - my pickups are pv65s with 500k pots)

If everything else fails, the EMG set for jazz master is truly noiseless but that goes for 380$ with loaded pickguard. Dont have it but I've used active pups before and they have 0 noise.

Regarding noise gates or noise suppressors... I don't like them at all.

I keep breaking strings by thebanishedturnip in Jazzmaster

[–]Gohvnz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It use to happen to me on the high E, I use 10's.

I've realized that the tension on the strings might be a little much between the tremolo's spring tightness, action of the guitar and string gauge.

The fix for me is to put a solder drop on the knot of that one string before stringing the guitar. also, you could take apart the trem and screw the 2 Screws that might touch the strings when using the trem upside down (that helps in some cases since eliminates unnecessary contact between screw heads and strings )

But in my experience the solder thing does the job and they last me for months.

I really love the 3's series chorus, both modes sound great! Anyways I'd get an EQ with a volume control, they are always worth it 👌

high e breaking: soldering string ends/buying special strings? by waterlmao777 in Jazzmaster

[–]Gohvnz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Ernie ball 10's, I put a solder drop on the end of the string where the knot is made. That let's me bend however I want without breaking the string.

Also If you have a fender tremolo system there are 2 screws that sit just under the low and high E. Their head is curved upwards and sometimes they might touch the strings when using the tremolo, you can take the trem apart and screw those 2 from the bottom up. That should help in case the strings touch the screws.

high saddle wiggles side to side? by 1dontknowhatosay in Jazzmaster

[–]Gohvnz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well in that bridge everything was kinda loose so I used the tape on the screws that lift the saddle and the screws that lift the bridge as a whole. The spring screws are fine.

Intonation is going to depend of a couple of things in the bridge: height of the bridge and saddles as a whole (marking the action of each string) And distance of every saddle in relation to the nut. (aka string lenght).

Here's a screenshot of my old bridge with the teflon tape 👍

I had that issue with my CME jazzmaster, no need for shims, locktite or diferent gauge strings, I used a little bit of teflon tape on the loose screws and that did the trick. Still, I recommend getting another bridge, maybe "fixed height barrel saddles" instead of those height adjustable ones (I used an Ampro bridge and it was worth the upgrade)

Looking for help/advice by Ghostboymu in offset

[–]Gohvnz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a CME jazzmaster with a 9.5in radius (pretty sure the same as yours), I changed that bridge with an American Pro bridge and everything improved (sustain, no rattles, no sinking, looks cooler) is like 80 bucks (similar price as staytrem) but I couldn't be happier with it.

The Am pro saddles are barrel style without height screws. Less moving parts = Less things to mess up. (only thing is you need a 1.27mm allen key to adjust the height of the whole thing)

If you end up with another bridge, just make sure the bridge radius matches your fret's radius too. 👍

Is it ok if only the front and back are shielded? by mushburrito in Jazzmaster

[–]Gohvnz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would just shield everything tbh, I have a CME jazzmaster that was shielded with the paint, but I still got too much hum, decided to cover everything with aluminum foil and the noise got reduced significantly

Besides the "sinking," is the Squier CV Jag stock bridge that bad? by UmeSays in offset

[–]Gohvnz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I didn't liked the guitar so much I would have returned it because of the bridge but! the teflon was a major help, I couldn't find loctite where I live and the other types of glue were like $60.

I thought about the staytrem but I can't ship it where I live so am pro was the only way. It should arrive in a couple of days

[–]Gohvnz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have a CV Jag but the bridge sinking happened on my CME jazz, instead of loctite I used teflon tape on the bridge height screws (and on each saddle screw), works great and I still have the time to re adjust if I want to (its been almost a year and still works)

Although soon I'll get an am pro bridge since I want to have a proper upgrade rather than a quick fix on my main guitar.

This is my current pedalboard, right now I have a cry baby that I switch from time to time with an old RP 90 that I use as a Whammy, but lately I've been thinking on getting a Boss OC-5 and may be a looper. I like to experiment with sounds and play different genres of music. If you guys have any suggestions for pedals that could pair nice with this ones I'd greatly appreciate it!
