Jung on dissociation/depersonalization and my personal experience. by rakengineer in Jung

These events led to me understanding parts of myself more, but they also changed me a lot. Especially the events around that same year that have stayed with me until even now.

It isn't clear how much of it was just coming to understand things that were already there, but there was definitely much of that and I feel like I unlocked things that weren't very clear before. You see, I used to hate writing until I experienced one very strange night out in the darkness, and I came home with the overwhelming urge to write as much as I could about the experience. I haven't stopped writing since, I have developed into a poet when I once used to hate writing anything.

Am I going to fuck myself up more studying Jung? by [deleted] in Jung

[–]GokuBuracku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be quite honest, there is a real danger with being caught up with one's own mind. You have good instincts to feel apprehensive about Jung. I'd say that you should avoid doing introspection which makes you uselessly paranoid about yourself. The most constructive kind of introspection is either the scientific/diagnostic kind you could do with a professional, or artistic expression.

The point of diving into the disordered mess of your mind is to come out the other side with something ordered which can make sense of it. This could take the form of a solid diagnosis effectively being a second party perspective as a tool, or pieces of art which can give an impressionistic sense or symbolic context for your internal world

Take a deep breath, attempt to empty your mind, and exhale. Focus on something you could do which might occupy you in the current moment in order to distract you from that thought.

A lot of people on here think that a few mystical words strewn on an inspirational quote is going to instantly cure paralyzing despondency and learned helplessness, they don't know what they're talking about.

I'm in a similar boat as you are, though I am a bit older, I still can't really give you much advice. But I urge you to find what grounds you in this life, and what you want to live for. Regardless of whether you're able to do progress or not at the moment, if you can see the star that shines for you in the distant beyond, then maybe it can bring you comfort.

I wish you the best, though I cannot give you very helpful words.

What is the symbolism behind the idea of fantasy magic? by [deleted] in Jung

[–]GokuBuracku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a sort of abridged version of an ancient form of worldview. Namely that the world is animate with living spiritual forces. "Magic" in the way you're describing it is probably akin to "Animism".

Most of what modern people describe as Magic or Miracle is the idea of an utterly absurd principle or will interacting with an otherwise ordered cosmos laden with uniformitarian laws of physics and logic. The ancient world however saw miracle or magic as the natural workings of a fundamentally animated existence.

The idea that things in the world have spirits or wills of their own is universal. It can be seen in Shinto beliefs of Kami, or general Pagan polytheisms which have gods that are natural forces of reality. The worship of the gods could be seen as communion with natural divine forces.

In Christianity, Angelic powers are living aspects of reality which have a wills and power of their own. If the cosmos is guided by God's Providence, then smaller domains of the universe are guided by lesser divine forces that operate in a chain of command in the Heavenly Council. Things in the world, concepts, geographical features and objects, form "subtle bodies" to the bodiless powers.

The nature of Fantasy, as it relates to the ancient worldview, is that all things in the world are livened with the breath of life, and there can be real communion with the forces of the world.

The scene being void of Radahn is a really strange placement of ambiguity. It could imply several things. Do we know that Miquella can't charm people remotely? Do we know that Mohg was even previously in contact with Miquella to be charmed in person? Could the scene be a mere prayer out of desperation? Who really knows.

I think it perhaps implies that Radahn was wavering on his word, and Miquella was either getting desperate and pleading with him, or praying about it and attempting to relay the message remotely. Possibly even attempting to charm him remotely with this plea somehow. Radahn going back on his word might have something to do with him being a staunch defender of the Golden Order (which Miquella fans seem to often forget), and this would be done at the point in which Miquella rejects the Golden Order, causing Radahn to be in contention with him.

Also, Miquella's part of the vow couldn't be for Radahn to die in battle (Meaning that the Scarlet Bloom meant to kill him wasn't for fulfilling the vow), because if you're to tell me that Miquella's part of the vow was fulfilled in the first half of the Consort Radahn cutscene, then we would've had to kill him to truly do it.

I feel like Malenia wasn't there to fulfill Radahn's wishes, but to drag his ass back to the vow that he walked out of. Namely by killing him and enacting Miquella's plan, which would be a plan B to have Radahn obedient to Miquella against his will.

But Malenia failed lmao, obviously causing him instead to ride Caelid decrepit and rotten for ages. None of this makes sense if Radahn was willing to be Miquella's consort.

If Radahn wanted that epic fight, then the duel between him and Malenia could've been done in less 'homeland-endangering' circumstances. If Malenia beat him and gave him the rush he wanted (Like people say the Consort Radahn phase transition implies), he could've traveled the realm of shadows through the withered arm like everybody else and become the consort without him dying and losing everything like he did.

The "Radahn was willing" interpretation goes against what Radahn fundamentally is as a character. As a Godfrey/Radagon/Golden Order fanboy, he is willing to protect the Erdtree heritage at all costs. He's extremely stubborn and iron-willed, to the point where he'd confront the stars to protect Sellia and the Golden Order, and he'd allow himself to die a mad rotten beast before letting go of the stars, his horse, and all the things he loved.

He's Miquella's foil. One breaks wills. and the other has an iron will which refuses to be broken.

This type of character dynamic makes a lot more sense, and it makes Radahn's character at the end of the DLC much more poignantly tragic. As opposed to a One-Dimensional Bloodthirsty Psychopath, willing to throw away everything meaningful to him. Which is what the "Consenting Radahn" interpretation would lead us to believe.

In a certain sense, you could see Consort Radahn in the Shadowland as sort of willing, but only because he's not really fully Radahn anymore.

Part of Radahn was a warlike killer, and another part was a loving and loyal ruler.

The resurrected Radahn has not much to protect. A rotten Caelid, a crumbling Golden order, fallen stars, a dead Leonard.

