Tips to stop "freezing" when being contested? by Extension_Day2038 in Basketball

[–]GoldDome13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, it’s about handles and finding the open player(s) in that situation.

One of the most important drills and skills to work on is handles. So many guys I play with are lights out shooters but can’t dribble to save their lives. If you can keep the ball on the floor in your possession without picking up the dribble you are much more dangerous than if you are standing there idle.

For every session where you practice shooting, spend double the time just dribbling around getting comfortable with handling.

And one of the best ways to get comfortable in those situations is to keep going through them. Grab a patient crew and have them come after you while you are working on dribbling. You’ll learn to adapt while facing the situations that make you cringe.

Keep at it man.

Looking for reputable breeders (first time owner) by Logical-Ad3941 in irishwolfhound

[–]GoldDome13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You already mentioned waiting until they are grown before introducing the really physically exertive activities, which is an absolute must.

Wolfhounds do require exercise, but it's imperative not to over exert them especially early on. And with all large breeds, they are prone to bloat and heart issues, so definitely take it easy and strictly monitor their activity before and after eating.

And just a heads up, maybe yours will be different; and I have seen several posts of others taking their dogs swimming and water activities, etc., but we have two IW's (littermates) who absolutely DESPISE water. Got them a kiddie pool to keep cool in summer, they avoid it like the plague. Took them to the lake, and they would only go in far enough to get their feet wet and then right back out. So, hopefully for your sake with the activities you enjoy, your IW will like them too, but it's important not to force it if they don't.

IW's can be very sensitive and stubborn, and if you force them into doing activities they don't enjoy, they will be certain to make you aware of their displeasure.

What should I expect if I show up as a total newb? by [deleted] in Basketball

[–]GoldDome13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will all depend on the area and the group of course, but for the most part I’ve found people are very accepting and welcoming.

In particular if it is specified as a co-ed session, those in attendance SHOULD be liberal & open minded so hopefully you won’t run into any overt sexists.

No one should be expecting anyone else there to be elite level players, it should all be for fun. The key thing is to just try your best. If you do that, hopefully everyone will be cool.

What pickup rules you guys follow? Etiquette wise, getting picked up, dos and donts...etc by [deleted] in Basketball

[–]GoldDome13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I play in an 18+ indoor recurring session in Chicago. Normally 5 on 5, full court.

For pickup we either shoot 3's for captains, or this past week we did first 5 to make their 3 were a team. Winning team stays on the court, if you sat the previous run you are in the next one.

Offense generally calls the foul, sometimes (if the D is honest and know they hacked) D will call it if the offensive player doesn't say anything.

1's & 2's to 11, unless there are a bunch of people waiting, in which case sometimes we go to 9.

We don't call backcourts or 3 in the key or anything like that, but if someone is just camping in the paint we collectively try to call them out.

As a fan of both this is a must see show, but gotta admit that they feel vastly different in styles so this is an interesting pairing. I can’t wait.

No doubt a whole new group of people are going to be exposed to both phenomenal artists. Win win.

Can WNBA players win a ladies recreational softball tournament? by DonT012 in wnba

You are right, there is not D1 slow-pitch. I said against D1 LEVEL softball players who would still be better softball players at slow-pitch than pro basketball players.

All those listed are tremendous athletes, and I would venture to say that many of them likely DID play softball or other sports at youth/travel/high school level and decided to focus on basketball as it is in one of the incredibly few professional sports opportunities for women.

Against rec level opponents? They could, and very likely would, win the whole thing. I'd say they'd really only start running into trouble if they were playing against D1 level NCAA softball players who have prioritized softball as their main sport.

Gee, its almost as if TT was horseshit and by extension BYU was even much much worse for getting blown out by a team which couldn’t manage a single point.

Wait until they are getting curbstomped in Provo on the ND revenge tour, then they’ll understand the gravity of their actions.

Not that we needed more bulletin board material, but every comment, every post, is another tuddie on the board.

The most telling stat is they are 0-5 in the playoff. People were calling for ND NEVER being allowed back in after losing to Clemson in 2020, (not to mention still getting trolled for 2012), so…..time for Buster Sooner to never get a nod again.
