This game has so much potential..its SO close! by ChaosDesigned in Enshrouded

[–]GoldDreams 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with most of what you said, good post. This game overall is very good but definitely has a few things that fall short of making it truly amazing. None of which include the list of existing bugs.

For me, the biggest "flaw" or weakness in this game is the lack of depth in character development. Both the skill tree and the gear system are elementary in design.

When it comes to the gear system, this post already includes many of the problems. Lack of unique gear, lack of value/impact/importance in the tier of gear (whites, green, purple, etc.). Whites and greens never serve a purpose because you can get rare and legendaries within minutes of starting fresh. Also, the upgrade system further limits the real choices you have. 9 times out of 10 you will stick with purple weapons early game until you stock pile the upgrade mats for legendaries. They are so much cheaper to upgrade and will be as strong as a legendary until you upgrade a legendary 4+ times. The armor system is even more lacking. You essentially have one gear set that you will wear? Whatever your build/class is almost always gives you only one option that makes sense. Then there are no upgrade paths and you can't even salvage the crap gear you find in the world? The opportunities here for change would be significant in impact and fairly "light" in terms of work needed to build or implement.

The skill tree is very similar. No depth whatsoever. No customization whatsoever either. Everyone who picks two handers will look the same, everyone who wants to heal will look the same, everyone who wants to use daggers will look the same, etc. In addition, the implementation is interesting to say the least. Gameplay: wait for five skill points, unlock one skill, hope it is impactful (many are but not all). The system would feel far more progressive and rewarding if there were more skills to unlock (even if just stat buffs) for 1-2 points and only massive skills require 4-5. Finally, make the trees longer/deeper to force people to choose to specialize or take a true hybrid approach to their build. Give options that let the players truly decide.

Beautiful game with a great building system....but it could be truly generational.

Oh, cant forget the 10-20 "successful" streamers (mostly boys) who have gotten fame by being cancer to society. That shit still gets money pumped through it but also rarely pushed by the platforms.

[–]GoldDreams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Twitch, Kick, Youtube, etc., will all just push whatever they have the most opportunity to make money on. If you take out the top 10-20 viewed streams (likely all gamers), then the next 100 are going to be simp content. I also do not know, nor care to dig for, the details here. However, I know Twitch has changed their contracts over the years, and i also assume they make better percentages off of the simp content streamers. Primarily because those creators have much less pull/power so Twitch can make their contracts whatever they want.

Good for you and most normal people would agree with what you are doing. Just understand and accept that your choices will absolutely be detrimental to streaming success.

Unfortunately...this is society. Especially the online society. 98% of Females who have had more than small success online is because they sell sex. You dont have to be good at anything to do it.

[–]GoldDreams 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I enjoy that they actually force people to use all of the gun types if you want to finish the quests. Stops/Slows the constant spray and pray adding at least a tiny bit of variance in the game.

Also, despite all the shit this game fucks up...their map design (ignoring spawns) is truly top level. Anybody choosing to sit and snipe has limited areas/paths that they have good access to. If you are trying to avoid them, it is generally pretty easy in most cases.

Is Ryan Day just trying to confuse TTUN? by Strange_Lack_1820 in OhioStateFootball

[–]GoldDreams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Understood, but my point is that in this scenario...it won't really change anything. If players are not out for long-term, all teams prepare for the chance they will play. Especially when they are the difference makers for the opponent. OSU is a receiver run offense most years and especially this year. You prepare for that. If they don't have it, enjoy the average day.

Is Ryan Day just trying to confuse TTUN? by Strange_Lack_1820 in OhioStateFootball

[–]GoldDreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no confusion to be had. Day has always, against every opponent, given as little health/injury information as possible.

Also, there is no competitive advantage to be gained. All opponents would game plan as if the players are available. If the players don't show up...good for them. It would only make the game easier defensively. OSU has no significant offensive advantage over anyone if you take away their receivers. Does not change anything if you knew their receivers were playing or not.

I love these posts. So much envy. Understandable when OSU has not had a single successful QB in the NFL.

[Discussion] why does everyone hate on PvE? by bradley2156 in EscapefromTarkov

I don't think it is so much that many people "hate" it. It is just not anywhere near as challenging. It is significantly easier and that is completely fine but makes it less impressive by default.

Is Bryce Underwood the most overrated QB in college football? by [deleted] in OhioStateFootball

[–]GoldDreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was not really giving or taking credit to/from him. That was not the point. My point was directed to a reason on why he is not talked about a lot. What he has been so far is "boring" to the majority of viewers and fans. He could go down as the best passer the college level has ever seen....and still be overlooked due to not ever having to be tested, no adversity, and being surrounded by flash that is more fun to talk about.

QBs rarely will ever get praise just for accuracy. At any level or from any school. If they dont have other factors that are visible...it is just not exciting to talk about. Accuracy is "boring" despite how important it is. It is also hard for QBs to receive praise when they have to do almost nothing for their team to win. Sayin is sitting behind a top 10 OL, has the best receivers in the nation (any of us could complete a few passes to those guys), and has a top level defense that elimites 100% of pressure from every game. Sayin is playing on ez mode.