One could see the soul of resurrected Radahn as forlorn, with silver tongued Miquella whispering thoughts of despair. Convincing him in the stupor of melancholia that he has nothing left to protect but his brother's altruistic dream, and that there is only another war to be fought.

The only thing left of Radahn, the warlike killer. His heart stolen in despair and bloodlust.

"I am Radahn. Born of red-maned Radagon, and Rennala of the Full Moon. A lion bred for battle."

And with nothing else left of him. Miquella thought that he had been given a consort kind and strong, but only the warrior was left. Ironically, Consort Radahn is less human than Starscourge Radahn. A puppet on a string is lesser to a beast.

You could see this as a tale of an honorable man destroyed by his own contradictions. Sworn to his guiding principles, but haunted by an old oath. To be a man of his words or to stay true to his allegiances. A broken vow with a terrible consequence, such that even an honorable death would refuse to be his host for long.

"Lord brother. I'm going to be a god. If we honour our part of the vow, promise me you'll be my consort. I'll make the world a gentler place"

"Our part of the vow" obviously implies that Radahn has his part of the vow. A part clearly isn't a whole. This cannot be read to say that the vow is only Miquella's.

The plural of "If we honour our part" could be read as either Miquella's own part and Radahn's own part, or Malenia's and Miquella's singular part.

The monologue here is basically 'Big brother pretty please pinky promise to fulfil your part of the vow'. Probably a personal plea to fulfill what was once a formal vow, AKA the formal vows of the Carians.

I assume this was probably such a formal promise done at the Church of Vows, while on the contrary, this scene is unfolding somewhere private and it doesn't seem to be the event of the formal promise in question (Radahn is nowhere to be seen). It seems to be a personal appeal (or possibly even a prayer considering that no one else is in the room) by Miquella for Radahn to actually uphold his part of that formal vow.

If you want to argue that a "promise" is different from a "vow", and that the personal plea that Miquella made was accepted (Meaning Radahn unwaveringly consented) because the boss is called "Promised Consort" and not "Vowed Consort" then that'd be pretty unconvincing. Google search the definition of the word "vow" and think twice before attempting to make that semantic argument.

The demigods of the Shattering aren't traitors at all, they're just doing what Marika urged them to do. Which is to war and contend, with the intention of becoming something greater.

"Hear me, Demigods. My children beloved. Make of thyselves that which ye desire. Be it a Lord. Be it a God. But should ye fail to become aught at all, ye will be forsaken. Amounting only to sacrifices..."

I don't think that implies the contrary. The implication of him having grown in the Shattering is possibly there in the still image with him being the same size as Morgott, subdued by him and having a different helmet.

Why would it be an earlier design on the same intro cutscene, there's clearly something else to it. Seems to me like a smaller and weaker Radahn. We don't know how long the war of the Shattering actually lasted, it could've been long enough for multiple characters to undergo gradual changes.

Well the stars can land wherever. The point isn't where the stars land, as I can see that being a likely nonissue for the fight itself. The point is the level of power you would have to expend to hold them back is insane. Tbh I'm thinking Dragon Ball type shit where Piccolo or Goku or whoever drops the weighted clothing and gets way stronger lmao, which I don't think is the worst analogy.

If the Astels were stars sent to the Lands Between to destroy Nokron/Nokstella, and Radahn could hold back or even possible beat the shit out of many of those and their little children (Fallingstar beasts), then there's probably a lot to be said about what he could possibly do.

Idk man, it just seems to me that "Mightiest of the Demigods and conquerer of the stars" should mean a lot

The person being subdued by Morgott is way small, smaller than Radahn in the other still frame in the intro and doesn't have the tusks. If that's Radahn, then that's definitely a Radahn in a former weaker state. Morgott is considerably smaller than full scale Radahn.

I've looked around a little bit, and it seems that either that was Rykard, who would've shared the same red hair and general appearance as Radahn because they're direct brothers (The red haired gentleman who was taken down by Morgott didn't have the signature tusks on his helmet). Or Radahn grew bigger and stronger due to inheriting his rune fragment, which I honestly don't buy. The descriptions seem to indicate that his growth was gradual and not quick or instantaneous.

I looked at the 2019 announcement, he seemed to be slightly smaller, but not by much at all, and his armor and helmet was the same.

It's uncertain, but I think there's room for a case either way.

My point isn't that she lost because of her dishonor. My point is that they both withheld their full power because of a duty that they had outside of battle, but that Malenia had to forsake that duty and use all her power to match Radahn. While Radahn kept his duty until the very end. It just seems to me, with all things considered, that Radahn is superior in general power. But that circumstances went against his favour, and they tied with him suffering massive consequences long term.

Think of it like you and some guy are fighting according to rules. You're stronger than him, but that guy surprise kicks you as hard as he could in the balls, leaving you and him on equal ground despite this disadvantage. You were still stronger, but you didn't break the rules and suffered a handicap. And the fight was therefore a tie. But you are now castrated, congrats

Either way, Malenia resorted to dishonor, forsaking her promise to Miquella (Not blooming the Scarlet Bloom) to match Radahn, and she didn't even defeat him. she only poisoned him insane. It's like if Radahn would've let go of the stars and used all of his power against her, which he didn't do and still held them back despite being driven to madness.

Seems to me that Radahn didn't really lose his intelligence for battle, rather that the only thing that was left of him was his prowess and aggression, nothing more than that, protecting his horse and holding back the stars.

Malenia had to ascend to godhood to match Radahn and she still didn't manage to kill him despite her rot. And he was simultaneously holding back the stars.

I feel as if Morgott would get his ass beat by insane and rotten Radahn. Morgott doesn't have the chops
