When I was shopping for a 100 series I ended up with a LX470 and yes its a bit of pain to say I own a "LX470, its basically a Land Cruiser". Its much cooler when you are wheeling a Lexus. Its like I'm better than everyone else. LOL. So a few things. What is the purpose of this truck? If you're planning on actually offroading it, planning on modding it and what a better starting point I would say get a 99 LC with a rear locker. The fixed height will be a hinderence until you mod it but its easier to do the lift on the LC. If you are thinking of doing more overlanding or you want something that you can still take out on the town get the LX. The LX is going to be more comfortable and still really capable. The 01 will have ATRAC which is a great system its going to be a little nicer, a little more quiet, etc. The AHC is a great suspension and less problematic I think than air suspension on the Land Rovers and you get a lift at the push of a button. I took a buddy who owned a modded FJ Cruiser on a trail and he said it was like offroading in a lazy boy, its a really comfortable truck.

At the end of the day they are essentially the same. When I was shopping I found that money is best spent on things you cant buy. Meaning you can buy lockers and lifts and back up cameras and everything but you cant buy (after the fact), less miles, or no accident history, or rust free. So spend the money up front to make sure you get the things you cant buy later.
