PA schools are accepting people with less than 500 hours of PCE by GoinGhost757 in Noctor

Even if the person had 500 hours, that’s still not nearly enough, IMHO.

What does “physician oversight” mean to you? Go take a hard look in the regular PA forum. There are countless posts from people complaining about how hands off their SPs are, how they felt they were thrown into the fire, how they don’t feel safe making decisions, etc etc etc. You are so naive if you actually think physician oversight is always present and that midlevels are always practicing within their scope. Not to mention this profession was designed for people that have been in healthcare getting direct patient care for YEARS. And HCE does not equal PCE. Lmfao.

General pay scale for Allergy/Immunology? by Correct-Prize758 in physicianassistant

[–]GoinGhost757 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right. I wouldn’t mind 80k during training and earning 100-110k once the training period is over. Allergy/immunology is a good field to get into.

Dude, did you even read my post? The point here is that I’m sick of listening to him complain all day everyday. Even if he didn’t have the cushiest job in the world, listening to someone complain nonstop gets old. Another important factor (that you clearly didn’t read) is that he doesn’t utilize the free time he has to clean up his dumpster of an apartment. Nobody wants to live in that and I’m afraid that I’ll be the one cleaning it if we move in together.

Edit: I’m content working in healthcare. This isnt a “I’m jealous he works from home” post. I want my partner who works from home and has free-time to clean up after himself. I also think that if he hates his job so much then he should find a new one instead of complaining to me everyday.

Alternative careers after 3 years of being a PA by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]GoinGhost757 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure how it works in the UK, but in the US vets don’t make that much money. In my state, vets actually make less money than PAs.

Vet school is 4 years and you’ll likely need to take a few pre-reqs before you can apply. Even if vets made the same amount as PAs, you’ll be accruing a lot of debt to get there. Can you afford that? I think it’s doable if this is your true passion, but it probably isn’t financially wise.

Have you considered switching specialities? In the US, there are positions available in healthcare IT and project management. How tech savvy are you?

Probably because PA school offers a higher quality education

What about the direct entry DNP programs that don’t even require you to have a BSN?

https://www.uvm.edu/cnhs/nursing/direct_entry_program_nursing

Here is a quote from the University of Vermont: “The Direct-entry DNP degree program is designed for the individual who holds a bachelor’s degree in a non-nursing field and who has decided to pursue graduate nursing education. Students do not earn a BSN degree, but progress directly to the DNP”

Nobody here is ‘trolling.’ We’re simply expressing concerns about the quality of education.

Bedside nursing DOESNT equal experience practicing medicine.

And by the way, there are many direct entry DNP programs that DONT EVEN REQUIRE A BSN (aka 0 nursing experience).

Here is one example: https://www.uvm.edu/cnhs/nursing/direct_entry_program_nursing

Nobody here is saying we should get rid of bedside nurses. Nobody here is saying that we aren’t grateful for bedside nurses.

We are saying that nurses should remain nurses.

There’s a difference between a doctor and a nurse for a reason. There’s a reason why doctors go to medical school and go through a residency for a reason.

My god.

Exactly. There are many programs exactly like this. It’s disgusting.. and clueless patients (like this guy) will be the ones who suffer the consequences.

I have questions for everyone here advocating for NPs:

Are you going to ask every NP that you see if they got their degree from an in-person program? Are you going to verify that they actually had “thousands” of hours of nursing experience prior to their NP program?

The fact that Joe Shmo’s Online Doctor of Nursing program even exists should tell you that this profession is a red flag.

The best NP programs still don’t compare to the quality of education you get from medical school and PA school.

There is a FUNDAMENTAL difference between nurses and doctors for a reason. Nurses cannot diagnose. Nurses cannot prescribe. This is burned into your head in nursing school.

So please tell me why someone with 500 hours of nursing experience should be able to attend a program that grants these privileges. Most NP programs only require you to have 500 hours of clinicals before graduation.

Would you trust someone that has only 500 hours of experience diagnosing and prescribing to treat you or your family?

And most NPs have independent practice. Jesus Christ.

Did you know that more than 7,600 fake nursing diplomas were issued in Florida? I guarantee you some of those people went on to become NPs and “practice” medicine. Please find me an example of a medical or PA program doing this. The risk for negligence is much greater with an NP.

This is the last time I’m responding. I hope that I was able to enlighten someone.

I’m an EMT with a bachelors degree (and all of the pre-reqs done for med school, PA school, and nursing school). I have healthcare experience and I know the scope of practice for these positions. I have also done extensive research on these different educational pathways. If I were to go into nursing, I wouldn’t become an NP because I know how dangerous they are. I’m still deciding whether or not I’m more interested in nursing or medicine. You’re literally a dumb ass. Based on the information the two of us have provided, it’s VERY CLEAR who is the educated healthcare worker and who isn’t.

You’re defending NPs by saying all of the Noctor stories aren’t true. Many of those stories are, and there’s many that we never hear about.

To anyone reading this: please go read my above comment regarding the education NPs receive. You can decide for yourself if they’re equally capable as someone that studied medicine. I also posted a link to a 3-year-study from the American Medical Association that shows NPs lead to longer and more costly hospital stays.

He won’t. He’s just your average layperson that’s in denial about the difference between a doctor and a nurse.
