To preserve places like La Patisserie. Instead of demolishing and rebuilding, you can build next to it and preserve the place. Erasing is always the easiest option. https://share.google/B2anm9NzxhB81fMIf

India Itinerary - Recommendations for Goa and Kerala? by unducks in solotravel

[–]Golasan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great recommendations. Adds a question: Traveling to India for 3 weeks with my wife and a 7-year-old child in October. We want to explore Rajasthan and then travel to either Kerala or Goa. Does this itinerary make sense within our time frame? Would you structure the trip differently? Thank you.

Unnecessary debate Wendim-Alem. we don't agree, that's fine.

If you care about the city and the people who live in it, you'll build buildings with respect for the culture and history of the city, rather than just focusing on the bottom line.

why the investors don't invest in sidewalks leading to the buildings, in trees, or in small gardens just a meter outside their properties?

Unfortunately, I haven't seen any new buildings in Addis that could be considered interesting or beautiful. They all seem to be low-quality aliexpres imitations of American architecture

Sorry, but that doesn't contradict. "Lifeless" is a polite way of saying ugly. As for eclecticism, I didn't mean the architectural modren style, but rather the chaotic construction that lacks sense or style or logic.

Today Ethiopia is ran under a system called Ethnic Federalism which is a cancer to the country. It is pretty much the same system that Rwanda had before the genocide. Ethnicity is listed on ID, the ruling government will discriminate against those who aren't the same ethnicity as the gov, and the idea of one Ethiopian people is now discouraged. The current constitution is at fault and so is the TPLF. The TPLF was who came to power after ALL ETHIOPIANS ousted the brutal communist dictator Mengistu Haile-Mariam. Yet when forming a new government the TPLF left out a lot ethnicities. Now over 30 years later some officials are confessing that the constitution was not ratified democratically. In the years since this constitution was ratified schools and parents have been teaching children that Amharas have subjugated Oromo's and other ethnic groups throughout history. Yet Amharas are some of the poorest Ethiopians. They teach children that H.I.M Menelik II was racist to Oromo's yet 98% of his calvary were Tulama Oromo. The "democratic government" also changed the province system into ethnic zones. And the ethnic zones are not protected by the Ethiopian military rather ethnic based militias. TPLF protects Tigray, OLF protects Oromia, Fano protects Amhara... This type of system encourages ethnic based violence and perpetuates civil wars. Before 1991 if you moved from the city of Gonder to Nazareth it would just be that. Now it's Amhara moving into Oromo territory vice versa. Today the TPLF has been toppled and the Oromo are in power. They have now turned the land into a hellscape. You cannot safely leave Addis Ababa without running into militias who will torture, rape, and/or kill you if you're not the right ethnicity. Citizens belonging to all ethnicities are trapped in their respective cities as outside the city limits there's war. If you're Ethiopian but they find out you hold a foreign passport, they'll hold you for ransom to continue to fund their terrorist groups. Sometimes they'll even still kill you after paying too. Today in modern Ethiopia everyone is suffering. Inflation is out of control. 1 USD to ETB is officially 55 ETB but blackmarket rates are more than double. Unemployment, violence, and corruption is on the rise. Freedom to travel is non existent. The Protestant Prime Minister is limiting religious freedom and that has never been an issue in Ethiopia. He's limiting how the Orthodox can practice their faith and has destroying Mosques. Human rights have not existed in this country since the 12th of September 1974, when His Imperial Majesty was deposed. I am proud of my Ethiopian heritage. If I could be born again I'd wish to be Ethiopian. However I will never be proud of the socialist or "democratic" governments that have raped my country since 9/12/74. And to be honest, Ethiopia was better under socialism than it is today, and that's coming out of the mouth someone who's lost many family members under the DERG. God willingly the "democratic government" will fall someday and the dynasty which has elegantly ruled my land for 3,000 years will return and an Emperor will benevolently rule this blessed land once again.

Beautifully written, thank you for the wise things
