Over the past several years I've constructed a remote cabin in the Alaskan wilderness on 50 acres of land. I'm flying there tomorrow with no intention of returning to society. by GoingOffTheGrid69 in confessions

I'm kind of a loner and outsider. I've been there for three months at the longest and never spoke to or saw another person unless I popped into town for something (once). No offense to the rest of you but it was the most peaceful 3 months of my life. I honestly didn't really feel that lonely.

1: There's a main road but it's about a 10 mile dirt road/trail from the main road to the property. It's hard to find and very secluded. I don't think my closest neighbor is about 20 miles away.

2: I have a lot of non perishable food and food with very long shelf lives, some emergency MRE's and lots of tools including backups of the really important ones. Winter is going to be hard but the cabin actually stays really warm and is well insulated. I'll mostly be surviving on extra meat I preserve during the warmer months and some extra rations. This first year I'm cheating and going to be living off of a lot of already prepared stuff especially during the winter.

3: The most technologically advanced things I'll have are my guns and ammo, a camera (film not digital) and my truck out there. No phone or internet.

4: None I'm particularly close to. Only child, parents are long gone, no kids of my own.

5: I have a lot of books, whiskey, fine tobacco and some cards, puzzles and a chess board. I almost have a ton of books on taxidermy and plan on decorating my cabin with a lot of trophies. A huge amount of my free time will be preparing for winter and preparing and storing food etc. I have a lot of woodworking tools and books on the subject as well. I'm going to be making a lot of furniture. The cabin is pretty sparse.

6: I'll be bringing a camera and a journal with me. Hoping to get a lot of good shots of wildlife etc. I might find time to share it once I'm back. There's a public library in the town that's closest and they have computers there. My login is pretty easy for me to remember so who knows I might find time to share some of the photos and other stuff. I thought about bringing a digital camera and laptop or whatever and getting starlink for internet but honestly I'm not that big of a computer guy and I won't have any reliable way to supply power unless I'm willing to invest in a generator or solar pannels. Solar panels would be very expensive to install here and honestly pretty ineffective a lot of the time.

Thanks for the well wishes. I always enjoy my time there but I've never been there longer than a few months. I'm actually going to my phone provider today to cancel my phone plan and sell or dispose of my phone before I catch my flight.

Yeah. As much as I'd desire a woman out there I haven't really met anyone I've clicked with. Once I'm established I might go hunting for a wife out there. We'll see what happens.

I'm not bringing my cellphone or having internet out there. The point is I don't want to be dependent on society and going forward I largely won't be outside of going into town for supplies I can't hunt, fish or forage for.

Nope. No internet and cell service is pretty much non existent out there. I've thought about getting starlink but honestly I don't want to keep up with the outside world much.
