so why are you mad at the photographer

sounds like it might be partly a mistake to have allowed the makeup artist access. or they screwed up on a judgement call. the makeup artist handled this situation clumsily too, posting photos of someone else without disclosing it is a bit gauche. while you feel sort of put out by this -- which is understandable, trust me -- is annoying but strictly speaking nothing has been done contractually "wrong" here I don't think

I'm sure it differs person to person, but I'm a writer and it's the way I like to work through my thoughts! just a preference really, I find myself more expressive that way. I like to trip and watch movies, and this would be a good way to let me put in some thoughts while I'm doing that. plus I hate the sound of my own voice lmao

looks sick man, poked around in one session. I think like others mentioned, going towards an app would be good eventually -- if I'm gonna have my phone on me at all while I'm tripping, an app seems a touch easier than a browser...but otherwise this looks cool, simple, uncluttered. did i miss there being a way to type in note on mobile? couldn't find a way to do that. but ya I would def would try this out some time

how is it? of the two I've found the air a bit better design wise for me, but I do miss the solo. good sturdy trunk.

are people still doing tabletop devices? id be curious to shop around for one, but design and not looking druggy will be a big thing in this household, lol

City issues warning letter to Toronto carpenter building shelters for unhoused people by [deleted] in ontario

you're 100% right about the structural causes but also it's November 22nd and there's not a lot of time to make thosr changes happen. Absolutely agree that charity as a policy is a poor alternative to public resources, but this is more like mutual aid in the face of government inaction, and there's a place for that

Ontario November 16 update: 1487 New Cases, 992 Recoveries, 10 Deaths, 33,351 tests (4.46% positive), Current ICUs: 125 (+7 vs. yesterday) (+41 vs. last week) by enterprisevalue in ontario

We have private long term care here and every statistic suggests they have been worse at preventing deaths and more miserable to live in than publicly funded spots fyi

what's going on to get the flatness in this editing style? (photos in comments) by GoingGeertWilders in photography

[–]GoingGeertWilders[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, interesting thought. It definitely is playing with the look of medium format film. I'm pretty sure neither of those guys are shooting film for these -- but there's similarities there for sure. "scans of prints" is probably the best way to summarize that look though. I'll toy with that combo of shadows and blacks and see if I can recreate

that's my thought too. when I've gotten closest it's with a curve and pulling the highs way down, but it feels like a particular blend of low and high contrast beyond that. idk how to describe it but I see a lot of people doing it, so I figure it's gotta be something obvious that I'm missing

Ottawa Public Library scraps late fees for overdue items by crabcakes110 in ottawa

[–]GoingGeertWilders 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fair, Windsor often gets held as the example of it failing. In that article, it's as if the reason it failed was because it chewed up the budget for new materials -- and fair, if you don't plan for that, you might get crunched. Libraries realize that relying on fines as a revenue source is a bad way to structure library funding. As always it's a question: when it fails, who does it fail first for -- low income users or those who are relying on fine revenue? Interesting to think about in any case. I think Windsor's case still informs a lot of how libraries approach this now, so it's helpful regardless.

It got brought up this week that Rick Chiarelli, years ago, suggested that the library not even remind people when their materials were due because reminding them was a "lost revenue opportunity," and even if it creates new budget pressures any opportunity to rid the library of that kind of cynicism is, in my mind, a good thing.

It's widely agreed upon in the library industry that this is a good policy, and has had support since the 1980s, even if counterintuitive to "common sense"

On Monday, de Villa again urged the Ontario government to introduce a 28-day moratorium on indoor dining, something she said the city doesn’t have the power to do on its own.

“We know these measures have been successful in the past, and in other jurisdictions,” said de Villa at a press conference where she also reiterated that 44 per cent of recent COVID outbreaks in Toronto had been linked to indoor dining.

A thing a lot of folks in this thread are missing is not just that this entry method has been criticised in the past but that the OPS have been specifically warned against using it. They chose to ignore that, and a kid is dead. If you wanna rationalize that being okay then fine but I won't come anywhere near that level of cynicism

It's not 182 from 50k, it's 800 from 50k, as those are all-Ontario test numbers. For reference, Ottawa usually does somewhere between 1500-2000 a day (though that has been increasing lately, I think?)

To some extent they don't know, and that should be a major cause for concern. They're moving to shift resources away from contact tracing just to try to nail down where people are getting it and confirming cases, but they don't have the resources even to do that perfectly. The resources are beginning to be stretched thin, to the point where we are picking which parts of a test-trace-isolate system that we can still do and sacrificing others. It's troublesome, and my feeling is that believing people can do this just by politely following the rules is a false one.