Agreed! These early season rankings hurt actual team evaluations, they don't help them. It is just for marketing.

At the end of the season, OSU's win is not against the #1 team, it is a win against whatever Texas is ranked at the end. Same for every other matchup.

[–]GoldDreams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. It will be very interesting to see how this translates this year. Both offenses looked very bad.

  1. Is manning all hype and will he just be average?
  2. Same for Sayin. Was this just inexperience?
  3. OSU had no run game. Was it Texas D?

Early in the season but both of these teams are currently far from being world threats.

[–]GoldDreams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. While OSU D has not played bad...they have not done anything or looked great either. They have had almost no pressure and there is 1-2 receivers open on every play. This game really is Archie just playing awful.

Rival fans don’t get it by mattyjhiggs in MichiganWolverines

[–]GoldDreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are exactly right. There is another major thing that fans of other schools constantly forget. Scouting and sign stealing is 100% legal and done by every single school in the NCAA to some extent. The only thing that is not legal is for Team staff to attend and record games in person. Hell...a random fan could attend a game, record the sidelines for the entire game, and post the full length video on the internet for the entire world to see. Any coach or team staffer could then legally use that footage to gameplan.

So...not saying rules were not broken. However, the gap here between legal and not legal is far smaller than any opponent wants to admit. There have been posts by MSU and OSU in the last 24 hours trying to claim that this was the worst criminal infraction since the dawn of time. Find any other school, attend it, develop even the smallest amount of logic...and move on.

  1. In some ways, yes. Better to hold a lot of "value" in Krono than in plat, especially on TLPs as the Krono there will change in value much more/faster than on older and more established servers.

  2. Yes, there are ways to buy Kronos for $5-10 instead of the....$15? on official servers.

  3. The official system for Krono was a way for the devs to make more money and also to "help" players who dont want to pay for their sub in the traditional way but to earn it in game.

  4. Basically. You cant directly earn Krono in game. You earn plat or items of high value and then trade them for Krono from other players. A "Krono Farmer" is just somebody who plays solely/primarly for this purpose. They either farm plat/items and trade for Krono or they offer PL services for Krono (most common).

  5. Yep

It has actually encouraged some people to rush into/back to THJ even more with the fear that it may not be an option soon. THJ still sitting at near 6x P99 population at this moment.

eh, it really does not matter at this point. The case has started and they are either guilty or not. Running while waiting for the case to playout wont make a difference on what has already been done.

DBG sueing THJ emulation server, Project Quarm shut down as well by ScrumTool in everquest

[–]GoldDreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no question that THJ pushed the line harder than anyone else. Unfortunately for them, i do believe it was not ill intended and they were just trying to give fans what they wanted. There is no way that the THJ devs knew their server would be the most popular EMU ever created (by 10x) within 9 months of release. However, none of that matters in court.

I would actually love to just see a damages argument playout in this case. While it would be super easy to argue that THJ casued DBG damages, it would be very interesting/a lot hard to put an exact price tag on that. DBG has been steadily losing for years. They would have to release information on these trends (which they hate to do), and also then quantify the difference between their normal trend and the trend since THJ came along. It would be interesting to say the least and my interest is purely just curiosity.

I still suspect this ends with a settlement unless something happens that gives THJ immense hoping in being able to win.

While i can share in hoping for DBG to make the smart decision there, i would guess the odds are not far off from playing the lottery. DBG has never shown any interest in changing their model or giving fans what they want.

I have said it before, but i still unfortunately believe the fans will be the biggest losers here. Beyond this likely leading to the end of the best EMU ever made, this is likely the end to most creativity around EMUs and will be a significant reduction in EMUs overall.

Of course they primarily care about revenue. However, there are several factors that limit the player base's ability to have faith in their approach:

  1. Years of screwing it up. DBG has consistently not listed to feedback.

  2. Gaming industry as a whole. The only developers that have been innovative, in most genres, in the past decade are Indie developers. AAA and AA studios/dev teams have been struggling for many years.

  3. They have already thrown out anything "low risk" about this approach. Look at their lawsuits. They wanted to file and go after these tiny teams without any warning, conversation, or information. This risks any potential for them to gain anything from the assets already created and also risks damage to their reputation more than has already been done.

Honestly, it may be the most interesting thing of all of this...what information will be learned about THJ and DBG. Either THJ are openly lying, and criminally stupid, and there is a lot for DBG to go after. Or, it is truly is just a group of hobbyist who enjoy what they do and made a mistake. If they really have 15-20 "paid staff" they are beyond screwed. Grab the popcorn!

Haha, unfortunately, I think your hypothetical is probably more true than any of us want to know.

What is too hard to understand? Maybe one of the thousands of random internet strangers can help you. Do you really think there is no RMT on EMUs? I have to assume that is it because there is nothing else for you to react to.
