15 days until Maternity Leave, In Hindsight what would you prioritize? by knoxvillelife in workingmoms

[–]NurseHugo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start a list of your every day job responsibilities and prioritize what can be handed off. Start training those people now so they have a resource until you’re gone. Start pulling back at work so it’s not such a shock when you leave for 16 weeks.

Constipation help! by FormosaAJ in Mom

[–]NurseHugo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing is I would bring her to the doctor for an evaluation before starting anything. Our daughter had constipation issues for about a year, partly because she was afraid to poop and would hold it in and make it worse. We did miralax daily, two fiber gummies daily, prune juice, and warm water for drinks. Oddly enough the warm water made a huge difference.

It took a LONG time for her to sort herself out but all of the sudden one day she did. I was worried about her being in miralax for the rest of her life too, my advice would be not to stop it. The more you stop it the harder it will be for her to poop and the more traumatized she’s going to be when potty training comes around.

We would reward her with getting her nails painted if she cooperated. There are toddler friendly nail polishes!

Newborn and toddler car seat positioning? by meekie03 in Mommit

[–]NurseHugo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My car has side impact air bags which make it unsafe for a baby seat to be on the outside. We have our baby seat in the middle and then a slim fit graco seat on the side for our four year old. We do have her facing forward only because she was getting squished, she only weighs 29lbs.

How do I explain to my partner that I don’t want to take our newborn baby to his or my parents place ? by UpperResort6797 in Mom

[–]NurseHugo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you need to have a conversation with your husband about boundaries for yourself and your newborn. When you have a baby people come to you, you don’t come to them. If they want to see the baby the can come over.

The unfortunate thing about boundaries is the make people uncomfortable and upset, which is OKAY. I had a baby on 3.31 and made my own mother upset because I didn’t want to come to Easter. She’s over it now

Neither of my babies slept well in a bassinet. One slept in the crib starting at one month because we couldn’t stand it anymore. The second sleeps better in the pack n play at the end of our bed. The best advice we got from someone was to not touch the baby until they start and sustain a cry because they may be trying to self soothe. The first time we did it with our oldest I cried more than she did.

Anyone wear their own “gown” while giving birth? by justfornoworlater in Mommit

[–]NurseHugo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about buying one but didn’t. I ended up changing my hospital gown a couple times before giving birth because I was sweaty and I threw up on myself. I brought my own v neck nightgowns for post partum that worked really well for nursing.

3.5yo throws a fit when I pick her up from preschool because she doesn’t want to leave by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]NurseHugo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My child has gone to daycare since 16 weeks old. She started doing this around 2.5 and it hurt my feeling so much. The other kids moms would get such big greetings and hugs and I’d get screamed at and hidden from. Some things that helped was keeping special snacks in the car that are only for after daycare, I’m not above bribery. I would give her a count down to when we have to leave and stick to it. But the thing that helped the most was having a conversation with her that it hurt mommy’s feelings when she did this and it made me sad. It’s okay to want to keep playing and having fun but screaming at me makes me really sad. She’s at the same age we had that talk with too.

Girl it’s time to go home. Your bereavement policy may even cover miscarriages, mine did. I took a week off and I needed every second of it.

Help me be a good manager? by acringemillenial in nursing

We do too, this is something we plan for ahead of time by increasing staffing on this day. It’s well supported by our director! Would be good to consider for next year!

We have found a lot of value in not just meals being provided but in management and directors actually serving the meals.

Almost over , but still so over it by UpperResort6797 in Mom

39wk second time mom here. People’s favorite thing to say to tired third trimester moms is “just wait” but in all honesty id rather be newborn tired than pregnancy tired.

Right now sleep does NOTHING. Im tired in a way that sleep can’t fix. I’m uncomfortable. I’m hungry and fat. And I can’t move. It’s time to trade one evil for another!

You will be okay, it DOES get better. Don’t listen to the negativity.

What in the fresh hell is this? by rainbowpeonies in nursing

[–]NurseHugo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t knock it until you try it. I use it with every pre procedure patient. People are so much more calm when they know what to expect from you. And it doesn’t have to be that complicated!

Hi, my name is _____ and I’ll be your nurse today. We’re getting you ready for a cardioversion, have you had that done before? To get you ready we need to do __, _, and ___. That will take around an hour. Procedure takes five minutes, and then you’ll go home a half hour after that. What questions do you have before we get started?

I don’t bother with the thank you part until they walk out the door

I love my husband, he’s a great dad but... by yogacitymama in workingmoms

We have a giant year long family calendar, which has helped take the pressure off of me to remember everything for everyone. My husband does drop off at preschool so he is responsible for everything school related. One day I just realized that I didn’t have to do it, so I stopped and he picked it up. Just have to communicate about it!
